- Today, I am talking to Trevor Noah. Trevor is the most successful comedian in Africa and is the host of the Emmy and Peabody Award-winning “The Daily Show” on Comedy Central. Under Trevor, “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah” has broken free from the restraints of a 30-minute linear show, producing engaging social content, award-winning digital series, podcasts and more for its global audience. He has written, produced, and starred in 11 comedy specials, including his most recent, “Trevor Noah: Son of Patricia,” which launched in November 2018 on Netflix. Wow, you should look for groups maybe on meet-up app. They're are lots of groups that you could join. There are hiking, spiritual, etc. Also there are addiction groups of all kinds to join. We need others who we feel comfortable with to share with.
I work in retail so I meet a lot of people and I've had a lot of deep conversations with people like this! If you are a people person and want to connect with others working in customer service can be very rewarding.

I have 4 sons. I'll consider myself a successful mother if they turn out with Trevor Noah's character traits. I want them to have his empathy, compassion, understanding, wisdom, and ability to see humor in life.

I grew up in the south, but in a different era than my mom and dad and I still will not want to go thru the challenges of growing up to accomplish his success.
We as people sometimes want what someone else has, but if we knew their trials and sacrifices made to get it, we’ll say, “Oh no, forget it. I don’t want it!”
If U are a believer in Christ Jesus, pray and ask God to give all 4 of your sons those characteristics traits; and to give to U as well, if U don’t have them; but a couple of those requests are taught and learned behaviors.

@@linawiers4715 Wise. We have to be careful what we ask for. We just might get it and in ways we didn't want. I know something of that. The hand of God is mighty.
I will add that we do have to remember as parents to allow our children their own challenges and hurdles to overcome, whatever they may be. We mustn't think loving them means giving them everything we didn't get or sparing them hardships of various kinds. Just be there as a guide or to help them recover, hopefully, better for the lesson. And for those reading along, I'm not talking about standing back and letting extreme things happen to our children, lest anyone go there. We are, of course, to protect our children as best as we can and when necessary, but only when appropriate to the age and developmental ability of each child. Then the question comes, "How do we do this?" Perhaps like you, I learned the discernment needed for this kind of parenting by studying and practicing biblical principles.🙌🏽 I made no important decisions that impacted my son's life without prayer and consulting the Holy Spirit.

This aging Vietnam Vet feels grateful that somehow I found this discussion with Trevor & Jay. It made me look deeper into myself, the good, bad and ugly and how I can become a better human being. A very challenging time over the last several years that has tested all of us. Feel more than ever that kindness, love, truly listening to others can break down the walls between completely diverse people on this small planet of ours.
Maybe our generation had to grow old in order to grow up!!

Two lessons I’ve learnt from this episode:
1) I need to reevaluate my safety net and determine whether certain parts of myself that I’m holding onto are actually holding me back.
2) In order to learn and understand others, it is necessary to let go of self.

I totally understand Trevor's ability to handle chaos better than calm.
Trevor is self-aware, insightful, mindful, and empathic. To move and grow in life, it's essential that you let go of some things, but it is scary; especially when it is something familiar. Learning how to ask thoughtful questions can result in conversations that go beneath the surface that can promote enlightenment (for the person asking and the person answering the question). Great interview!

When Jay expressed his purpose in life, I felt it. I receive from his interviews exactly what he described on this interview and I never had an idea that it was his purpose. All of those perspectives help me amplify my view of things and even shape them for better. Jay is phenomenal and this interview is great because both of them have such beautiful and optimistic views of life that I love to soak it all in.❤️❤️

What has stuck with me from the podcast is much; however, Trevor shares how he views being grateful, and not being grateful for the traumatic event, but grateful for what was learned and how he grew from the experience. It was truly eye opening to hear what "safe" meant to Trevor and to realize that safety and what it means to be safe is so different for each person. I am a teacher, so this was very necessary for me to hear and understand as it will allow me to further reach and teach my students understanding that their primary need (to be safe) means something different to each and every one of them. Thank you for being fertilizer in my life Trevor!
I would love to hear what you have to say about integrating that into your classroom. If one child finds safety and therefore an ability to learn in chaos while their classmate finds it in solace, can you ever teach a successful lesson or are you doomed to create 2 of everything for the sake of necessary accomodation?

Most people can't receive love; so refreshing that Jay understands this. It can be challenging & even lonely being a deep thinker & I believe whenever we deep thinkers all scattered about the globe find another kindred spirit, even if they're on YT, TV, an author of a book, or whatever we'll feel that unspoken connection over the distance & airwaves even if it is in one direction, you know you're not alone. We truly are in a unified field.

We hold comedians and other artists in such high regards, that we sometimes don’t think about them as being lonely, ( call me naive if you must). It is so important to have close friends, that understands who you are, and you can totally be yourself with. This was a wonderful interview thank you for sharing ❤❤❤❤.

I've always been a really really really big fan of stand up comedy, like to the point that I would rather watch a stand up that I've seen a hundred times than watch anything else 😂😂😂 so of course I love to watch their interviews. Roy Wood Jr actually talked about being lonely after a live show in 2020 when a lot of the celebrities were doing the "ask me anything" highlight on IG? Roy Wood Jr decided he was going to ask the questions and post people's answers on his highlights and one of them was about being lonely after a show. I remember thinking about Robin Williams when I read Roy's highlight...
I never thought about that after the show let down. I just assumed they partied with a bunch of random people. I know alot of comedians have inner pain or a hard life they use humor to cope
I have never felt more relatable to Trevor then I do now.
This was such a good conversation between you two, opened a lot more avenues that I need to reflect on in my own life.

Mom was a single parent , 5 kids ,now being 67 yrs ,growing up on welfare ,playing street games ,no exams tree ,due each child given a gift ,an a cake on each birthday,an not realized we were undepriveliged ,been grateful for everything. Mom always had music playing even when we had chores.loving home ,spirituality was always on the agender .starting with Sunday school. Pleased to say were all doing ok ,Mom an dad have passed on .I personally I have great memories. xxxx

I would love to hear Trevor talk more about how he manages his ADHD. I'm a therapist who made assumptions about people with that diagnosis. Not good ones. Trevor has changed my perspective. He could help so many to feel better about themselves. I would never have guessed he has that diagnosis.
Me too! Because I have ADHD and its been incredibly challenging. Wish I hadn't been misdiagnosed for years and years whenever I attempted to seek help.
One's success in managing ADHD is greatly influenced by one's emotional maturity and mental development.

I used to be a fan to Trevor Noah as a comedian, but now I am amazed also by the other side of his personality as a person, this interview is on a very different level, thank you for sharing
This was such a great conversation about how to be open to our identity changing. I loved how Trevor stressed that we don't have to glorify our trauma but we can use the lessons to teach us and ground us❤.
I was a psychotherapist for 30 years and I can fully relate to being seen in only one dimension. A few times in those years a client wanted to be friends after their therapy ended. They could not handle or relate to 360° of me and likewise I could not connect with the whole of them.
Where people may want/expect Trevor to be funny all the time, my clients thought I would be wise about everything all the time. Perception of people sets the path for the connection or lack of connection.
The conversation between the two of you was enlightening and special. Thank you.

I disagree. I never suggested a friendship and carefully evaluated the client when they asked to be friends and an appropriate amount of time had elapsed after therapy ended.I have ex clients that became my long term friends.

We tend to fill an emotional void with something. For some people it is drugs, sex, food, work and countless other things. Recognizing the void is the first step, talking about it out loud with others is the next step. The third step is to try something other than our chosen fix. It will most likely feel strange and unsatisfying in the beginning. But stay with and try several things until something clicks a bit. It takes about two weeks to form a new habit. Be patient with your self, the emotional void you feel is painful. 🌷

This whole podcast with Trevor and Jay was so wholesome, the part where these guys discussed taking up the role of the "Peacemaker" and how your seatbelt can also become your trapping made me tear up at how much it was resonating with me. I also liked how they discussed the mind and that we really need to understand these concepts surrounding our minds more. But some moments like how thoughtful Trevor's answers were at the end had me feeling giddy at the same time. And the explanation of how society is designed for the 'normal' was also very eye-opening. This was phenomenal to watch.

One of the best episodes yet, so grateful for this podcast. If you haven't read Trevor's book "Born a Crime" highly recommend it, especially the audio version. It's like he's sitting there telling you his life's story over coffee.

I loved that Trevor said he hopes to be fertilizer to enrich the soil. I must say both Trevor and Jay have provoked many thoughts by asking the questions they have and sharing their perspectives on topics. I am grateful for this. I personally took away alot of understanding from this interview about why I myself interact in the world the way I do and how I want to proceed.
