Why I need to build my own Crowdfunding site - Part 1

- With Indiegogo shadowbanning people, and still lots of people unwilling to back projects on Kickstarter, it's a good idea to look to other potential avenues for crowdfunding our comic books and graphic novels. I'm looking to Shopify to build out my own site, and plan to document the process for posterity.

Already got my copy ordered, but damn the Aussies get fucked over with the exchanged rate
This seems like a good idea. With your presence on Twitter and CZcams you should do very well. I will definitely be interested in hearing more about this endeavor.
Keep us posted on how Shopify works out. I was under the assumption it was a Facebook based marketplace, so I never bothered with it.
Respect to you man @eric July did it with Isom & indies need to cut ties with corporate
Kudos on the Ambassadorial laurels!
Awesome initiative!! I wish you the best, I'm sure you're going to get this thing working and we0ll be able to back your comic on your own store. I think this is the future of crowdfunding and I'm glad to see people like you, Airith and Mandy take those steps to make that big shift.
It's certainly convenient to back creators all in one place, but I'm more than happy to buy directly "from the source." As for discoverability, I have yet to "discover" and back another campaign on Indiegogo; I find out about campaigns from the various CZcams streams. I don't envy creators dealing with the platform issues. Best of luck to all of you building your businesses and making dreams a reality.
Thanks Nomaddamon!
Nice!
Good luck with this. I think using all options available is the wise option as you are trying to sell your product though I guess it can be quite time consuming building the pages for KS, IGG, etc ...etc. As you build up hopefully in the future you won't need KS + IGG.
Thanks! I'm thinking of this more as a test run. Fingers crossed it all works out!
Maybe there simply needs to be a hub with links to all these new campaign websites
shopify is alreadyy pro censorship but I get how diffiicult it is to more or less start from scratch.
Yeah, there's just no way I'd be able to build this from scratch, or afford to pay someone to do it for me. Here's hoping it all works out.
The monthly cost is definitely something to consider.
a 60 day campaign would be $48 to run. If you made $2400, that's 2% of your profits. If you make $24k though, how you're at less than half a percent for your fees (for the plugin at least).
It makes more sense, the more money you make. However, from what I recall about the plugin is that it doesn't support an InDemand mode (and honestly, you probably don't want to run it more than you have to anyway.
I am, curious, however... if you delete/disable the plugin, does it negatively impact access to behind the scenes information? It would surely break your product page.
Paying ~$300 a year just to leave a closed campaign up would be rough.
The plan at the moment is to roll it into a web store on my new main site, which I think is that Rippa has done? But yeah, I was thinking a standard 2 month thing.
👍
Will Shopify allow campaigns for not yet existing products?
They allow the crowdfund app, so I'd imagine so. I will have an existing book, so it won't effect this campaign, but it's definitely something I'll be looking into if I plan to carry this forward onto future campaigns.
shopify has "crowdfunding addons" I dont think they are free though
They're between $19-$24 a month.
