What would be cooler is making the dots emit as a light source. The horror element is that you can see the ghosts further away but every dot collected would make the maze darker and darker. Turns progressively from a creepy and foreboding horror to a darker jumpscare type; you need the dots to win but they also provide light.
That’s a neat idea
That's brilliant
Genius
another cool thing that could go along with this to make the map less useful would be to have only occasional updates on the ghost locations
@@Peter-898 opposite of genius
honestly a great way to make Clyde noteworthy would have been to give him everyone else's soundfiles chosen randomly
That's genious

@@iPodCharger69420 i'm not a native english speaker, i'm sorry
@@ninjalen1836 It's just a joke man don't worry about it
The weirdest thing I find about this is that turning the classic Pac-Man into a first person horror game is actually a genius idea and if done seriously, it could be an actually horrifying experience.
Writing this I now also realize that something like that already exists in Dark Deception. But if I remember correctly none of the levels use the varied enemy AIs like Pac-Man so that could be fun.
Also three ideas for the current version:
1. As mentioned by someone else in the comments (this isn't my idea, just collecting it here), making Clyde randomly use the sounds of the other ghosts would make him more menacing as he would be scaring the player into thinking there's something actually dangerous around.
2. Whenever the map is opened, it wouldn't actually show the ghosts but instead there would be a "blip" like a soundwave every second or so wherever the closest ghost is. Now the map would only tell the player the location of the closest ghost but not live, only every second or so, nor would it tell the player the direction or color of the ghost.
3. Whenever the player "dies", make the camera quickly but not instantly snap at the ghost, giving a final "jumpscare" if the player was running away or if the player didn't have a chance to see the ghost at all, for example if it came around the corner and the player didn't notice.
For some reason, it makes me think of 'Baldi's Basics'.
what music did the author use at 5:40
@@IamCoalfoot More like dark deception, is very much this but with monkeys
a cool idea for a ghost's sound would be to make them make a sound while they're chasing the player, but the sound stops when they get too close or if they stop chasing the player. This makes it so that the player doesn't know if they are safe or not, and would likely make it scarier
The fitness gram pacer test would legitimately be the most scary sound in a horror game
nah I think the three minutes of furry noises beats it
*The fitness gram pacer test is a multistage aerobic capacity test that progressively gets more difficult as it continues*

I'm in my late 50's and I remember when Pac-Man originally came out. I also remember when Doom first came out. And I was playing both at their release. This has a bit more potential than what you actually realise mate. If you put more work into the graphics, sounds, and increased the fear, whilst taking the comedic element out, you'd have something that would be quite enjoyable to play. It would be very interesting to see what the gameplay would be like if it was developed without the VR, and instead for the desktop. Quake maybe? Good work btw.
Those ghosts make me think of the Cores that were attached to GLaDOS in portal one. Yeah, the one that’s talking about making cake and some other ones that are weird like this one that sounds like it’s a curious child sort of or whatever and I imagine this is what all the cores basically going off and GLaDOS‘s head would feel like.

Dude I would love to see a second vid or even a playable version of this. This is funny-scary and I love it. Like how do these 2 totally different emotions collide, wtf, its great.
Fun Fact: The "ghosts" in Pac Man werent originally intended to be ghosts, however due to some translation errors on the english version of the game people began calling them ghosts. They were originally supposed to be some kind of monster with some kind of cover hiding their true face, similar to the sheet ghosts that kids used to dress up as for Halloween
Also, the Atari version of Pac Man, where the machine wasn't powerful enough to have all ghosts on the same frame, didn't help.
That could be a cool horror mechanic if you think about it.. 🤔
That sounds needlessly complicated
Code Bullet... The only channel that low key complains about the months it took them to make the video only to add animated splash screens in between segments XD
I was super happy when you did your research on Pacman and its behaviour. Most of the remakes I've seen just make the ghost randomly chase you. That sucks.

I point people to your videos when they ask me why software development is stressful and frustrating. You really capture it in a core way that I can't explain in words alone. I can't stop laughing and/or crying when you fall through the wall for the 15th time, after declaring the wall collision working perfectly.
It'd be dope to see an alternative VR mechanic in which movement was controlled with teleports to the dots. The player might strategically leave gaps or try to jump long distances. Could make for some very tense gameplay!
I think not being able to outrun the ghosts makes it a way scarier horror game, just knowing they're slowing gaining on you.
unfortunately since you will likely not make optimal turns they would gain on your and win very easily, you need to at least have the chance of winning.
@@Lorkanthal true, but you could always have the AI compensate by slowing down for turns at the exact same rate as the player, thus taking that part out, while keeping the horror of the ever-gaining monster in it.
It also makes the power dots quite useless. They still can save you from being caged in, yes, but that's about it, you can't gain extra time for eating by eating ghosts.
It's not really a horror when the ending is inevitable. It's when you get your fighting chance ruined by running into one by accident or a small mistake.
@@PaulDixon25 how would you calculate how long the player takes to make turns and apply that to the ghosts? youd be able to cheese it by sitting at an intersection without moving.
Add a sprint meter and let the player use their skill to sprint away when the time is right. Done.
okay but no fucking shit 11:55 actually jumpscared me
Even though it's nowhere close to being done, I'd love to be able to play this as-is, even as a timewaster of sorts. Sadly I don't own a VR so I wouldn't be able to play it anyway.
Here's some ideas that might inspire further development if you ever plan on continuing working on this game: the map should probably let you walk still, but instead of showing the ghosts location, it could show the ghosts last known location (based on proximity/sounds maybe?) or probably just make the location update every 15/30 seconds or so, so you *know* they're approaching (and likely guess if they are hunting/scattering) but you don't know their exact location.

Pac-Man, created by Toru Iwatani and released by Namco in 1980, is an iconic arcade game. Players control Pac-Man, a yellow, circular character with a voracious appetite for dots and fruit while evading colorful ghosts. The game's innovative design introduced maze-based gameplay and power pellets, allowing Pac-Man to temporarily chase and eat ghosts. Its simple yet addictive concept contributed to its immense popularity, becoming a cultural phenomenon in the 1980s. Pac-Man inspired numerous sequels, spin-offs, and merchandise, solidifying its place in gaming history. It remains a beloved classic, with its influence still evident in modern gaming and pop culture.
