- A look at the F36 motor drive for the Nikon F camera.
I forgot to mention the cordless battery pack takes 8 x AA batteries that fit in the base after removing the nut & plate on the side.
Thank you so much for this! I have just attached my own F36 to my Nikon F, and it looks like such a beast and built like a tank! Thanks again and with kindest wishes, Paul.
I just bought an F with the M-36 drive. Your video was the perfect way for me to get acquainted with the system. I’m going to look around on eBay for the cordless battery pack and give it a go. I guess there isn’t a way to test the drive without buying the battery pack so I’ll just keep my fingers crossed.
I have 5 of these F36 motors. I just love them.
Super informative Tony,
Thanks for sharing all your knowledge on the motor drive.
Looks amazing too.
Thank you for the explanation! This is a highly aprecciated video as it is very difficult to find original NIkon F-36 manual.
Awesome video, thank you!
This goes to show how far the motor drives had come. Now these days, the motor drives are more efficient than these motor drives. I do like Nikon and I own the Nikon F100 and the Nikon F5. Cheers, Flood!
Thank you! This explains why I can't get my F-36 from ebay to fit on the F body...there is something stopping the back from going the last few mm into the camera. Also didn't know about synchronizing...guess I'd better take to the camera repair shop.
Thanks for the information, must say your equipment looks brand new and it's also a joy that you take good care of your equipment. (And the tip of using aluminium coins) Also searching for a minty Nikon F or SP, but unfortunately these are getting rare.
Nice great condition F items you have..
Love the "F" It's the epitome of a real stills camera. Try putting an 85mm 1.4 on it and feel the weight. It's a beast. Thanks for the tip on the base plate. Now I know why I couldn't get mine working. By the way there are many different base plate configurations as I bought a number of them thinking I had the wrong one till seeing your video. Thanks!!
Nice idea :)
What is the procedure when it is time to reload another roll of film into the F with the motor attached?
I enjoyed the video. I have wanted a MD for years now but wouldnt use it much hence why ive never bought one. I go to the football, thats the only way I would use it I think. What do you use it for mainly?
I used to have a 65 Photomic F. I regret selling it, especially so soon after a CLA. I would never sell my Black 74 F2 because of that! Never! The 60s to 80s era Nikon will never be beaten as a system. Beautiful gear.
I don't really use motor drives. Too film hungry! Thanks for the comments.
Hi Tony. I'm a Subscriber, of yours. Have, enjoyed All, your review's. Do you actually own The F6? Would. Like your valued Experience on The Camera. I, have owned several Nikon Bodies, and Lenses, both Ai and AIS. In fact i could be described as A Nikon Nut. Enjoyed, all your Review's and find them extremely enjoyable. Many thanks and Kind regards Colyn R.S.V.P.
The F6 is my favorite SLR. It's just a joy to use.
According to MIR.com the M36 motor drive came synchronized to the Nikon F from the factory, and if you want to match one to a Nikon F it may require the help of a camera shop that knows what it's doing to synchronize it. Is that true? I kind of gave up on the idea of getting an M36 when I read that. Or is that just making sure that rocker sits under that bar when you install the base plate?
Fitting the drive as shown in my video should ensure it will fire the shutter on the camera. However, I have found that the frame countdown on the drive might not sync correctly with the camera. In my experience the drive stopped firing at its frame 1 instead of 0. I suspect this is down to mechanical tolerances.
Yes. Very true. It is more of a timing issue in continuous fire. They’d jam. I had this issue w/ 1959 F w/ FRN finder & F250 back I wanted the F36 back on
Does this work on the SP? I know there was one made for the SP but seeing as the F and SP are almost the same camera I figured it was worth an ask.
This will not work on the SP as the required baseplate for the F will not function.
also, if you have a 12 shot film, set it to 12, so the film doesn't break, nowdays most rolls are 12 or 24 shots, not 36!
