Gathering Chicken Eggs & How to Store Them....Unrefrigerated!

- There is nothing better than gathering your own fresh eggs every day from your own flock of chickens.
When storing your fresh eggs, if they haven't been refrigerated, you can keep them on your counter at room temperature in a open basket or egg holder.
Try not to wash the eggs if they are clean to avoid removing the natural protective barrier.
If the egg has a smudge of dirt or poop, gently wipe that spot only to get it clean.
Displaying your eggs creates quite the conversation for family and visitors.
You can refrigerate them ,however, eggs are porous and will take on the flavor of items in your refrigerator. Thus losing that farm fresh taste.

i help take care of 52 chickens for some friends when they are away, i am soooo glad i’m not the only one who says “Thank You Ladies” when i collect their eggs. 💜💜💜
Hens are amazing the way they give us those delicious eggs day after day. Enjoy them 🐔♥️
Just had to say, I have watched a lot of chicken videos. Your coop it the cleanest of the bunch! WOW! Impressive. Oh, nice video. Thanks for sharing.
that's what I thought too!! super clean!!
Thanks so much. I work in the coop and run everyday cleaning. I like a clean coop and happy chickens 😄
such a clean lovely home for your chickens good job!
I clean a little everyday. Thanks for watching!
I've been watching chicken/farming videos for over 7years, and I have NEVER seen a coop as clean as yours!!😱😍 also, sadly I must of been watching the wrong one's, because I missed the part where you can keep fresh chicken eggs on the counter!? 😱 Never knew that. Great video! Thanks for sharing🤓
I didn’t think you knew how to count at first 🤣😂
CERAMIC EGG FOR THE WIN!
I seriously ONLY read the comments to see if anyone else was confused about the egg she left behind. :D
Why put ceramic eggs?
It’s to encourage them to lay
@@PaulZArts Typically you only need to keep them in the nest box just prior to when you expect your ladies to begin laying. Once they've laid a time or two, you can remove the porcelain egg. It just lets them know this is where to come to lay eggs ;)
Well done and very clean!
Thanks for sharing!
Very clean operation! Dirty eggs is also a sign that your chickens have worms. A one-time treatment of a little dewormer in the water will take care of it.
Great video, thanks for all the info!
Thanks for watching!
Great info to the newbie here
Thank You just got my 2 first eggs! Florida also!
Hello. That is awesome! We bought some land in Port Charlotte area. We will be building a home there and I will have a bigger coop! Thanks for watching and happy chicken keeping!
Thanks for video. I’m new at this with 8 hens & 1 rooster(surprise). Waiting any day for them to start laying eggs.
You have the cleanest coop I have ever seen on any videos😁. So clean I think I could sleep in there;-). Will work on getting mine cleaner.
Again, Thanks so much for video information!
Hello. Thanks for watching and I am OCD about keeping things clean. We built a larger coop double the size in the newer videos...it's just as clean...lol! Good luck with your chickens and happy holidays!
@@colesbackyardcoop Thanks & will check out your newer videos...subscribed to your channel. Happy Holidays to you!
Thank you
You're very welcome!
Like others said, that is the cleanest coop I think I've seen. I have OCD on some things, it's obvious you have it on your coop LOL. But that's a good thing. :)
Hello. Yes, I have OCD for everything I touch and the chicken coop is no exception.....lol! Cleaning some everyday, makes it easy to keep up with. Thanks for watching!
I’ve got a 1970’s velvet picture of Elvis Presley in my chicken coop. People say I’ve got the coolest chicks around.
Love this video this is the cleanest coop I seen. What product do you use to clean I want to make sure I don't use anything that will harm them.
Hello. Thank you! I use white vinegar and water. Thanks for watching and happy chicken keeping!
Great video!! I noticed you had some markings on the end of your cartons, were those use by dates? I was curious on how to date when my chickens get old enough to lay eggs.
Hello. Those are stickers I found on eggcartons.com they have alot of good supplies for egg packaging. Thanks for watching and happy chicken keeping!
I feel bad that Jasmine got called out for not laying eggs. I'm sure she will lay an egg in no time! Hahaha
Thanks for watching! She did lay finally. I have new chicks coming in July. 🐓
smart.
Thanks for watching!
Where did you buy your date stamp you have put on the outside of your egg cartons please? The stickers are a lovely touch too 😁
Debbie Mraz Hello Debbie, I go to eggcartons.com for all my supplies and cartons. Thanks for watching.
I hear that the bloom doesn't last but a few hours. I wash mine right away and keep them in the fridge, I used to keep my eggs on the counter but it would upset my stomach.
Do what works best for you. I have always kept mine on the counter at room temperature and never had a problem. We eat alot of eggs so they don't last long. Happy Chicken Keeping!
How many weeks did it take to gather 3 dozen eggs while also eating 3-4 per day? And was that all from 6 hens?
durkadur27 hello, with only 6 chickens at that time, I collected 2 to 3 dozen eggs per week. We had just enough eggs to sustain us daily. I now have 14 hens so I have plenty for us and I sell 4 to 5 dozen eggs per week. Thanks Justine
What do you use to scrub and clean roosts??
I use old washcloths to clean the perches daily. I also have a scraper and a long handle brush for scrubbing. Thanks for watching!
I had a hen show up after hurricane Michael. She kinda adopted me and I welcome her into my home every night to sleep. She is laying eggs on a regular basis but I am new to this. When do I gather? And when is an egg bad? Any info would be great. Shes very beautiful. Shes reds and orange colors with some browns. Like an autumn day. Her name is Gigi.
Hello. I love this story and she sounds beautiful. You should collect the eggs daily and keep them in a basket on your counter or you can refrigerate. Eventually, you should get one more hen to keep her company. Chickens are flock animals. Feed her a good layer feed and I give treats like apple, greens broccoli etc. Good luck and thanks for watching!
@@colesbackyardcoop thank you. I appreciate your info and I will look into a friend for her. Shes very sweet.
where are you located in Florida? I would love to purchase some eggs.
DeQuita Rosser Hello, I'm in West Central FL. West of Orlando.
Where do you get your chickens from?
NalaLana123 hello, I used Ideal Poultry and Murray McMurray Hatchery. They are both good quality chicks. Sometimes I will order fertile eggs from Ebay and hatch my own. Happy Chicken Keeping! Justine
why are there only 6 now? wasn't there more before?
NalaLana123 I actually have 12 now but I did have 6 for awhile. I rotate my flock every 2 to 3 yrs.
Which one is jasmin
Hi. Jasmine is the black and white Ameraucana. Look at the new videos of her with babies.
What do I do if I also have a rooster with my girls?
Hello. You don't have to do anything special. The eggs will be fertilized which are still good to eat. You can store them the same way I do. Thanks for watching and happy holidays!
Why is it that store eggs are kept cool then? Are those eggs washed, ruining the natural protective barrier?
Hello. Yes, commercial production eggs are washed and packaged by machines so they are refrigerated for distribution to grocery stores and no way to know the date they were laid. Thanks for watching! 🐓
@@colesbackyardcoop Thanks. My wife and I have discussed getting some chickens, but we are doing a lot of research before we make any final decision
These chickens are gene modified chickens or not 🤔
No, I raise them with all natural food , no hormones. Thanks for watching!
