Will NEVER understand how this movie was ever considered a "flop"!!
Easy: it was released in JULY! And if that wasn't stupid enough, it was in the same week as Spielberg's Jurassic Park.
It flopped during release. So it will always be considered a flop. Its a cult classic now which means it developed a fanbase well after release.

Instead of releasing it in October they released it in July.

I think she meant the fact that it was probably surprising that such a huge star would go for a roll in "such a silly Disney movie" of course at the time it was filmed, no one knew the success this movie would have.

He was the voice of the human version too which makes you wonder why they didn't have him play the part entirely.

I'm so damn glad that Ms. Midler is the kind of woman who did NOT think that a movie like Hocus Pocus was beneath her! She is an amazing icon and I adored all 3 of the sisters! A great movie that is not a tradition in my home at halloween time

You missed one of Kathy Najimy's most prominent movie roles in two films: as Sister Mary Patrick in Sister Act (1992) and its sequel (1993).

@@kimscott9580 Even though Sean Murray, the actor who played human Binx, was originally meant to voice Binx, the producers decided to dub his voice because he sounded too contemporary, and Binx needed to sound more like someone from the 1600s. That's why Jason Marsden dubbed Sean's scenes and voiced him in cat form.

You forgot that Omri Katz starred in "Eerie, Indiana" in the 90s. It was like a young adult version of The X-Files.
i was just about to post this, seems like they forgot quite a few notable roles for the people on the list and they didn't include Binx the cat (Jason Marsden)
Jason's omission was not cool. They also left out Vinessa Shaw's role in Eyes Wide Shut and didn't mention anything about Larry Bagby (Ernie). I know they can't cover everything but they should at least hit the major points.
I remember about that show! Was it scary? I never watched it as kid, cuz I was afraid it would be.
+Jennifer Loving It wasn't a horror series as much as it was a fantasy/sci-fi/mystery series. It even had humor. Many stories were based around urban legends. Tobey Maguire was a guest star playing a ghost. I LOVED the show and have the entire series on dvd. Still watch my favorite eps a few times a year.
He was also in "Adventrous in Dinosaur City" !!! That was a good one too haha...... kinda wanna watch that one now too

You forgot to mentioned the two biggest roles in the Beth Middler's carrier : in "The rose" (1979) and "For the boys" (1991). Underrated movies. She deserves an Oscar for both dramatic interpretations. Brilliant performing, including impecable singing.
Bette had a LOT of input with how she wanted Winifred to look, and has also voiced Georgette in Oliver and Company (Another Disney movie), so to think such a company is beneath her is stupid to assume. She played such an iconic role!
She has also lobbied for a sequel to Hocus Pocus for years and considers it one of the best roles she played. The reason Hocus Pocus 2 is happening is primarily due to her.

You missed one of Thora Birch's most prominent movie roles after Hocus Locus: as Liz Murray in the Homeless to Harvard: The Liz Murray Story (2003) movie. She was amazing in it.

Hocus Pocus is one of my favourites to watch at Halloween and love Bette Midler.
it may have been a 'silly' movie for Midler to do, but she has gone on to embrace the character of Winifred Sanderson, often playing her when the occasion allows

Doug Jones Also played the lead Gentlemen in the episode "Hush" of Buffy.
He also played the ice cream demon dude in the movie "Legion" and a wendigo on the short running horror series "Fear Itself" and he's played in lots more horror movies that are good but didn't make it to the big screen.
Omg The Gentlemen were so creepy!!!! One of the few monsters from Buffy that creeped me out. Their makeup was so good!!!

@@morticiaadams272 Maybe he likes playing characters with prosthetics. It's similar to how a lot of Andy Serkis' work has been with motion capture rather than his actual self. He does it and does it well.

I think that might be because a lot of people don't know about Eerie, Indiana? On the other hand, I've never seen Gravity Falls, but my kids have and are big fans and I told them that the shows creator was influenced by E,I and now they're interested in watching it 😊

The Pregnancy Pact really is based on real stuff. My older brothers-from-another-mother grew up in the town where it all happened. Even though they went to a different high school their mom remembers reading about what happened in the newspaper. It was truly awful.
Yes but the guy from the channel Cynical Reviews made a video about this movie, the thing is the movie twisted those real events in order to make a moral message story even if they said this movie was only based on it and it´s a different story it feels like they want to have it both-ways and they don´t even show how awful it was for those girls, actually the movie romanticizes teen pregnancy more than problematizes it no one complains about the physical consequences of pregnancy (except for one scene when a girl gives birth and had many stitches because she tore badly), the thing is in real life there was no "pregnancy pact", 18 girls in a school in Massachusetts got pregnant in the same year but there was no agreement between them, it was just a crazy coincidence and in the following year it because a mediatic circus

Hocus Pocus may have been a silly movie in several ways, but it's a beloved classic for a reason. Also, Bette Midler was perfect for that role; no one could have played Winifred Sanderson better!

Doug Jones is also one of the Gentlemen in Buffy's famous Hush episode AND Guillermo Del Toro always has a part for Doug. Doug played a ghost in Crimson Peak. Gotta love him.
You missed Jason Marsden. He was Binx the Cat. Sean Murray was not. Also Omri Katz? Who the hell that loved Hocus Pocus watched Dallas as a kid? We did however watch Eerie, Indiana a show starring him. He was the only actor I knew before the movie.

I was watching the 2017 Tony awards live when Bette Midler won her Tony for “Hello Dolly”, but I never realized that was her first ever Tony win!
This is just my blowing because I didn’t know some of them stared in certain movies and The Walking Dead. A big thank you to Miss Midler for making our childhood epic

This was wonderful, and I just rewatched the movie for the millionth time, so it was well-times as well. But I do think that you should have mentioned the guy from Step By Step/Aladdin as being the voice of Binks.

I think she meant the fact that such a big celebrity would star in a "silly Disney movie" I don't think she was trying to call the movie itself silly. Bette was the biggest star in the movie at the time and when it was filmed, no one knew it was going to be extremely successful

Unfortunately the actor who portrayed Dani and Max's father passed away.
Fun fact, I was actually born in 1993 on the day that this movie, Hocus Pocus, was released as well as Free Willy. So while those two movies were playing up on the big screen on July 16th, 1993 I had just entered this world. :) Very surreal to believe. Lol, yet I never really saw those two films much in my life ironically.
I remember when my dad realized Mcgee was the same guy who played Thackeray I was so upset that he figured it out before I did.
Also Jason Marsden from Boy Meets World, Static Shock, Justice League animated series dubbed the dialogue for Sean Murray.

Stephany Faracy is most known for the 80’s movie “The Great Outdoors”, and they didn’t even mention it in her credits.
For Honorable Mentions, you should’ve also mentioned Jason Marsden (the voice of Binx). He was in a various live action shows like “Step by Step” and “Full House” as well as having many voice acting roles on stuff like “The Fairly OddParents”, “Star Wars: Jedi Knight III: Jedi Academy”, and “Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue”. And of course, he was also the voice the teen/young adult version of Goofy’s son Max in various Disney projects!
