    Hi Everyone. @ 5:19 I say 3 receiving and 4 transmitting. That’s a misspeak. It’s 3 receiving and 1 transmitting as I discuss earlier.

    Could you recommend antenna upgrades for these goggles?

  • @tomjenson9053
    @tomjenson9053 Před rokem +8

    Ian, is there enough length on the internal UFL pigtail, to swap the transmit SMA position from the top, to the front? So the patch antenna can be more conveniently placed for longer range flights.

    • @MadRC
      @MadRC  Před rokem +6

      Yes you could do this. Plenty there. You could Easley move 1 to the front

    Pretty interesting indeed, Ian! Thanks!!! 😃
    I don't know what the advantage would be to work this way... But it's pretty interesting to see the differences!
    Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

    Walsknail is a 2x2 MIMO, don't you think it should have another port that transmits but not power amplified though unlike ANT1?

    Does antenna 1 transmit AND receive? Or just transmit? Thanks...

  • @sten6537
    @sten6537 Před rokem

    Good info! So a patch on the TX ant1 gives more range. But what if you fly behind yourself or outside the patch range. Will your image freeze of drops black. What happens then?
    My guess is a patch on ant1 is only usable if flying long range in front of you.

    • @cinemoriahFPV
      @cinemoriahFPV Před rokem

      Your guess is correct. If you want to bando then use an omni. This has always been the norm even with analog.

    Awesome review! It looks like the thermal compound on the goggles is as bad as the VTX, though I suspect that isn't really an issue for the goggles

      Yea it’s not great.

  • @dieterweik6858
    @dieterweik6858 Před rokem

    You suggested in a previous video that this product felt like a Beta version. A future s/w update could change that constant transmit behavior.
    With the bottom antennas in that configuration, aren't you essentially pointing the antenna null at the drone?

    • @MadRC
      @MadRC  Před rokem

      Yea they are not well placed imo. I would be putting patches on the bottom and omni on the top that’s for sure for longer term use.
      But also take into account many tilt their heads down as they fly.

    Could you use a long RP-SMA Extension Cable on the transmitter port to the antenna to reduce any radiation to your head without affecting the communication? I know it's non-ionizing radiation, just wanting to be cautious.

    • @MadRC
      @MadRC  Před rokem

      Potentially yes. There is always the loss you will get but you may be surprised how little affect it has.

    New to this hobby ...... should i wait and see if DJI is coming out with a better solid product this year ????

    • @testpilotian3188
      @testpilotian3188 Před rokem

      Might be worth waiting a month or so but don’t wait too long cost you’ll get into the same cycle my friend has of always waiting “just in case something better is launched next month”. I bough DJI two years ago and he has spend the last two years waiting to see if something better comes out, then when he finally decided to buy DJI they was out of stock everywhere, then Fatshark announced their thing and he said he would wait for that, then they announced how much and he was like “maybe DJI will launch something cheaper later in the year”, even if Walksnail bought out a 4K system tomorrow, I still wouldn’t change.

      @@testpilotian3188 Thank You for the reply.... to me it seems when DJI introduces a new product it's pretty solid from the get-go , but with the other manufactures it's a race to get the product on the market and work out the bugs as they develop ...Thanks Again !!!!

    • @nitronut1723
      @nitronut1723 Před rokem

      @@pacospete4299 I think the WalkSnail goggle is more Beta product than what we are typically used to in FPV. Not unheard of to have bugs but the Avatar System has more than typical. I'm worried with all these systems running different RF modes that it will be more difficult for folks to get together and fly FPV without the signals crashing into one another. This makes HDZero more attractive in some areas.

  • @sten6537
    @sten6537 Před rokem

    I also have a question regarding the channels. Would you suggest one of the 8 channels to fly in to get the best signal (low noise)

    • @MadRC
      @MadRC  Před rokem

      Generally 1-3 are always better as the antennas and PA tend to be tuned towards the lower end.

    That’s different to DJI that only transmits when it finds a paired Air Unit.
    Another thing we found with DJI is if you unplug the power of your googles the Air/Vista unit they’re paired to also goes into low power mode, we was watching a friend in 700mw mode and he crashed quiet a walk away (about 200 meters) in a fit of ragequit he unplugged his headset before Turing the power down (none of us run auto temp control) and his Air Unit went into Low power mode and effectively stopped transmitting until we were almost stood on top of it, as soon as he plugged his headset bs k in, it went back to full power transmission.

    • @MadRC
      @MadRC  Před rokem +2

      Yea DJI the VTX on signal loss jumps back to channel 8 and transmits on basics output till it receives a connection again. Avatar is opposite and the overall RF behaviour is better. I’ll be doing a more in-depth look at that in the coming weeks.
