Empowering Song: Dr. Emilie Amrein Rethinks Music Education and Performance

Dr. Emilie Amrein is breaking down traditional barriers in music education and performance. They emphasize a holistic approach to teaching, focusing on the body, the relationship between self and other, storytelling as a way of “wording the world” and freedom-dreaming about liberation and joy in their Empowering Song course. This innovative approach to teaching was demonstrated in a sci-fi choral opera called "After the Flood," created with USD Choral scholars. Amrein's work goes beyond the classroom, as they hosted an international colloquium on arts and mobility this summer at the Château de la Bretesche in France, supported by a Borchard Foundation Grant.
