In the fast section, the problem is that it's uneven with the drums beat. So there's a problem of where putting the accents, as they should be played on different notes while on the same pattern. You may play it without accents but wouldnt sound good. I cant play it until I figure out where to play the accents
If I'd had this video 15 years ago, it would have been easier and I wouldn't have learned it to play it by ear hahaha.. the solo that made me play the guitar. Thanks Mr Norum!

The solo was super confusing to pick up by ear in the past. Now you can slow the playback in CZcams and figure it out. What tripped me was that it was harmonized and I think overdubbed which made it really cloudy. The rhythm pattern is also a bit odd. I still think he might have sweeped it on the album.
These are not 16ths but groups of five notes (quintuplets). That's what makes it a bit difficult to get down the first time as it's not a very natural rhythm.

Yes amazing night!!!! Very good concert as always but a little desapointed after the show. We were a lot of die hard fans who waited for you after the shows and only John Leven signs autographs and talk with us. You were too tired or what?!? Getting back to guitar terminology, John has kind of given up the shred Fest thing, and instead decided to focus more on his vibrato and bluesy stuff. And I have no complaints for that.
fuckz, it's like a tutorial . It reminds me old times were guiraists were "fighting" about the correct version .gotta say that many nailed it , always thought he did some legatos inside but is all alternate here , the mistery is unfolded.

Back then by just listening it , guitar players where debating , i'm a bassist converted not much ago to play guitar for fun , but at that time i was sure it was a pull-of too ( wrong) . Now , through the "magic" of youtube "half speed" thing , if you look at the RIGHT HAND at the very beginning , you see that what sounds like a "pull of", is actually an "up-stroke" ( 4th note ) . That apart, to unfold it all and play it easily , you have just to think at the timing of it ( really difficult to explain whereas when someone shows to you it gets easy , cause is a sort of "swing"). The first note of the groups ( B for example ) does not fall into "1" the 2th , 3th and 4th time is played , but before the "1 " , in a syncopated manner.Damn , is more difficult to write than to show , but here it shows it so well in front of camera the very first seconds .It shows it all !

I dont sweep nor im good at it. I just listen to John and yes, it seems easier to play like John and alot accurate compared to sweep picking the solo

Yep. For years I thought that it used economy picking, but now it seems clear that John uses alternate picking for this solo
@@dstfno No, they are definitely not evenly spaced quintuplets. It's 16th note picking with a 32nd note pull-off thrown in.
