I remember a story about Tony where he was asked why he played so loud. He said, "Why do people ask that question? They're drums! No one ever asks a trumpet player why they're so brassy or a flute player why they play high notes". I thought it was priceless.

I saw Tony playing with his group Lifetime at Shellys Manhole in Hollywood I think around 1974 sat
right up in the front next to his drums. I had never heard anybody play the drums like he did it really inspired me as I went out several days later and purchased a drum set like he had on the stand what an experience still think about it to this day

Yes.. here they're mostly playing songs from the "Native Heart" album, released 1990. A shame nothing from "Angel Street" which came out in 88 and has some of my favorite Tony Williams compositions. But yes he's right up there with the best composers. Wish there was more live footage of him doing stuff from "Angel Street".

No apparently about it , Cooper ! I "stole" a pair of Tony's sticks when he played Ronnie Scott's in September '89 . They are a 2B with a later taper than standard - and every cymbal , regardless of weight or size , is a Fast Crash cymbal !

It's incredible to just imagine what it would be like to play in a band with Tony WIlliams! How much he would inspire you and kick your ass. The Miles quintet of the 60's was of course an astounding band in terms of all-around talent but in my view, way more than 1/5th of that band was Tony WIlliams.
