A Tour of SYMI, GREECE | The Most Beautiful Greek Island?
Wow i'm from Greece and didn't know that Symi was so beautiful .
I am having lunch in front of my computer and travelling Greece with Gabe. Awesome life!
Cool, what's for lunch?
Joshua Schmidt - that’s what I do too until I go to Greece in two years, my last visit to my native land was 10 years ago, I’m due 🇬🇷💙🇬🇷💙🇬🇷💙🇬🇷💙
OMG myself and my wife stayed in exactly the same spot in same hotel in june 2018. We're almost sure you had the same room as us and if not we were next to yours. Awesome memories of the beautiful island
Symi is a gem, the sea looks so inviting and the pretty views. Thanks for sharing your adventure and the great Greek music too!
Beautiful country.. 👍
Fans of the movie 'Pascali"s Island' would have recognised the tower and dockside right below Gabriel's lodgings. Symi was the fictional island 'Nisi' and the filming location for the movie (with Ben Kingsley, Helen Mirren and Charles Dance).
PS: I fell in love with the Greek islands watching this movie from a dreary movie theatre in west London way back in the 80s. Took me 30 years to actually get there. It was worth the wait.
Very cool. I haven't heard of that movie, I'll have to look for it.
One of my favourite places..beautiful island..❤️
What a wonderful island!
Symi Looks amazing! Little Green Islands are so beautiful, the colors of the light & sea are fantastic.
Very nice and peaceful island !!
The hair and beard length is perfect in this video Gabriel sir. Maybe it is due to the current vacation you are on and less editing work, stress etc, But you look very fresh. Happy for you and thank you for making it possible to exploring the world with you.
Symi is a beautiful island, thank you for sharing this beautiful vlog 😀👍
Thank you, Gabi ..because of you I have seen places that I could never see . Your energy and health are your biggest gifts never stop exploring. Thanks again :)
Really enjoy the Greek Islands episodes
Symi is splendid!
Yes yes symi island the princess 👸 of Aegean 👏
Wow that Island looks idyllic!
I was there and I loved it! I wish I could’ve stayed longer and not just for a day trip, next time I might try stay a few days - also prepare well! I should’ve worn my swim togs underneath my clothes and brought a sun hat
I’m coming in June for 10 days I can’t wait 😊 Symi centre I’m staying I love Symi only been for a day trip 2 yrs ago fell in love with the island great. Video
Wow, 22 islands! Can you please do another video about all of them as a collective and which were your top favorites? Which are good for families? Which have the calmest sand beaches? Etc.
Beautiful Island.
Wow breath taking scenery
The 🐈 hanging out by the stairs.
See how beautiful Symi is also Gabriel? like you say, every Greek island or place different yet gorgeous
Also. aside from that you could choose endless other islands after this one, like the closest one being Rhodos with it's history, butterfly valley and medieval old town. But also another interesting island on the fringes of the Dodecanese island group is Kastelorizo. Famous for one of the most amazing blue grotto's in the world being 150 meter in depth 50 meters in width and 45 meters high. Just a tip
I was looking at Kastelorizo and really wanted to go there. It's just so far out of the way, and then you have to come all the way back, so that's two long ferry rides. Which I'm sure makes it even better. We'll see, it's tempting to go for it anyway.
Thank you Gabriel!! So beautiful! Waiting for your next video! Take care, be safe! 😊❤
Pause at 17:15 . That is heavenly beautiful 😃
what a beauitful place, it seems so quiet ,, must be feeling so good just walking around chilling
great place gabriel , is good to see a friend after many years
It is not called Greek salad. You guys call it Greek salad. It is called "Horiatiki". Which means "village salad".
I agree that Symi is a beautiful island, but that was one of the rockiest beaches I've ever seen.
island no. 22 of 227 inhabited islands. more than 6000 in total... one island a day will take you 17 years to see them all 😂! good to know we have many more excellent videos to expect!!
the problem is: you need more than one day to actually explore one island :)
Gab...I think this could be your best video EVER..great filming solid audio and what a stunning location.. and great to catch up with Victor again.
Thanks Dave! Glad to hear it.
+Gabriel Traveler you could check out Kalymnos. ..much more independent of summer tourism. Also fiercely independent of heart culture and thought. Accessed via Kos, Rhodes by sea or front Athens...sea and air.
Wonderful video Gabe! 🇬🇷
Gabriel, you make amazing videos, every one of them are great. I love Greece, esp. the islands. Went many times, but not to all of them like you. You are fun guy, to watch. Thank you and kalinichta 👁👍❤️🥗🇬🇷
Hello everyone, Victors the man! Go for it Bro , Gabriel's #1 Guest Host/Wing Man, always enjoy the Videos when you guys hangout.
Great video!! Thanks. Can't wait to go back to Greece!
Watchng your video is just like me being in those great places. It also inpires me to travel as well. As always, great video Gabriel!
love that Island, thank you Gabriel
It's so lovely there and the weather looked glorious. You showed a clip of the Beatles Ashram. I think those videos from around Richitkesh have effected me the most of all your videos. But I so enjoy all your vids.
You are are one of the best budget traveller
2:34 How is it humanly possible to walk past a kitty and not pet it?
Hi Gabriel. Loving the Greek adventure. We head out to Prague on Sunday. Keep safe mate, looking forward to the next one....John.
Right on man, have fun! Prague is epic.
Kalimera Gabriel... Nice looking island.. Might have to check it out if I have time on my 2019 trip to Greece...
Very nice Gab ,Thankyou
When you get a chance visit the Greek island of Samothrace (Samothraki). It's really a gem!
Hi Gabriel, nice to see you in Symi. I've got to say that it is a fantastic island and I only visited it on a day trip from Rhodes a few years ago. Your video has now enabled me to see more of the island and it felt like I was there all over again.
Are you travelling to Rhodes next?
Thanks. I'm now on Karpathos.
Enchanting❤️
i can see people getting married on that beach. so awe inspiring
Pretty little bay. The Greek Islands all seem to have a dry landscape. How is their fresh water supplied. Is there a rainy season? Lovely quiet beach swim.
Cyclades and many of the Dodekanese have dry landscape. The Sporades and northern Aegean islands have forests. And the Ionian sea islands more green. But my favorite are the Cyclades in total (villages, nature, beaches, food, way of living) while the Ionian islands my favorite for nature and beach. But even in the Aegean sea, Sporades islands and Northern Aegean islands are more green. As for Crete (or Cyprus which I consider Greek island) and Rhodos or Kos which are Dodekanese as well similarly to Symi they have both green and dry areas.
The Cyclades and some of the Dodekanese require and have very good water management. There is always room for improvement but they have very good water management.
looks great
Love your videos and am excited to see where your travels take you next. Any plans, Gabriel??
I'm still not sure. Probably a nearby country but there are a lot to choose from. I'll check out a few more Greek islands and then probably make a spontaneous last minute decision to go somewhere else.
Hey, Gabe. I've watched a lot of your videos. One of the reasons I watch (besides just enjoying them) is because I am trying to choose a few places to check out for retirement. I was wondering if you ever look into the monthly cost of apartments for long-term renters in the places you visit? It would be excellent info for soon-to-be expats.
Hi there, no I never look at prices for apartments long-term since I don't stay places very long. There must be a good website for that but I'm not sure which one.
I was able to have a day trip by ferry to Symi from Rodos...
That was interesting.
Reminds me of Hydra. Hydra is wonderful!
This island town seems like a small version of beautiful amalfi coast.
Hello Gabriel!! Great vídeo greetings from symi !!!
Hi Mary, awesome, you live there or are visiting?
I live in symi :)
Saw your india vlog... Super.. You are role model for all Travellers.. Cheers..
Would have been nice to have seen some of the beautiful churches and monasteries on the island in ur vids a bit close up?
looks fantastic, will go there next year on a day trip from Rhodes at least. Have you been tempted to check out Karpathos? You can easily go onto Crete from there (and Gavdos if you want still)
and Crete has international airports so you can fly out of there to anywhere
Your friend is very handsome!😁 Have you ever thought of traveling with a small group of say 6 ppl just one time? If you ever do please think of me, I'd love to go! Im really loving this small island it would be a great place to write a novel📖 thanks for sharing the hidden secrets👏 I'll have to checky checky. Take care until next time my friend.✌
Gabriel, god afternoon!
Hey, if we ever were wondering if Greece was one of your favourite places to visit, bar almost nowhere else, well ... we surely can figure it all out now! LOL ;) ;)
Yep, definitely.
Nice video! This island is much better than Santorini for sure
Hi Gabriel, I thought I was going to see some sun salutation there for awhile no yoga class for show.
I found out my grandfather is Greek and he’s from the island of karpathos, near symi have you been there?
I could be wrong, but got the feeling that Anastasia (sp) wanted to be more than the landlord’s daughter. 😃

You should stay in Ermoupoli
Awesome! This is absolutely your most amazing video I have seen so far. Symi is so peaceful, beautiful. However, my island Crete is the best of all.
Sweet, glad you enjoyed it. I might be going to Crete next. Which places do you recommend? I've heard Chania is really nice.
Hi Gabriel, I have some very good tips for you and you can use my holiday condo in Crete.
Crete is absolutely a big island of a few hundred miles and somehow comparable (in driving distances) to California (it's a 7 hour drive by car from the absolute east to the west). It's climate is comparable with that of San Diego. The island has many amazing cities, villages, mountains, forests, gorges, castles, archeological sites, monasteries and beaches. If you have the time and do not need to rush, stay a couple of weeks to explore all the beauties Crete has to offer, including some of the best and healthy foods on the planet.
I. CITIES
CHANIA and RETHYMNON have both a restored middle age center with lighthouses and Venetian style streets. HERAKLION on the other hand is more damaged during the wars, but absolutely a lively and chaotic city. Heraklion has two very important highlights: 1. Knossos, the labyrinth of the Minotaur and 2. the archeological museum. In the east you will find the beautiful town of AGIOS NIKOLAOS and nearby the leper island of Spinalonga.
II. BEACHES
Crete has probably a few of the most amazing beaches in Europe. First of all ELAFONISI, BALOS and FALASARNA beach in the far western corner of the island (check it out!). In the south you will find MATALA, PREVELI and AGIA GALINI. In the east there is an endemic Palm forest beach called VAI (the only one in Europe).
III. MOUNTAINS
There are three big mountains ranges. In the west the LEFKA ORI or OMALOS. In the middle the PSILORITIS and in the east LASSITHI. On the Omalos you will find the dark forests of the SAMARIA gorge (the largest in Europe). Lassithi is well known for it's windmills on the mountain plateau.
IV. VILLAGES
Interesting villages are in my opinion the ones on the mountains. They maintain the traditional way of life, the local culture, habits and music. Most importantly the village of ANOGIA on the PSILORITIS in the middle of the island. I think you should visit that one if you want to find the real Crete and listen the local musicians over there. Next to that there is a very beautiful village in the south of Crete called LOUTRO. The most beautiful village is probably ACHARNES close to Heraklion. Another big village worth mentioning is KRITSA with the Kritsa gorge.
V. MONASTERIES, CASTLES & ARCHEOLOGICAL SITES
Important archeological sites from the Minoan civilization are: KNOSSOS, FESTOS, MALIA and LATO (close to Kritsa). The Greek-Roman city of Saint Titus is GORTYS (or GORTINA). There you will find a lot of ruins like temples and a theater.
Castles are spread all over the island. Almost all cities have castles (Chania, Rethymnon, Heraklion, Sitia, Ierapetra). Furthermore there is a nice castle in the west known as FRANCOCASTELLO and in the east SPINALONGA.
There are many monasteries as well spread over the whole island. Important in architecture (mostly renaissance and neo-classism) are the monasteries of ARKADI (close to Rethymnon), GOUVERNETOU (close to Chania) and TOPLOU (close to Sitia and Vai beach).
To summarize:
Try at least to visit the Samaria gorge, Chania, Rethymnon, Heraklion (including Knossos and the museum), Agios Nikolaos and the mountain village of Anogia. Absolute a must is the beach of Elafonisi, Balos (and Gramvousa), Preveli and Vai.
Excellent, thanks for all the info! I'll copy it to read when I get there.
I have a nice holiday apartment which you can use for a while if you want.
Wow
Wooo
Im going
U should travel to more Ionian Greek islands
I agree.
Hello sir I saw your regular video.and I like your videos .my question is which is the best 4k video with gopro colour and flat colour.? And what you want to add.?wide angle or superview
Hi, here's the full list of settings I'm using on my GoPro 6:
GoPro 6 settings: 1080p, 60fps, Linear angle, Manual audio control: wind only, Auto low light: OFF, Video stabilization: ON, Shutter: Auto, Ev comp: +0.5, Iso min: 100, Iso max: 3200, WB: Auto, Sharp: Med, Color: GoPro, Audio: Off.
Thank you sir.
Gabriel, you have listed almost everything that you use in your travels except for a cellphone, just out of curiosity what kind of phones do you use? also are those sandals comfortable enough? thanks
I have an LG Q7+ and the sandals were alright but not spectacular. I've definitely had ones that were more comfortable.
Hi Gabriel
Loving your latest videos on Greek Islands. Just had a question about India. Heading there in December for 6 weeks, do you take anti-malaria medication while in Rishikesh and Goa?
Hi Daniel, no, you don't need to take malaria tablets for those parts of India. The only places you might need to take malaria medication in India would be some remote jungle locations.
Gabriel Traveler thanks so much
I'm curious about the island Hydra, which apparently is an artist colony. Have you been there yet?
I hadn't really heard about it. Just checked it out, looks awesome! Maybe I'll stop by there.
Its the opposite of Mykonos ,writers, poets, sculptors ,musicians etc. Even Henry Miller was a fan . Cars are not allowed .
@@GabrielTravelerVideos Did you know Leonard Cohen had a house there?
Cool.
Jon Anderson of Yes, Rick Wright from Pink Floyd. The latter had a yacht there.
For one instance i read Syria in the thumbnail 😃😁
Omg.. I wish.. 😥
please visit the canary islands
Been there: czcams.com/video/8EOZAwJKzI0/video.html
love yoga its soo relaxing
TRUE
Right, however it can also be very painful
yes i couldn't walk for days!
WHY WHAT KIND YOGA U WERE DOING .......LOL ....
@@debdssssss6329 well all of them can be painful for the body which may not be that relaxing.
Hi Gabriel, what was that time of year?
October, perfect time to be in Greece, also May and June.
🤩
Gabriele what month did you visit Symi, Greece?
In October.
Amazing video man. You really motivated me to get back into CZcams and start vlogging. I really appreciate your content. In fact I just uploaded a video exploring London on my channel, if y’all don’t mind I’d appreciate you guys checking it out!
If it is not Covid 19, I would have been to Rhodes with optional activity to Symi island and Ephesus.
Any vegan options at the restaurants?
I'm not sure about that. If you ordered a Greek salad without the feta cheese then I think it would be vegan. Yemista (bell pepper and tomato stuffed with rice) might be vegan. Some of the side dishes seem to be vegan and are really good.
Thanks
What is the name of that tour group/company?
I'm not sure because it was organized by the retreat. But one tour group on the island that does day tours is called Poseidon.
😱
I think Abram might be a little bummed he’s not won most appearances in videos. Surely he’s in the lead, no? Beautiful place that is! 👍🏼✌🏼
I know, I thought of him about 30 seconds later. Also my brother has been in quite a few over the years.
Timepoint 03:13: One more Earthquake and THAT church (on THAT cliff) is ... well ... toast! :(
We have a lot of churches in Greece built over cliffs and they are standing there for centuries, so don't worry!
Please when you travel to Greece order ordinary food, avoid " tourist" food, forget gyros, souvlakiia, mousaka etc,We have much better traditional food...Also avoid expensive destination, Mykonos etc. Communicate with local people, make friends, enjoy every second, don't go with big tour, discover by your own the local beauties, avoid extreme hiking paths, Alcohol, over activity in 🌞.
AMD R5 1600 290X Tri x 8 gb
I go to Athen next month.
What do you mean with traditional food?
Like grilled fish, meat,... ?
What starters would be traditional?
Say, I have a request to ask of you, please:
You have visited many locales where the natives (and locals, even!) eat odder foods, if you will.
Can you please compile a video about all of the odder foods (bugs, weird fruits, etc.) that you have encountered over the many, many, MANY years of traveling and what your franker opinions are of these "delectables", please?
That'd be super cool to see it all done in one fell swoop, and to know what you have eaten, what you have not, and how you have felt about many of the more "peculiar" (in a manner of speaking, of course. Everything's relative, isn't it?) foods you have seen, and tasted.
It's been on my list to make a food compilation video for a while, I just haven't had the chance. I have a long list of other videos I want to make when I'm not so busy with the travel vlogs.
@@GabrielTravelerVideos come to Australia mate
I understand. I understand. I have become so ... (if you will) addicted to your content here, that seeing what I do from you has me thinking of WHAT ELSE I would love to see, and because you have been to SOOOOOOOOOOO many places in this vast world of ours, more than once, it seems to me as though you'd have some terrific insight on/about some of the odder, more peculiar stuff that you have encountered along the way.
** How about just taking a week long break or so, from travel vlogging and making compilation videos? **
No problem, watch all you want, I'll make more! Whenever I actually stay in one spot for a while then I'll be making some different types of videos including compilations, travel stories, tips, etc. Likely this winter I'll be taking a break from the world travels and then will have more time to make some other types of videos.
Alright. That does make the most sense, doesn't it?
Now, can you possibly give us a head's up as to when you miiiiiiight have a break, or two? ;)
GABY IN MIND . . . , GDM NICE BUMBUM . . . IM GOING FOR DAY TOUR . . . . ROFL
what was a temperature of the water?
I'm not sure but pretty warm.
@@GabrielTravelerVideos Great. I was asking because it is October...
October is still nice in Greece. Warm days and cool evenings. Water is still warm enough to swim if it's sunny out.
Dude have you moved to greece now?
Practically. I'll moving on pretty soon though.
Keep it up Gabe. Youve showed us the world like no other 👍🏿
