- From a young age, I've noticed a disparity between the emotions I feel and those experienced by my peers. Concepts like love and empathy always seemed distant and unfamiliar to me.
Communication has always been challenging, especially when attempting to provide emotional support to those closest to me. I felt emotionally colorblind, unable to grasp the full spectrum of human experience.
Over the years, I've been labeled as "cold" and "callous." As a teen, I was terrified that I might even be a sociopath, which led me to actively avoid mental health professionals out of fear of what diagnosis I might receive.
Only in the last few years, amidst the larger discussion regarding neurodiversity, have I come to accept, and even embrace, the person I am.
"Monochrome" stands as one of the most personal works I've ever created. I hope it will mean as much to you as it does to me and offer comfort to those who feel the same.

What a compelling song. I experience hyper empathy, so while it may not resonate with me the same way, a perspective like this is still important to me. I know others who don't experience empathy, as well as loveless individuals, and I see them struggle to be accepted, and it really fucking sucks. The constant barrage of "love makes you human!" from society may feel noble to some, but i don't see how it can be when we're leaving so many out of the equation of human experience by insisting that certain emotions give us our humanity. Simply being grants us humanity. I hope that in your path to accepting yourself others can follow, and we can all learn a thing or two about the vast sea of lives out there. You're a brilliant artist, Daniel, and i look forward to seeing what you do next.
Some fun facts about colorblindness. There are three different color sensing cells in the retina which means there are seven different combinations of atypical color vision. Absence of function in all three, true monochromatic vision, is extremely rare. Most of us function fairly normally with only a few obvious difficulties. Myself I have trouble seeing lighter shades of red and the spectrum of blue to green is very hard for me to place where a given color blend belongs. Any degree of color blindness disqualifies one from becoming a pilot and pursuing electronics is highly discouraged. Despite being labeled as a deficiency or handicap it is theorized that we have retained the trait be cause it proved helpful in our more primitive past. Colorblind hunters/soldiers are less likely to be fooled by natural or artificial camouflage and have an easier time spotting movement in low light situations. The fact that it occurs almost exclusively in males seems to support this theory. Sorry if I'm being a bit pedantic but I just wanted to point out that different isn't automatically worse and the majority of us feel like outsiders for at least the first half of our lives. I had to face myself and deal with it in a different way so I make music thank hell for that its the only thing that keeps me alive and listening to ur music while I was going through my toughest times of my life helped me thank you. I got a bit more out of reading the description than listening to the song, as I have a hard time understanding lyrics in general.
What you're describing is something I find very relatable, and more than a few of us are let down by mental health services when it comes to help and potential diagnosis.
Whether you're ADHD, Autistic, or something else, you deserve both acceptance and help.
As to the song, for the last few years your music has sounded like the second coming of New Kids on the Block, I don't know why the change in style but it's also been nice to listen to, glad to see you still creating.
I grew up on New Kids on the Block so maybe that’s what it is… however I don’t remember any of their songs having screaming. Maybe I should revisit their discography. 😅

Daniel how the hell are you able to write so many absolute bangers that resonate so deeply with things I have been unable to express myself. Yea the discourse over the last few years about neurodiversity has been very eye opening to me, and here I am in my 50s understanding things about myself and mypast that there were never even any words for while I was growing up. Everyone around me seemed when I was younger to be able to draw connections to what they were experiencing and some labels to those experiences. I felt like I was in the dark navigating without guidance or light. I am not saying I had it harder than others, its just that I always felt like I was soooo different that I felt as if I was an alien to the experiences they were having.
There isnt an Aesthetic Perfection song that i dont love. Amazing work Daniel ❤

I don't think I would call myself antisocial. I really like being around the people I really like being around. But I also really enjoy my solitude as well. It's hard to pinpoint, honestly. Either way, I'm really glad you connect with the song. It means a lot!

I don’t think I’m empathic. I’m polite to a fault, but it’s because I believe in things like customs and their social utility. They also help me understand how to navigate situations like an instruction manual. But I do have good intentions even if I don’t know how to express them. It’s complicated. Ha.
@@ClosetoHumanMusic I've heard the term "LARPing being a human" used to explain it. "Normal" social interaction doesn't come to us naturally, so we learn interactions as if they're scripts. It's the common experience of us neurodivergents. You're in very, very good company. Being around other NDs is liberating since we more readily shed societal expectations.

The only other nom de plum I've ever used is "Necessary Response", but I've since reabsorbed and rereleased those songs as AP. So I hope that's what you're referring to!
