Heh, I served on the U.S.S. Reasoner FF-1063 where the original video was filmed. 1979-1981. I always wondered what happened to the plaque with the gold record when She was decommissioned and sold to Turkey.

I should add that I'm a straight man and a moderate conservative. Still feel the Navy is missing the aircraft carrier not using this as a recruiting tool. These guys are outstanding! If I weren't already retired Army and 63 I'd join the Navy in a heartbeat because of this song alone.

I was in the army 1st. Then I joined the Navy.
I found out the the Pacific is equal to all of the earths land surface. Went back and retired from the national guard.
Got deployed 3 times in the guard. 6600 + days. Had to serve 2 extra years. For some reason 2 years was missing until I did finally did retire.
I remember many years ago , hearing that the U.S. NAVY had acquired the rights to use " In The Navy " Permanently ( for recruiting ) etc.
They didnt use it officially but it served its purpose...many signed up anyway.
I joined Navy Reserve and is now a LtCommander because of this hahaha
Those were the best years when I full filled my dreams & joined the navy as a 18 year old sailing round the world we used 2 sing this song all the time

Flashback to early youth life, after College Graduation (UST BSME), I enlisted with the US NAVY and became a crew of the USS RANGER (CVA61) then became a crew of USS COLUMBUS (SSN-762) and now retired here in Nottingham UK. So, everytime I play THIS song, it brings back my happy go lucky past life and start marching/dancing...

Just absolutely love these guys since the 70’s! From a time before people were “but hurt” over if they could not decide who or what they were. Then it did not matter and you were whom you were. Nobody pushed anything on anybody and it was all great. The best and world’s longest touring band!

Sure it’s great when you’re not the person being targeted, having rights taken away, etc. What you missed is that during that time era, most gay people could not be who they were born to be openly without retribution. It’s definitely not a decision or choice, either-ask the gay men I’ve known who have been beaten, fired, turned out by their families, etc. Nobody would willingly choose to be marginalized or traumatized.
The Village People were definitely an anomaly, kind of a shock to mainstream America, and I loved them to bits even if I didn’t understand the culture at the time. Brave and entertaining!

Yes they do absolutely, I live in Pensacola Florida where the blue Angels are I live close next navy base you can hear their jet running ready to take off flying in the air and see them practicing flying in the air and doing their stunts they were amazing to watch them do it. you can watch them flying and watching them any time want and you can see them flying by your house when your sitting outside too.
I'm straight but these guys make me want to start dancing around the kitchen at age 69! I don't care about them being gay, that's their business, I thought they were funny, unique & did good music. Back then it was "to each his own" & not "u will be cancelled, excoriated,punished,threatened, fired" etc if you dare to disagree, dissent, think for yourself, exercise ur right to free speech! Just because others may have been mistreated or worse, I'm not going to be blamed for it! I think for myself & allow others to do the same,but don't try forcing me to subject myself to the "thought police"! Not going to happen! That said, Village People guys made fun good music. The funnest story I remember was the song" IN THE NAVY" The navy loved the song and used for their ads to join the navy......until they found out that the group was a gay group of men and the navy couldn't drop that song fast enough. That was so funny at the time.

Wow wow the disco days will always be remembered as the time of my life I did see the Bee Gees a few times Donna Summer lots of the great disco acts Tavares. I feel very bad for people nowadays in their 20s and 30s. They could never experience this Saturday night fever days and I was even at 2001 odyssey Bay Ridge Brooklyn the Milky Way limelight studio 54 fudgies the red parrot. Well, just think about it.
