As far as I can see, the two sides are employing different stategies and have different aims. The US's aim is to retain its position as Global Hegemon, where the USA has the largest economy in the World, its writ holds sway everywhere and no one dares to go against it, where the USA has the military power to overwhelm any country that might dare to defy its diktat. This even seems to include a country's position on transgender and sexual preference matters! The means employed by the US are propaganda, stirring up troubles (E.g ethnic conflicts) sanctions and sabotage.
The US is very skilled at propaganda. They have weaponised the long experience in Madison Avenue of effective advertising. Their sanctions policy is a double-edged sword, without a handle. Their sabotage is failing, but very ambitious.
The Chinese government's stated aim is to develop China, economically and socially, to use its great wealth to help other, poorer countries to develop and in this way to increase its trading possibilities and influence. It also, of neccesity, because of the attitude of the US and its allies, wants to build a military which is capable of detering/defeating any nuclear and/or conventional military threat. It also has the clearly stated aim, of finishing the Chinese revolution by unifying all, of what they consider, Chinese territory. What the extent of and success or failure of Chinese espionage is I do not know. As far as I am aware, they have no sabotage program in the US or anywhere else.
