      Y’all did a great job. It takes real talent to pull this off. Anyone can do it w power tools and modern building techniques but what you guys did is truly great.
      It must take lots of practice to get it right.
      I can build but w all the modern tools and take the easy way but I’ll never be able to make it look as good as this.

    I'm so glad I was able to attend this workshop! You first inspired me with your videos. Now having met you and being able to see all the beauty you have created with these traditional skills, you have given me greater hope that I too can achieve my dream of building a homestead. I'm already working on the designs for the buildings once I am finally able to purchase some land!
    Keep up the good work Mr. Chickadee. You are inspiring and changing lives!

    Man.. look at the work on those sill plates.
    That is awesome Mr Chickadee.
    To transfer the exact shape of the foundation wall onto the timber sill plate is world class carpentry at its finest.

    The sense of satisfaction you must have, to live and play in beautiful buildings you have created with your own hands. By saying play I am in no way disparaging the hard work sweat and blood you have no doubt poured into your creations, I am just affirming that if you love what you do you'll never work a day in your life. Your bravery is appreciated as is your willingness to share with us the process and results. THANK YOU!

    Really great video. In the early 70's I was in Iowa in the Mississippi River Valley and many of the old barns needed repair. They barns were originally put together with pegs and wedges. I taught myself how to repair them and bring them back to the splendor of the time when they were constructed. The only nails in those barns were little square shingle nails in the roof. I loved doing it and we need to preserve those old barns.

    • @valhallaproject9560
      @valhallaproject9560 Před 3 lety

      Indeed. I had a 150 year-old barn in my place in the Catskills years ago. Without nails. Far too many of the local landowners - both those raised there and new arrivals - would let their barns and outbuildings deteriorate and collapse. It was a heartbreaking sight to watch and when we offered to help them repair them we were turned away, often and inexplicably with anger. How many buildings, many with rare woods like American chestnut, were lost is incalculable. Sad.

      Whats interesting is that jagged mating surface confers even better rigidity to the structure [as compared to a perfect horizontal]
      That structure is going no where since its locked in by friction.
      In fact in my dream house I'll scan the rock surfaces and 3D print* the mating sill wood

    Beautiful Mr. Chickadee! And equally beautiful is getting together and working with friends. The Amish here in Lancaster Co. Pa. Still build barns this way. Perhaps not as lovely as your work but I've seen the raise a barn frame in a day and have it roofed and sided the next. As a cabinetmaker I've watched your videos over the years with the sound of the planes, saws and axes and it is truly all the sound needed. All those sounds are like music. Bravo on your efforts to strive for excellence! And there is nothing like working with old tools and the energies they contain. Thank You Kindly for it all! Love, Light and Peace to You and your Family and Friends! DaveyJO in Pa.
