  • There is a very fat bass in this video but the real highlight is the NEW KAYAK!!! My brand new Old Town Sportsman PDL 106 is the big surprise!!!!
This is sort of a review but it's also just a video of me using and fishing with it. I used it for three separate days and it was a blast! If you are interested in this kayak, or in kayak fishing in general then check out my experience learning to use it.
Having pedals is a complete game-changer. I went from hating kayak fishing to loving it just based on the pedals alone. This kayak is so stable I barely have to think about standing up or grabbing stuff out of the milk crate behind me. It is WAY MORE STABLE than my Wilderness Systems Ride 115.
I am not sponsored, I bought this kayak with my own cash and it was well worth it!
This video is appropriate for all ages.

This kayak opens up a new chapter in my fishing life, hence the new header graphic (I'll make a better one). I will be using the yak all the time. I should be hitting the Delta in a few days, depending on wind and air quality from the fires.
I may hit Calero soon as well, what the heck.

Received my 106 PDL 2 weeks ago. Tons of fun and a great investment. Enjoy!

I love that kayak. Soon down the road, I'm going buy that kayak, but got work few overtime for it. Awesome catch

You’re the first one that I have heard say that it’s hard to peddle. I’m 65 and thinking of getting one. Thanks for sharing.

It's probably no harder than any other pedal drive. This is the only one I've ever used. This yak isn't made for speed LOL. If you are local I'm thinking of selling mine. I've only used it 6 times it's practically brand new. Great yak but circumstances have changed and I can't fish much now.

It's a nice ride. Will be leaving it at Lake Tulloch in a week and using it there a lot.

Finally upgraded to a pedal kayak and got the same exact one from Kayak City. It’s nice stable yak to have.

That's a sweet kayak. Mine is nearly identical (I have the 120). I love my Old Town!

Am interested in the type of glasses that you have?I'm looking for good glasses to see the fish in the water?

Cheap $20 glasses polarized from Amazon. No specific brand. They are durable and scratch resistant. Fine for the price. Won't cry if I lose them. My last pair never broke.

After owning it for a year, are you still happy with it? I’m trying to decide between the 106/120.

    • @outsidewithmike
      @outsidewithmike  Před rokem

It is an awesome kayak and yes I highly recommend it. The 120 will get you slightly more speed. I never regretted choosing the 106. It's lighter and a little easier to put on my roof rack. I saw no advantage in a longer one, for me.
I actually sold both of my kayaks because I can't really fish much these days. If I ever buy another I would buy the same one again, unless something crazy comes along. Best value and a top quality yak and company (and warranty).

@@outsidewithmike Dang! I see that you're able to still be outside and active, experiencing the beauty of nature, so I'm glad for you in that sense. I hope that you're able to fish again, if it's something you're wanting to do. Thank you for the info - there's a lot more leaning towards the 106... and it's 300 bucks cheaper! haha... I could save that money and spend it on other mods/fish finder.

Man that is a nice106 PDL that you have. I am looking to upgrade to a PDL 106 or the 120 kayak myself. I had shoulder surgery beginning of the year so the paddle is a little difficult for me now. I do have a question Mike? I have big very very extremely wide feet sz15 6 EEEEEE wide with very chubby fat wide toe that are equally straight across making my foot very very wide at 6 1/2 inches wide from my big toe to my lil toe. Are the pedals wide enough & Is it comfortable to kayak barefooted 👣 styles cuz I have to kayak Barefoot 👣 style because of my extremely wide feet i have. Oh one more question? In the video at 16:22 it look like you have big feet? Just curious what size are your foot? Did you have any problems with your feet bottoming out while you pedal because of them being big? I have heard it was a problem for people with big feet bottoming out while pedaling. Just trying to find out if this is true this would be a problem for me being a sz15. Great video thank you for sharing.

I only have 9.5 feet. Pretty sure the width is fine for you. I could measure it tomorrow. Lookin at photos now and it looks plenty wide.
Bottoming out well you could pedal closer to your heel maybe. Also you could replace the pedal cranks with shorter ones which would raise them off the bottom of the boat a little bit more. Can use standard bike cranks I THINK. There are indentations in the floor for extra heel clearance too.
Ive used them barefoot and shoed and either is fine. Pedals are padded.
99% sure width is fine. I will measure the pedal clearances. Feel free to comment again and remind me if i forget. Always happy to help. I just got home after two week vacation so really tired
