Gathering Chicken Eggs & How to Store Them....Unrefrigerated!

  • There is nothing better than gathering your own fresh eggs every day from your own flock of chickens.
    When storing your fresh eggs, if they haven't been refrigerated, you can keep them on your counter at room temperature in a open basket or egg holder.
    Try not to wash the eggs if they are clean to avoid removing the natural protective barrier.
    If the egg has a smudge of dirt or poop, gently wipe that spot only to get it clean.
    Displaying your eggs creates quite the conversation for family and visitors.
    You can refrigerate them ,however, eggs are porous and will take on the flavor of items in your refrigerator. Thus losing that farm fresh taste.

Great video! Thanks for sharing🤓

      @@PaulZArts Typically you only need to keep them in the nest box just prior to when you expect your ladies to begin laying. Once they've laid a time or two, you can remove the porcelain egg. It just lets them know this is where to come to lay eggs ;)

    Very clean operation! Dirty eggs is also a sign that your chickens have worms. A one-time treatment of a little dewormer in the water will take care of it.

    • @colesbackyardcoop
      @colesbackyardcoop  Před 7 lety +1

      durkadur27 hello, with only 6 chickens at that time, I collected 2 to 3 dozen eggs per week. We had just enough eggs to sustain us daily. I now have 14 hens so I have plenty for us and I sell 4 to 5 dozen eggs per week. Thanks Justine

      Hello. I love this story and she sounds beautiful. You should collect the eggs daily and keep them in a basket on your counter or you can refrigerate. Eventually, you should get one more hen to keep her company. Chickens are flock animals. Feed her a good layer feed and I give treats like apple, greens broccoli etc. Good luck and thanks for watching!
