    Hi all! Thanks for listening/watching! We definitely have plans to react to a track or two off of Right Place, Wrong Person with our full react crew in the future! Since our react crew consists mostly of college students, during school breaks we’re unable to film full crew reactions to new releases as everyone travels out of town. Therefore, our Classical & Jazz Musicians React series is on film hiatus mid-May through August. We’ll be able to cover recent releases again when school starts back up in September. In the meantime, we’ll work on editing the reactions we already have scheduled! (Which includes a 4-person reaction to Come back to me ☺)

    On the forest fire line. Namjoon is often associated with a tree. Namu means tree in Korean, fans sometimes refer to him in this way, and even his previous collaborators described him in this way. Finally, he sometimes talks about life as a tree with more branches developing the more years you have.

    • @shockofthenew
      @shockofthenew Před 2 měsíci +23

      Why didn't I think of this before, it's such a good point! He is strongly associated with trees and has quite a few lyrics comparing himself and his life to trees, so the forest fire line makes even more sense in that context.

    • @r17-f6b
      @r17-f6b Před 2 měsíci +14

      Oh yeah that last part about the branches being parts of your life makes so much sense taking into consideration it seems like Namjoon’s idea of what his life would be changed drastically, like it burned

    RM had an album review with Jimin(video is called 'MINI MONI MUSIC') where he discussed how the album came to be, concept etc. He said a group of forty musicians and producers took over the 5th floor of the HYBE building and held a "song camp" for a matter of months. He said Sam Yawn told RM that RM has such a dichotomy of personality maybe he should work through it musically and delay his enlistment and make another album. You should check out the video. Full of insight and raw honesty by RM. 'Around The World In a Day' Mt #1. Not a musician, but 76 years old and a consumer of all the Greats from Sinatra, Sam Cooke, Elvis, Beatles, Stones, Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Motown, Bob Marley and right through to BTS, Rock, R&B, Reggae, Hip Hop and Rap, to me this album is a Musical Masterpiece. 💯💯💯💯💯🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

    Let's face it This album has all us little music nerds bouncing with joy.
    RM plays the tenor sax in the militairy band. He came top of his training cadre and was consulted. Known as the clumsy god of destruction the idea of him with armaments did worry me. Having seen him hurt himself so often... He even had to have stitches on the first day of filming the mv of COME BACK TO ME.

  • @em-boldens885
    @em-boldens885 Před 2 měsíci +33

    For Come Back to Me, both the full 6:29 version and the radio edit were released at the same time as the pre-release. The mv is just a slightly different cut from both. When we saw how long the song was we cheered.

    RM is in the military band learning to play the sax but he could not play it before enlisting. When his bandmate Jin finished his military service, the other members greeted him at the gate and RM brought his sax and played a snippet of Dynamite.

    • @OT7_DopeOldARMY
      @OT7_DopeOldARMY Před 2 měsíci +16

      I think this is an assumption, not fact. We don't actually know for sure that he hadn't been taking sax lessons for a while with the intention of playing in the military band. He oculd have been practicing/learning the sax for 5 years for all we know. Neither he nor Big Hit have ever addressed it one way or the other.
      Having said that, It doesn't look like RM is the "Kim" credited on it, even though it is someone who's family name is Kim.🙂

    • @yeizzycastro6303
      @yeizzycastro6303 Před 2 měsíci +8

      "he could not play it before enlisting"? are you sure? porque de lo que he aprendido RM tiene un trillón de talentos que parece que army ni conoce. RM toca el piano, guitarra, ukulele y flauta, además de Sax.
      RM es un genio que le encanta la música, además de un artista que valora la creación, por eso me encanta ver a reales músicos reaccionando a la música que él crea. Recuerdo la reacción de Change pt2 en este canal, woao ver la capas de significación que RM alcanza con cada una de sus elecciones, es como distinguir las direcciones de las pinceladas en un cuadro de Monet.

      @@OT7_DopeOldARMY That’s exactly right. They never addressed it. He never, ever said he plays an instrument. And the members were asked if they did in an interview. We know Suga plays piano and was learning guitar, V played sax for 3 years, Jin learned how to play certain songs on the guitar and piano, Jungkook played the drums for a rendition of Dynamite. Are you really calling me out for an imaginary behind-the-scenes hidden talent of RM’s that he never mentioned? Don’t be ridiculous!

      @OT7_DopeOldARMY Před 2 měsíci +5

      @@sharonlahaye5803 No, I’m pointing out that you stated as 100% fact something we do NOT know as absolute fact. All you had to do is add a qualifier like “We don’t believe that” or “as far as ARMY knows.” It’s equally as likely that he took lessons for a year, or 6 months, or 3 months before joining the military as it is that he didn’t. Just don’t state things as fact that haven’t been confirmed or denied by a member or Big Hit. It’s a simple concept.

    i so hope the musicians that participated in the making of this album know how much people are dissecting and analyzing and chewing on the songs
    i cant imagine how satisfying it would feel to have these little intentional details you put in be pointed out and appreciated!
    havent really decided on a top three but based on which songs i end up repeating the most: domodachi, interlude, and around the world in a day
    i have little to no knowledge on music theory, classifying instruments etc but there really is something that just scratches your brain when you hear these songs.
    i am also sooo curious about the making process of this album and if it was approached with technical ideas and carefully assembled together or if it was going by the innate musicality of a group of talented people and rendering/tweaking details to refine it
    my current favorite pastime is watching people discuss and review this wonderful album so this video was super enjoyable!!!
    thank you for all the musical insights on rpwp

    Such an incredible record! Ambitious and experimental but so digestable I've been going back to it everyday since release and it doesn't get old! Such a perfectly flow, each tracks leads to the other harmonically, rhythmically, in energy, story telling and I'm really brought on this emotional journey of hitting a breaking point to getting lost and slowly finding my right place and/ or getting assurance to be the right person regardless! With wach track also telling its own story and standing on its own
    I could rant for days!!

    Abt Come Back to Me
    He performed this song during Suga's last encore concert in Seoul back in August 2023, but he said the song was still untitled and not finished bc he was still working on it. He worked on the album until the very last days before he had to leave for the military in December, so ARMY were anticipating it a lot. And yes, Come Back to Me came out as a 6:28 song in a single format and debuted with over 3 milliion streams in the first 24 hours, streams from the radio edit part fo that single **did/do not** combine on streaming platforms or charts bc they are registered under seperate ISCR codes. The regular version from the pre-release and the album version are the same track, so the streams were transfered over (not combined) once the full album released. Come Back to Me placed #3 on bubbling under Hot100. A SIX AND HALF MINUTE SONG FROM A KOREAN ARTIST. The radio edit is the one that was sent to radio stations, but ofc, since this is a foreign artist, it barely got any pins, most were from fan request challenges that ARMY won against fans of Ariana, Sabrina, Taylor, Billie, etc
    Also want to point out 7/11 songs were deemed ineligible for broadcast by the korean government bc they contain swear words, profanity, and vulgar expressions and the first track "Right People, Wrong Place" because "it promotes anti social and unhealthy values" and most of the album is only streamable on melon for 18+ users

      To me it sounds incongruous and unsettling, given Namjoon’s deep connection to plants/nature and love for outdoors activities like hiking and biking. A forest fire is likely to be a profoundly sorrowful/distressing experience in his eyes. I can’t imagine him feeling “high” on it unless it refers to being literally helpless (impaired and unable to react/mentally process for some reason) while something very meaningful/important to him crumbles/disappears/gets destroyed.

      Personally, from the spaces I'm in, I see more non-fans act like BTS should be on a pedestal, with how outrage they get at every little thing they do, while fans tend to defend their rights to being human.
      When fans call them perfect, I've always seen that done as hyperbole, bc of course, fans are wont to hype like that. But I don't really see any fans truly believe the guys have no flaws.

      on the other side people can get too extreme in defending members -- like people are allowed to feel how they feel, i've seen so much hate towards the ones feeling upset or disappointed, those are valid feelings and very much expected since the members have been fitting certain image and standards for about 10 years. it's great if you don't care and find it ridiculous and only care about their music, well then go on with your life and don't attack the ones with different feelings. What's with equaling disappointment, judgement and hate i don't understand. There are so many fans still admiring bts as "role models" as they say but at the same time at moments like this everyone is suddenly only caring about their music and defending bts from any negative feeling about them as if they are their children. There's a lot of immaturity masked as maturity.

      also about the smoking thing, i think the ones whose gone "mad" about it were gen public and media, bc they did frame him in a bad way. (not only rm, but other members has seen smoking too so i guess they kinda share the same statement of 'smoking kills i know its my fcking business' and he's speaking thru the album for the bts members). whenever a member has seen smoking, the public outrage gone crazy, especially from haters and also some of the fans whose against smoking. but a lot of army on twt side defend them for their choice. FUN FACT in this album theres a concept picture of him with smokes around him :) (like hes been smoking) also, the album is addressing a lot of "public expectations" on bts, like in Nuts, rm said ' (i'm) not a fucking diplomat'. theres no explanation from him yet but it can be interpreted as his reaction to how people expect him and bts to represent society/korea and do things for the people. but theyre only musicians, not people representations, not diplomats.

I honestly saw no hate towards members only a couple of expressions of disappointment and a hell of hate towards the ones who expressed their disappointment and them being told that the way they feel is "wrong" and you supposed to have full acceptance and unconditional love for the members otherwise you're a hater. • @shockofthenew
      @shockofthenew Před 2 měsíci +10

      Hmm, I'm not sure I agree. For sure, shallow fans and media are definitely targets of his criticism, but I think there's room for us to reflect on the fact that even us committed and genuine fans may not always be perfect, and may not always have a totally positive effect in everything we do, right? I think it's good for us as a fandom if we take the opportunity to admit we get things wrong, and look at how we can improve. Genuinely loving BTS doesn't mean you're incapable of hurting them or doing things they don't agree with.
      I mean they said very clearly in UGH:
      "Good intentions, bad intentions, they're all the same
      Sure you can get angry
      But if you cause harm to someone's life?
      I don't like that
      Stop."
      And yet there are still some die-hard ARMY who will take part in severely harassing and even trying to dox people who they feel have disrespected BTS, rather than just disagreeing, blocking and moving on. Some people are also happy to insult and drag other artists to get revenge on their fandoms.
      There are also some die-hard ARMY who 'love' the members but also project personal agendas onto them, trying to push them into certain things, or trying to re-write their history, inventing their own narratives, ignoring or painting over things the members have said. Or ARMY who express their 'love' for BTS by disregarding their boundaries and trying to peer into their private lives.
      In general I have tons of good things to say about ARMY, and I think most of us are really great people, but we're definitely not perfect (just as Bangtan isn't perfect) and we should be able to take some criticism!

      @shockofthenew I can agree with this, but I'm not sure if I'd take the insta pic incident to be a good highlight for it (personally, I saw more criticism from the fandom when Tae's pic first came out, but I also sae waaay more ppl were mad that his privacy was invade; for Joon, I didn't even see any criticism by ARMY except for complaints that how were using it to bash him).
      And tbf, whenever I see reports abt BTS backlash, it's always be presented as "their fans" leading the outraged when it's clearly not their fans (like the dumb thing with Frank Ocean). I wish we could normalize calling out haters first in the broader media sphere.
      I'm not saying there aren't those overcontrolling fans that need a reality check (mantis used to be more called out) or that individuals don't have a toxic moment or that we can't use this to check ourselves. But I just wouldn't say this incident was a fandom backlash to support this interpretation of the song. For that, I'd say a better example to call out ARMYs overstepping their bounds as fans would be if they called out this whole current BTS boycott movement from Scooter being CEO of Hybe America (which I would say is more closely related with Groin, of any track, with the diplomat line, which is giving me flashbacks on how ppl were acting during the BLM protests).

      @shockofthenew agree.

    • @shockofthenew
      @shockofthenew Před 2 měsíci +3

      @@em5522 Oh, I wasn't basing this on one insta pic but on a looong list of things I've seen throughout their career. These are general trends which have been around in the fandom since the beginning (though they did get more intense as their level of fame rose). The same kind of problems exist in every fandom honestly.
      I definitely know what you mean with the mislabeling of certain things as coming from 'ARMY' when in fact they were mainly led by solos or antis... we do get blamed for a lot of things which genuinely aren't our fault, or get misrepresented by lazy journalists who write narratives that never happened - e.g. "BTS fans shocked to learn the band will enlist in the military" or "BTS fans heartbroken to hear the band is breaking up" or "ARMY is uncomfortable with explicit lyrics" or "ARMY are convinced BTS have never been in relationships" etc... regular headlines which don't reflect reality at all, pure fantasy invented by the press to fit their biases, which then get accepted by passers-by who don't know any better. It's exhausting.
      Not to mention the amount of times some media person will insult BTS (including being openly bigoted), and they will get approximately 1500 very polite comments telling them that was disrespectful and asking them to apologise... and also 3 or 4 comments (usually from very young fans) expressing their anger violently. But the headline will be "ARMY sends mass death threats" with no acknowledgement of the vast, vast amount of reasonable comments, the relatively tiny amount of extreme ones, or the bigotry which caused this response in the first place.
      So I'm not denying that issue at all. But I still think ARMY as a whole has problems we need to address, which actually are coming from our own fandom culture... There's so much good stuff in there too and I don't want to just highlight the negatives, I could write a whole essay about all the wonderful aspects of ARMY culture! But I do think sometimes we have a tendency to downplay problems or immediately re-write it so the people doing the bad stuff weren't "real" ARMYs, when in fact they were.
      It's also an issue that the fandom is so vast and decentralised that there's no way to define exactly what ARMYs are like or what we believe - we're far too diverse for that. Most of the time when some group of ARMYs did something bad, I don't hear about it until after it's happened. It was outside my bubble, I don't know anyone involved, and none of the ARMYs I interact with approve of it, so there's not much I can do except speak up after the fact and say "hey, I don't agree with that..." but it feels like I'm preaching to the choir. I don't even know how to find or reach the kind of people who are actually doing those things.
      On another note, I don't necessarily agree with you about the boycotts, I think that's a very complex issue which doesn't fit the usual 'manager ARMY' situation. Manager ARMYs are more like the kind of people who keep pestering Jin about his acting debut, implying the company is holding him back, and send trucks to HYBE with his face on them (humiliating him), when he has clearly said several times that he's no longer interested in acting, and has to keep actively shutting those 'fans' down. Those are people who decided they know better than the members about what shape their careers should take, and invent narratives of "oh he's a poor little baby who can't make his own choices, I know better." (btw I just picked that one example but the same thing happens with every member's solo stans).
      On the other hand the Scooter Braun issue is political, it's conflicting with people's deeply held political beliefs, and it seems to conflict with the values BTS have expressed in the past. I may not think they're going about it the right way, especially because the BDS movement clearly state that organising your own boycotts undermines their aims(!!) and because apparently there's no legal basis to end someone's contract on political grounds, so what they're asking for might literally be impossible. I do think a fair amount of antis have attached themselves to that cause because it's a very convenient way for them to add to their long-term goals of trying to bring BTS down, and I do think some people are approaching it in a performative way... but I don't think everyone who's upset about Braun's involvement or who's choosing to personally boycott is a manager anti. Some of them are simply disappointed fans who feel this is something they can't support, and who are trying to communicate (loudly and publicly) to the BTS members that, while they still want to be fans, this issue is making it impossible for them. I'm not saying whether or not it's a good way of expressing that message, or whether it's fair considering we don't know what BTS' contractual situation is... and at the end of the day, perhaps those people should just give up on being fans rather than holding out for the impossible. But I think it's separate from the usual manager anti issue... rather than underestimating the members' ability to make their own decisions, they are perhaps overestimating it.
      As another example, think of times in the past when fans have spoken up about things they disagreed with - were they always manager antis? When early fans wrote letters talking about aspects of racism and misogyny, and expressing their disappointment in certain things, were they being manager antis? I don't think so. In fact I think they were (for the most part) doing a good job as fans by informing the members (often in a generous tone, coming from a friendly perspective) that some of their choices weren't quite right, and helping them to learn and grow in better directions. If early fans hadn't done that, and had just blindly supported everything, would we have ended up with the same BTS we have today?
      I'm not saying these boycotts are the same as that, or that every criticism people make of BTS is valid! In fact I think people generally criticise them far too much in completely unfair ways, and that ends up drowning out the few important issues it would be good for them to hear about. However I am saying it's not always a bad thing to criticise artists you love, it's not a matter of "praise everything they do without question" or else "be an anti who's trying to control and/or destroy them". There's definitely a healthy middle-ground.
      I think that narrative, where you must either praise and accept everything, or else be an anti who's trying to bring them down, is actually one of our biggest problems as a fandom. At its worst, that can lead us into some slightly cult-like thinking where questioning anything will get you labelled as an enemy, so people are afraid to speak up or have any kind of controversial opinion, and people who do have good points to make get harassed into leaving.
      Again, the above essay is definitely a generalisation, I know many ARMY are open-minded and perfectly capable of having nuanced conversations!! I'm just talking about the worst side of things, because I think accepting our flaws is what helps us improve, just as BTS becoming aware of their flaws has helped them improve. In fact the only reason I criticise the fandom is because I love it and I want us to be the best we can be!
      Anyway, sorry for another overly-long comment, I have a lot of thoughts about this! And thanks for being open to conversation :)

    Thank you for confirming for me that I am correct that Around in the World in a Day is the best song on this album. 🙂
    Also, RM will be released from the military on June 2025, as will Jimin, JK, V, and SUGA. It's expected that they will start with group focused activities at that time, though. Also, RM did do a performance - at Rollling Hall in Seoul for about 200 ARMY. Rolling Hall was his dream venue when he first started in the music industry. It was a part of his promotion for "Indigo."
    The short lengths of songs is going to kill the music industry in the end. Thanks TikTok. I hate that trend.

    Hi former bass clarinet player here just to clarify that on the album credits for Domodachi it is indeed a sax and not a bass clarinet. I thought it mightve been one at first too and was really excited but it sounds a little too brassy.
