Really like how you tend to explain precisely what you are up too with every shot. in relation to the exposure triangle, (aperture, iso & shutter speed) for us beginner photographers to understand a concept/task better. Often more times than not too much is said without any guidance, example or execution of how to go around what one is trying to achieve, if you catch my drift... Again, good detail and informative hands on explanation. Cheers to many more breathtaking compositions!!!

FYI: Diffraction makes a lens softer at small apertures. In the future, try to keep the aperture between f8-f11 for sharpness tests as past that, diffraction usually kicks in, softening the image.

While I agree the Sigma is super lens and a great alternative to the Sony 50mm f1.2 especially when comparing prices. But I'd be curious how you find this Sigma stacks up to other 50mm closer in price to it. My only issue with it, is the size. I'd only use for dedicated shooting sessions, and not a carry-around lens.

    Sigma all the way!
I got my Sigma 70-300 APO DG Macro years ago, brand new, as it was up there with lenses twice its price and I was on a budget. Of course, nowhere near L lenses costing many times more but very decent still, especially at that MSRP of 219 Euros including a hood and soft pouch. Now I got a Sigma 150-600 Contemporary for the same exact reason. I love them both. I've been looking for a proper 50mm now as I really hate my EF 50mm 1.8 II "nifty fifty" and have been drooling over this Sigma and the Sony APS-C lineup as well. I might even get a used Sony A6000 series body just to pair it with the 30 and 56mm Sigma 1.4 lenses for anything other than my bird photography setup on the 7D Mark II as that will be a very compact combo that I can always have with me.
P.S. Scotland is incredibly beautiful! I have to visit.

I own the Sigma 50mm 1.4 Art lens and use it with my Canon R5. It's an incredible lens! I paid $570 for it. Among the best money I've spent on a lens to date, and I own a 70-200 2.8, an RF 100-500, A Sigma 14-24, a Sigma 60-600 Sport as well. Sometimes you have to sacrifice weight for quality, and this one does a little due to its heft, just like the 14-24 (another crazy good lens!) but it's well worth it. The end result is what it's all about, and this lens is stunning.

I had this lens and replaced it with the Sony Zeiss 55mm f/1.8, which had a better contrast, but worse bokeh, and later with the Zeiss 50mm f/1.4, which is optically better wide open than the Sigma and the Zeiss 55. But I have compared the Sigma with a super expensive Zeiss Otus and from f/4 upwards the Sigma is better than the Otus. So at higher appertures it is a stellar lens. Wide open is very good but not excellent. I use other sigma lenses which are brilliant, like the 35mm DG DN, the 85mm (first version) and the 24-70. All are one of the best in class.

It is soft in the corners at only 2.8 (sharp when closed down).

Nikon, as well as Canon have prohibited 3rd party lens manufacturers access to their mirroless mounts, which is why from a mirroless perspective Sony has the best availability for made for mirroless lenses from Tamron, Sigma & Samyang. It's that flexibility that has kept me on the Sony system. The only thing I need to consider now is trading in my A9's & A7iii's for two Sony A1's, or step up my lens collection. I must be unlucky! I've owned the 50mm Sigma Art, also the 20mm, and the 35mm Sigma Art. The 50mm had temperamental "sticky" focus, the 20mm used to fog up internally at the slightest whiff of humidity and the 35mm shuck itself apart. They all hunted in low light. I spent more time nursing and calibrating them than using them. I agree, they're tack sharp and clinical, but not trustworthy or reliable for longevity compared to name brands. I hope their quality control has improved in recent years

@@KaiTiuraAs easy as that! And yes, I did eventually! It taught me a valuable lesson! Don't go cheap when professionally shooting. Pay the extra and stay with native brands instead. After that, I never looked back and my confidence grew. All 3 Sigma's mentioned previously were purchased within a couple of days of each other. Brand spanking new. When the issues became evident, I was in denial because I heard many folk talking about calibrating them with a USB dock. So being a new style of lens, I purchased the USB dock and I gave Sigma a chance. After a lot of faffing, I decided I had enough evidence, "that it wasnt me," and they were returned. I didn't want to replace them, as all three had the same or similar generic issues. I also owned 3 camera bodies at the time to rule out any possible camera issues or user error. I also had plenty of native glass to use as a benchmark too. I can see the appeal with Sigma, because when they're tack sharp, the quality is stunning. So anyone who has time on their hands, or has a slower pace to photography, I'm sure the shots are absolutely fantastic. However from my own personal experience with Sigma, for fast paced weddings, event photography, and low light shooting. They're simply not reliable or responsive enough. Especially when treasured moment last only a split seconds. So, as with every photographer out there, we base our brand trust on recommendations, experience, nostalgia, or from a good or bad experience. Unfortunately for me, the extra weight didn't justified for the level of reliability I was getting.

Hi.. I am R6 shooter also. May I know how this lens' perform with R6? Do you need to update the firmware of the lens prior to using this lens with R6?

It works great on the R6. No need for an update. Off course you need an adaptor. Good luck @@widiartoproboprasetyo9330

Good infomercial, thanks. I would say you need to add "for the price" when labeling the cheap Sigma as the market's best. For sure, it does not beat the new GM 50/1.2 which is insanely great. And smaller. And lighter. :)

Is the sigma 1.4 50mm better than the Nikon 50mm 1.8s?

i shoot sigma art 24,35 und 50mm, and the canon 3 major Zooms from 16zmm to 200mm shoot wit Canon C70 and . i finde it superb. they do perfect eyetracking and all autofocus actions fast and not to loud. to run a round snapshooting, i offen have my canon 40mm 2.8 pancake . on the Canon r6. bestprice/ qualitiy ever lense and so decent and little. but the sigmas are heavy and big but ... so very special, claer and so wow... they are absolutely qualified to shoot cinema quality on the C70 oder the othe Canon Cinema Cameras.
