hey there! im an artisan keycap maker and from my experience, curing clear resin (your second step - filling up the bottom) only require a very short amount of time (until its not tacky), or else it could shrink and lead to leakage to the front! save the long curing to the very last!
Oh wow that’s really helpful! Thank you so much!
Thank you for this tip! 🤩
I can't explain how happy it makes me to see a quality video without any dislikes. My soul cries tears of joy :')
Aw, thank you! I've come across videos where I can't understand how there's a dislike bar lol
There’s 2 dislikes 🥲
@@imsorryforarguingbut4555 oh nooo 😭
this is so cool! thanks for sharing
Thank you so much! 😄

Amazing, top-tier content! quick and to the point and beautiful results!
Thank you so much! :D
I've never resined before (always wanted to though!) but going down the mechanical keyboard rabbithole has lead me to believe now is as good a time as any to try it, and not just because I'm thoroughly addicted to custom keycaps. This video is such a great way to see the process. Thank you so much!
Thank you for watching! Yeah, this has actually led me to want to try to make a lot more custom keycaps and I'm hoping to make an entire set one day :D
Greetings from another freshly mechanical keyboard rabbitholer turned resin keycap maker 🤝🍻
These look so fun. Rocket ship Keycap is my favorite!
Thank you! Yeah the rocket ship is definitely my favorite, too!
Adding the glitter was a good choice. Looks neat :)
Thank you! :)
They're so pretty!
Thank you! :D
wow these came out so good
Thank you! :D
Great stuff !
Thank you! :D
amazing vid, helped me a lot, currently ordered the resin, uv light, pigment and silicone keycaps, thanks for the help
That's awesome, good luck with your project :D Let me know how it goes!
Can you be so kind to provide a part list and where you buy them from?
Thank you for sharing
You’re welcome 😊
Love it !
Thank you! ☺️
Those look amazing!!!
Thank you so much! :D
Earned a sub
Thank you so much!
Thats a nice tutorial, straight to the point regarding everythin!! Compliments! :)
Do you have any advise how I should google such tiny star, spaceship or any other kind of figures?
Thank you so much!
Here are the charms that I used in the video: amzn.to/3uFWrmc
I have everything else linked above in the description :)
NICE!!!!
Thank you! 😁
Crazy good. Just anyone watching this, please for the love of God, wear protective gloves and mask when working with resin.
Thank you so much! Also, yes, that’s super important! And make sure you’re in a well-ventilated area 😷
I want these lol
Maybe I'll do a giveaway for my subscribers in the future! :)
those huge gold pieces are AMAZING! also did you find that some silicone keycap molds work better than others? I keep hearing that some of them are good and others are really hard to align properly
Thank you! 😄 The molds I used for this video have the backings all attached together so they’re absolutely easier to align compared to other ones.
That's amazing! But are all keys the same size? How do you get a mold that matches the keyboard
Thank you! The silicone mold I'm using is the OEM keycap profile :) It's compatible with all mechanical keyboards that use Cherry MX switches/clones. Hope that helps!
I want to make resin keycaps too! You did a great job on them :) I've heard of UV resin spacebar warping as they cure though. Any tips and advice? It'll be my first time using UV resin. Also, how long did you cure them for total?
Thank you! Yes, UV resin does warp as it cures; it's mostly to do with the heat from the lamp paired with the silicone. I'm still trying to figure out myself how to make it so that the mold stays still during the curing process.
Thanks for replying! Im really excited for my resins to arrive :)) I'll give it a try and let you know if I find a way to stop it from warping hahaha
What are the golden objects in the keycaps called? Your work is fantastic!
I'm pretty certain those are nail art 3D "stickers". Tiny little decorations in thin plastic, cheap as dirt.
@@idahagglund524 Thank you for your help 😬
Here's what they are: amzn.to/3uFWrmc
I have everything else linked above in the description :)
Ooh, now that I see them in the image, I realize they're quite larger than nail stickers. (n_n;)
Hello!!
I found your video and it helped me a lot to make some keycap.
But i have a question. ¿What is the heat-gun that you used in the video?🥺
That’s awesome, I’m so glad this helped! I actually used a butane lighter to get rid of the air bubbles 😁
Heyyyy can I maybe ask what resin you use? The caps Look amazing!
Hi! Thank you so much! I used UV resin 😊 It’s so fun and so easy to use
Should i use epoxy resin or do i have to use the one that you put uv light on?
You could use epoxy resin if you want! It'll just take a bit longer to finish them because UV resin is more instant when it comes to curing.
Stumbled on your channel recently, and was wondering what would happen if you use EPOXY resin, instead of UV Resin for this? Will it destroy or mess up the Epoxy resin when exposed to UV Light?
Putting epoxy resin under UV light actually would make it yellow :( Also, the resin won’t react the way UV resin does. You could still use epoxy resin if you want to, it’s just gonna take longer to cure.
That seemed so easy! And question, is it possible to put varying colors after each layer the resin is set, or would putting too many varying shades create a muddled color? I'm wondering if there could be a well-defined color gradient by using this fast setting UV resin and some patience, and if so I know what I'm getting myself this xmas lol
I haven't tried that method myself but that sounds cool! I might have to give that a go and see how it turns out :D I think because it's easier to set and cure it with a UV light, you can get a more defined gradient.
I purchased everything you have in this video. And followed each step, but am noticing when I pull them out from the mold, the back comes off and the middle is still a bit wet. I tried a second.time with more.time under the UV light and same result, still wet when I pull out from the mold. Maybe I used.to many color drops in my. Mix?
Yeah, if you add too many color drops, it can get soft. Also, if you use darker colors, it takes a bit longer to fully cure since it’s harder for the UV light to pass all the way through and solidify right away. I’d suggest starting off by using less pigment and see how that goes :) Good luck and let me know if that works!
May you tell about the condition of these keycaps now? i am interested how is UV resin stronger for rubbing resitance than epoxy if use them daily
Hey! What I see is that they've been holding up pretty well since making them. I don't see any yellowing or major scratches. Hope that helps!
can you put a link to the uv resin that you use? also the light?
Hi! I have both the resin and the light linked in the description 😊
What keyboard do you recommended for these keys can you add a link for amazon or something
Any mechanical keyboard that uses Cherry MX switches or Cherry MX clones would work just fine, it doesn’t have to be anything fancy! Here’s a good cost-efficient example: amzn.to/3QEAYHV
Hope that helps!
Hiii. I'm trying to make my own resin keycaps, but i don't understand why my resin still sticky in the outside even though i cured it for long time. Any suggestion?? :( I wonder if it was the quality of the resin that i use or what. Thankyouuu
Hi! Did you use UV resin like I did, or did you use epoxy resin? Epoxy resin usually takes about 72 hours to cure if that's what you used. On the other hand, UV resin should cure much faster especially in sunlight. Also using a lot of pigment could affect how long it takes to cure. Hope that helps! :)
Hello! Any remedy for a sticky resin keycap? I bought it from an online store and I'm too nice to complain lol 😬
Hi! Usually the only way to fix sticky resin is recoating it with a thin layer of properly mixed resin. If you’d rather not do all of that, then maybe you should request an exchange for a new keycap :( Hope that helps!
@@SerendipityChannel91 I see. Thank you so much! 💓
Hi! Why is the curing method necessary?
Hi, so sorry for the late reply! It’s to ensure that the keycaps do not leave a sticky residue and so that resin with darker pigments can cure fully :)
They sound better than plastic
Thank you! I was pleasantly surprised at how they sounded in the end 😄
Any news on how to make the spacebar work yet? 🥺
The only problem for me was the piece warping and if I use regular resin, then it would fix that. It just takes longer :)
@@SerendipityChannel91 How do we use regular resin?? Also under the UV light? Because in the comments I’m reading you have to wait for a day. But also people talk about hardener and everything it seems complicated. Isn’t it just one bottle just like yours in the video? Do you mind making a video on the spacebar again?
How does yours cure so quick. I’ve had it under the light for 5 minutes and it’s still incredibly runny
Oh no, did you add too much pigment? 🙁
@@SerendipityChannel91 I haven’t added any yet. It’s just resin and hardener
@@suspectshot2199 hmm are you using regular resin, or UV resin?
@@SerendipityChannel91 most likely regular. Do you have a UV brand you could recommend?
I do! This is the brand I use: amzn.to/2MLqcRt
I have everything that I used listed in the video description as well.
You could use regular resin but it does take longer to cure. I highly recommend UV resin for keycap designs like this. Good luck with your project! :)
what paint do you use?
I used epoxy resin pigment which you can find here: amzn.to/2O7Ktko
Hope that helps!
what resin are you using
I'm using UV resin that you can find here: amzn.to/2MLqcRt
@@SerendipityChannel91 thank you so much 😃
I cured mine after putting the back mold for 6 minutes. The resin is still soft. I don't know what I did wrong. I used an Epoxy resin and Hardender (this is a single bottle) I supposed it is a resin combined with a hardener? But I'm really confused why it didn't hardened. Please help.
Oh, epoxy resin usually takes a day or two to fully cure. Even with a hardener, I would still allow it to sit for at least 24 hours.
@@SerendipityChannel91 Thank you for noticing my comment! This is noted! So, I found out that I was missing an ingredient for it which is the hardener. But, thank you for this info! Would it still be a problem if you use it within a day? or are you just curing it for a day to make it safe?
@@dunkplays9797 I would cure it for a day to be on the safe side, especially if you use darker ink pigments since those tend to take a bit longer :)
@@SerendipityChannel91 I see! So, it kind of depends also with what color you used. What if I'm only using the clear epoxy resin? Should it still be cured for a single day?
@@dunkplays9797 with clear epoxy resin, I would say you’d still want to wait 24 hours. If you use any pigments, more than 24 hours just to be safe - depends on how much pigment you use. Hope that helps!
A woman, unlike other women, has mechanical keyboard as her hobby, more than that she makes new keycaps on camera.
a rare and creative type of woman
Beware of mechanical keyboard rabbit holes
Oh believe me, I have some pretty big ideas for custom keycaps that I'll be showing eventually! :D
I love how everybody in the keyboard spaces loves to use the "wow" effect in their videos, but have no idea where it comes from. I saw the source material before it became a trend and I'm telling you, I'm so sick of that sound effect by now, lol.
Yeah, I agree lol But it’s so effective 🤣
@@SerendipityChannel91 I suppose it is 😫
