All gone now save from the ends of a couple of runways and a tiny bit of taxiway. What a shame, all that history gobbled up by our need for housing and retail parks. gijock@btinternet.com Graham Innes

Walked that remaining section of runway and fuel loop a few weeks back. Nice to see the fuel delivery stanchion was still intact. Plans to build on even that I'm afraid. Thank you for doing your bit to preserve the memories of these places.

Yes it would be impossible to preserve all, or even parts of all 700 or so airfields. Rising populations and demand for housing, retail and industrial sites dictate many of their futures. Photography is the best way to preserve these important stations. As long as I can walk, I will record!. Glad you like them.

Was this what became the "Grain Store" on Water Lane - now the Aldi and some humongously ugly storage facility?
Here's the remains of the runway as of January 2023: czcams.com/video/ZcqasXqmoeI/video.html

Always a shame when you see these historic places just abandoned like this. Even bigger shame when they plan to build blooming houses on them!

Not much atmosphere or history there now. Shame! Still, if you like Aldi, its perfect. All our rich history disappearing!
