A buddy of mine is having a birthday so I thought I'd make him a personalized tool box. You may have heard of him, Derek from Malden. His CZcams channel... / @derekfrommalden
I'm actually pretty please with how this turned out considering it was my first attempt. I might have to try out another one to refine the process.

Thanks for leaving in the 'mistake tray'. You're that much more ahead of the game, if you decide to make a smaller tool box! Great job Doug, and we love what you did with the muriatic acid and hydrogen peroxide. That gave it a great patina!

When i saw the insides of the box painted beautifully black, i was pretty excited to see the dull black royal finish on the outside of the box as well .... And i was thinking "fabulous!"
Buy then
You sprayed acid
And coated it with rust!
Now an unable to sleep!

After you bent the ends up, how did you bend the long sides? Hoping to do this with some welding students but will need to build one myself first!

You could use whats called a finger brake, which allows you to bend a section of the sheet metal. Or do what I did and clamp a length of flat thick steel along the line where you want to bend. Scoring the line helps and using a rubber mallet, bend the length. Hope that made sense
