So for the entirety of Invincible Season 1, Eve already knew that her “family” is not her actual family

Yeah I love seeing these side or past things that really add context to a greater story in fictional works. Rewatching season 1 with this will really reinforce a lot of what we see from Eve. It also makes me feel even worse for Eve seeing how Rex treated their relationship. She went through so much shit and had a lot of trouble building genuine attachments with people, especially ones that knew about her powers. Being in a romantic relationship with someone that didn't mind her powers at all was probably a big deal for her and made her feel a lot better, but he took her for granted and treated her like trash. I already thought Rex was an asshole (albeit funny sometimes I must admit), this just makes me dislike him even more. Though knowing this makes me wish the writers had foreshadowed it a bit more. We didn't really see signs that she had this troubled of a past at all in season 1, which makes me wonder if they wrote it after writing season 1 (and I don't think it was even in the comics), so it does feel a tad bit out-of-nowhere for her to have one of the cruelest backstories in the series thus far. All we could gander was that she had parents that didn't accept her powers. Like I wouldn't expect her to just start having mental breakdowns out of nowhere because of it, but just, like, SOMETHING, you know.

I haven’t seen the entire comic series, but I would like to believe that Rex wasn’t all that bad in the past.
Either way, I do know that he does get better later on after he learn a lesson when being the victim.

8:48 - Green Ghost was originally a guy in the comics, so it looks like between this flashback and the present he gave his powers to a girl, since from what i remembered she transformed by swallowing a green orb,
this is from the wiki, it's just how she transformed:
Powers Via Crystal: Upon ingesting a small, jade colored amulet of unknown origin, the young woman who would become the Green Ghost would undergo a transformation altering her body's physical appearance, seemingly generating a green aura emanating from within her. The Green Ghost would revert to her human form after regurgitating the amulet she had ingested to trigger the initial transformation.
that aside, choreography in fights and fluidity in animation in general really went up this episode compared to last season, hopefully it keeps up on the actual season, this special was really good
I think they dropped this on purpose, to show us that the animation has been upgraded.

For a sec I forgot about that pill thing she took to transform and imagened she just randomly was almost hit by an apple-sized green orb from space and immediately decided to swallow the whole thing...
The animation was shockingly good. Like, ngl, the combat in season 1 was surprisingly one of the weaker points, for me, even though it's largely an action show, with superheroes and all that. It absolutely wasn't bad by any stretch of the word, but it was really carried by the choreography and the way characters used their powers, the actual animation aspect of it was just kind of decent. If it weren't for the clever writing of the fight scenes, the fights would actually be kind of mediocre in my opinion. But the fight on the freeway with Eve and her siblings was genuinely phenomenal and got me HYPED for the next seasons, clearly they have had a major upgrade, probably due to budget. I mean, when you think about it, they didn't know if Invincible would be a major success, so they probably held back on the budget, but then season 1 came out and everyone fucking loved it to obsession, so of course, it would get a major boost for the future seasons. And I mean, it's AMAZON we're talking about, literally one of the richest companies in the entire world, so budget isn't a major problem.
But yeah, even the fight at the start with the Guardians seemed better than most of the fights in season 1, but even that didn't compare to the fight on the freeway, that was just incredible. From the animation to the choreography, which I must say, even that was improved.
Makes sense, the guardians are based off of the Justice League and multiple members are legacy heroes (Flash, Green Lantern, Batman sometimes)
Eve might just be the most badass character in the show. Thats what this special is showing me
Restricting it to just the show alone, I'd say yes to that. However, no spoilers, I think a character later on might take that spot from her, and it is a character we've seen a little bit of. Depends on how the show goes about them in comparison to the comics.

I think the reason Eve’s so immediately confident is because she’d already intently studied and memorized atomic and molecular structures for her whole childhood before she unlocked her philosopher’s stone. She basically already knows where all the subatomic particles need to end up to look like the thing she wants. And it’s not like there’s a shortage of protons, neutrons, or electrons.
Absolutely loved this special. Atom eve was one of my favorite characters in the first season but I felt she never really got enough time to shine. So it was really cool to see her origin.
So Eve's dad has always been a jerk, it wasn't just when she got her powers. I mean at least her mom tried.

1:00:15 I think he was about to kill them both so he could try again with another human. He only stopped because of the sliver of empathy inside him that had grown from his relationship to them. Great character.
Actually it’s more because he was content with his life on earth. He did love his family and most likely would’ve delayed Earth’s conquest until they passed. But with Mark getting his powers would mean for Nolan to reveal the truth
The struggle between his fascist conditioning and his mission vs what is probably the only happiness and fulfillment he's had in his life. And at that point, he didn't just retreat into fascist conditioning, although it was tempting.
@@thewandering01 Exactly. He's scared of himself, but he doesn't want to worry about these things. So much of him wants to forget about it all and prioritize his mission so he doesn't stop himself from his original objective before it's "too late", but he can't bring himself to do it because his life with Debbie and Mark has truly changed him into someone with compassion, understanding, and love. Sadly his mission mostly overrides that when he learns of Mark's powers, leading to his rampage in episode 8, but once again, the empathy that he learned from living on Earth was reignited for a brief moment by Mark's words, which stopped him, just barely, from doing something he would never stop regretting.
Its like omni man was ready to just off his family right there, and just go "make another kid". But his new inner human side kicked in and he was utterly ashamed of what he was considering to do.
This show is just goated. They even gave us that little bit of a scene and it had so much to unpack.
Eve always had this kind of potential. Her ability to heal human atoms will make even more plot sense to you later. For Omni-Man had Mark never shown any abilities he could have just waited and lived out a normal life span with Mark and Debbie. for him it would have just been like a long weekend . When Mark did get powers he had to move on his plans before Mark grew and decided to side against him with the Guardians.
This honestly blew me away. This story was great, the fight scenes were great, the voice acting was great as usual, everything was just great

Wonder if they'll do more special episodes for certain other characters. There are some, even in the comics, who could have had a more developed and in-depth backstory and I'd like to see more of. That said, overall liked this special, but I'm wondering why they made some of the changes, like Eve adopted parents not knowing that she had powers from the start (in the comics, they know immediatly, hence why they're afraid of Eve learning about it and putting herself in danger).

X to doubt for Rex (probably gonna see his backstory in an episode, but just not on this level because he's simply not on the same level of importance as Eve), probably for Monster Girl, and I want to say definitely for Cecil because I love him but idk. All these characters just aren't as significant, and animation is expensive.
I loved this so much. Eve showed some absolute mastery over what she knwe about her powers. She managed to keep the citizens safe and the destruction to a minumun WHILE defeating the enemies AND dealing with the emotional pain. What an absolute badass.

Same bro. Here 13 days late because I somewhat lost interest in Invincible (though not entirely) because it's been so long that I forgot that Invincible is amazing. This really reignited my interest in the series and I'm hyped for season 2. It adds so much depth to Eve's character as well that it will REALLY pay off seeing her again.

Understandable. I've never been a HUGE fan of superheroes, especially not the "big league" ones that are fighting universe destroying threats on a practically weekly basis. My favorite superhero was always Spiderman, I love the Spiderverse movies too.

I think it was neither. It's up to interpretation really but I interpreted it as him being enraged at how ridiculous his son is. Omni-Man is a warrior whose boots have waded through the blood of thousands, a terrifying conqueror of worlds that was sent there to subjugate the planet under the rule of Viltrum, so to see his powerless son covering himself in duct-tape and pretending to be a "superhero" probably pissed him off. I don't think it had much to do with Debbie tbh.
the Invincible comics are really good idk if youve read them or if you plan to watch the show first but i definitely recommend them at some point!
Atom Eve is awesome and this special was too.
Kinda unrelated, but Amber is a good well written character with what I would call a writing oversight in episode 7 that contradicts with her emotional breakup in episode six in a way that makes her look terrible, no matter how you try to interpret it while the narrative implies she's done nothing wrong.
I firmly believe the issue can largely be resolved by changing two words during her reaction, after Mark reveals his identity.
Original line: "I *already know* that you're a super hero."
Change it to "I *don't care* that you're a super hero."
I was not ready for Shark to get around to this so soon!

I'm interested in blind commentary but I'm not desperate enough to pay for a grown adult to watch cartoons (no matter how good it's written) not after witnessing a poorly edited version of it on CZcams. Kickassreaction and Flaming Shark are the few that don't make their reaction exclusive to patreon (which I sort of respect)

@@kylesmyle4233 By ''poorly edited'' I meant it in the context of how they edit certain scenes that are not relevant and could easily be cut, the rest that stays unedited are boring commentary (which shouldn't be). Is for which reaction video I can't say exactly but they tend to be group reactions (consisting of 3 or more people talking over each other) or stream reactions where the reactor is constantly distracted by live comments or donations while they talk over the video. This type of reaction CZcamsrs not only constantly pause it every d*mn second but also expect Patreon money shows that they leech off of. At least flaming shark and Kickassreaction have archive websites where their audience can watch their videos for free. What truly confuses me is how Flaming Shark can post full unedited shows on CZcams without getting strikes.

I actually agree that Amber is underrated and overhated. She just wanted a relationship but all she got was a guy who refused to trust her, ghosted her constantly, and lied to her face every single day.
Eve even called out Mark for leading Amber on for half a year.

Expecting full and total openness from a partner who’s not comfortable sharing touchy personal information yet is an entitled toxic mindset and shows that you aren’t a person deserving of that trust. And if the relationship isn’t moving fast enough for you, you have every right to leave or talk about it. Plus she straight up lied to him in saying “you left us” since she already knew he was invincible. If she knew he was invincible for so long why did she not confront him about it? The mature thing to do would be to talk it out, but no she let her feelings bottle instead of communicating. I’m not saying this is bad characterization, but the show trying to pretend like Amber did nothing wrong is insane and harmful.
@@mouseonthestreets8675 Mark literally said he wanted to be college sweethearts with Amber. That's as close as a proposal a teenager can make. Especially with the context of them building their lives together. He basically made her think that he was finally going to be serious about their relationship and treat her as an equal. Amber had been putting aside her own time and energy to invest in the relationship whereas Mark was treating the entire thing as just secondary or only part of his life. Amber wanted a real relationship, realized that it wasn't perfect, and then waited patiently for months for Mark to commit. Then he finally says a bunch of stuff that makes it seem like he trusts her only to immediately lie to her again.
Again, Eve literally told Mark that if he was serious with Amber, he should have told her sooner, because otherwise he was just stringing her along in a toxic relationship.
Amber spent so much time and energy on Mark, but he didn't do the same. Yes, he is a hero, so time-constraints are there, but he still could have done SOMETHING to make the relationship work other than just lying all the time. He basically never talked to her about anything deep whereas she did. The most he ever did was talk about hobbies like comics.
Being in a relationship where you have to do all of the work is exhausting, but at the same time, you want all of that investment to work out. That's the only reason I can see why Amber even bothered staying with Mark. That and Eve claiming something similar to 'he's one of the good ones'.
I DO have issue with the mom, while the dad IS infinitely worse, the mom is still awful. Yeah she eventually started to be better but it was too late.
Eve ditching them was the right choice. They don’t deserve her, and thankfully she gets a happy ending in the comics.

I get that she can rearrange atoms and from her comment of being able to move electrons she can probably just control all elementary particles in general like quarks and shit, but WHAT THE FUCK IS THE PINK SHIT?? is it supposed to be some weird photon substance? or some non existent material she creates from quarks or something? It can be anything JUST EXPLAIN IT AAAAAHHH
I would probably assume that it’s the way her subconscious manifests her abilities bc it’s her favorite color, so when she uses the light energy to make her fly and other stuff it comes out pink. But that’s my assumption.
