That moment when you have walked through an entire 10 kilometer egg...
And it hatches a shit Pokémon.
Now I know how my mother felt…
I got a damn eevee from a 10km egg >.>
No joke I hatched 4 10 kilometer eggs total and got three onix and one eevee
bahahahaha! dude roasted himself

The worst I can get from a 10km egg is a Pinsir.
I've seen more Pinsir (50) than Spearow (27).

It's kind of fun to look back at these old videos of Nick just playing the game and explaining stuff. Nothing more, nothing less. Actual trainer *tips*.
I'm from the future. Try watching these videos now!
Nick, in the show, the clefairy worship the moon. In PokemonGo the pokedex says that "On every night of a full moon, groups of this Pokemon come out to play." The full moon is VERY soon. Could you do a video to see if that is true?
Nick, please see this!!
that would be so cool
Nick, I will smack you if you don't make a video on this!
That could be one of the easter eggs of Niantic :O

Why do you even care about the movesets for pokemon such as butterfree..
Btw. Niantic totally needs to add like a 15 candy fee to reroll movesets.
And also a way to take a pokemon out of a gym without it being taken.. My garydos has been stuck in a suburb park for weeks.
AirDamian1999 That or youll get the gym and the pokestops removed.. I appreciate the sentiment though.
AirDamian1999 People just report complaints about pokestops/gyms and then they get removed. If you go on the pokemon go subreddit theres tons of posts where people are complaining about how there pokestops got removed etc.
agreed
One thing I wish existed is that you get more candies for transferring an evolved Pokemon
Sodium That too! for sure. Transferring AND catching imo.
i just wanted to tell you how much i really enjoy watching your channel. you really have great content and you always have great information on a particular subject. i know these videos take alot of time to produce,, so i wanted to say thank you for all your hard work!!! keep the great content coming!!! From all your Pokemon friends on the East Coast. Cape Cod, Ma.
love the videos as well as your reactions to some evolutions 😅 keep it up, I'm learning a lot!
You should test a theory to see if it is more effective to use an incense and a lure at the same time, or should we just use them seperately? So I love your vids man keep it up!
i like the wind noise, it feels very comforting; keep it there if u ever film at the balcony again.
Thank you for the stunning background noise and calm commentary, genuinely so easy to listen to and watch. Cheers man
Pretty much exactly how I was selecting my winners and keepers. But always wondered if there was something I'm missing. This video confirms that at least I'm in a proper mindset for future training. Thanks for what you do!!!
NIck, I found that the high IV pokemon I find typically have poor move sets, and the lower IV pokemon typically have better move sets. Maybe the game was programmed like that to help balance pokemon? Something to look into
+Mohamed Dief This assumes Niantic had any clue what they were doing when coding moves. From the way certain moves were so overpowered compared to others at launch, it's safe to say they didn't even consider which moves were better than others as a means of balance.
+Trainer Tips plz read Eliza petty's suggestion
+Trainer Tips I've been doing my own research and found that eggs from pokestops only drop once per week per stop. Like they have a 1 week timer till they drop again. Something to test out and maybe mention.
+Taylor Kroll i hit up the same pokestops each day and get eggs eggs pretty consistently, maybe just because drop rate is so low
i agree
hey nick! ive been searching your channel up in the search bar since the game came out and because you put so much effort into your videos, I think its about time to subscribe! ;)

I can't thank you enough for all these tips, man. Keep it uppp 😱 (also, nice filming skills) \m/
Thanks for your channel and advice. I'd be a little skeptical about IVs and here's why...
I just evolved a load of pokes on a lucky egg. I'd carefully shifted them first based on IV, trying for over 90%, but settling for over 80. One thing I noticed, as you say, was the move-set really outweighed the IV. With limited stardust, so did the starting CP. I kind of wished I didn't pay so much attention to IV in the first place, as aside from pokes from eggs, those with excellent IVs didn't generally get good move-sets and I think I'd thrown away some potentially really good ones. (This is easier to revise with things like Psyduck or Eeevee, that are easy to evolve straight to something powerful without needing too much candy).
So here is my theory - could IV sometimes be really high to compensate for a poor move-set, to balance what would otherwise be weaker pokemon? In a mass-appeal game like this, they couldn't afford for people to to put all their time and effort (and maybe even money) into leveling up inherently bad pokemon, so maybe poor move-sets often have high IVs and possibly good move-sets poorer ones, though not necessarily bad ones. Most players can't be expected and are in fact actively discouraged from going into the IV issue, so they can't design the game for those who choose to anyway. Now of course it may all be completely random and my theory is wrong. There could still be the rare perfect IV and perfect moveset pokemon out there. But still, searching for perfect IVs is a distraction from move-sets and can lead to a disappointing experience, especially if you can't get the monster again easily.
So what to do? More research is needed, but for now I'll put starting CP and having egg origins before IV and keep average IV ones, but still throw out those with poor IV. Why? Because in the long term, it may have some value, especially if there is head-to-head combat. I imagine that will have a lot more balancing to make it playable and weaker move-sets will be much more usable, perhaps even IV differences won't be counted, who knows? In fact, there could even be more balancing generally in gameplay to help pokemon with seemingly poor move-sets, or better still the ability to learn new moves.
+Gideon Davidson I answered this in another comment, but since you took the time to write such a well-thought out theory, I'll answer here as well.
The idea that bad movesets are meant to balance out with good IVs assumes that Niantic had any clue what they were doing when it came to creating moves. The state of imbalance among moves at launch says to me that Niantic didn't even consider DPS when deciding how much damage each move would deal or how long the animations would be. I think the community's early outcry about how broken some moves were was the first time Niantic even thought about it.
It seems to me that balance is the last thing on their minds right now. Aiming their attempts at creating balance between Pokémon of the same species is a terrible idea compared to improving balance among all species of Pokémon.
That said, I've stated before that Niantic is weak when it comes to game design, so if that is in fact their intention, they're doing it all wrong. But for now, I think it was just a string of bad luck. There are plenty of examples of people having Pokémon with both high IVs and good movesets.
Thanks for the fast response! It seems from what you're saying that they thought in terms of short/middle/long special moves only, not realising that dps would make the long, powerful moves generally the only desirable ones, except for some very powerful medium-length ones? That does seem to be the case. A lot of this is down to the AI defender strategies, though, which I'm sure will be updated. They definitely want the game to flow and give newbies a chance, but with the serious players making the backbone of the game they have to respect their strategies and effort, too.
As for the IVs, I did see some other successes with high IV evolutions on CZcams so you're right, that happens, too. Perhaps the best attributes are rarer, or just random? The thing is, I'd just read some accounts of people getting twister even three times in a row evolving from magicarp with near perfect IVs and it made me wonder. I myself got dragon pulse, which isn't too bad, on a 90% one and with such an evolution, I wonder if another magicarp I had with slightly higher CP would have been better or worse? But unless it's Niantic actually trying to punish people for accessing the data, that is the random number generator for you...
All I know is, I'll just use it to eliminate the weak ones, not to find perfect ones, as I'm not sure how useful (or reliable) the info is and I'll focus more on finding higher CP ones to evolve from first. It's too much to worry much about right now (for me). More farming and leveling up! As for Niantic, I hope they give us a way to learn more move-sets, or make the lesser ones more meaningful. Right, they should improve the balance between species first.
Anyway thanks so much for taking time to get back and thanks for your amazing vids from Hawaii, what a place to hunt Pokemon!
+Gideon Davidson dang i wanna read what your saying but way to long for me🙄
Ha ha! Well okay in short- there seems to be a lot of cases of high IV pokemon evolving with poor move-sets (like in this video), so I'm wondering if there is some connection, or it's really just the RNG? I wondered if one is to balance the other in some way. Certainly, move-sets are much more important, so I won't pay too much attention to IV myself, except for not evolving the monsters with low IVs.
If you want the perfect pokemon as of today then you need to check its IV 1st (ideal 100%), then evolve to max, after evolving to max you need to get the perfect move sets; ideally the most DPS (damage per second) moves. After you have 100% IV and perfect moves, then you upgrade. Then you also need to be Dragonite.
I like how you edit your videos and all the useful data you gave us. Thanks!
Thank you so much for sharing this with us. Always wondered whether I should Max out CP before evolving. You've saved a lot of star dust and candies of players!

Best Pokemon Go videos on CZcams. You guys rock. What about doing a Q and A video where you guys take questions from people on here and twitter?
You need to make a updated version of this video
to save time when evolving using an egg, i put a 1 at the begging of their name and go to a-z. it puts all the ones u can evolve first so u can evolve a few more with saved time. around 65 and up atleast 2 a minute...
This is such a clear and informative video. Nice one, Nick.
Are you looking at your move sets in terms of Defense as well? Some move sets that are considered bad for attacking a gym might be great for defending it.
Hey Professor Nick @TRNRtips. So in my area ponyta is not a common Pokemon to find but accidentally I came upon a spot in like a grassy area where ponyta keeps spawning. I'll say i ran into it 4 out of 6 times going there. But it's not a nest because it's only the one spot and only that spot. And it's not usually on my radar. So I just go up to it and have it pop up. Why do you think ponyta keeps spawning there?
Nick, can you do a follow-up to this video? I am still wondering if I should evolve before investing in powering up or if I should invest in powering up before evolving. Especially with modern day Pokemon GO game play. Hope you see this and can address this in a new short video. Thanks for all your videos and your involvement in the Pokemon GO community.
nick thanks a lot for all tips! you're the best! you deserve better evolves!
Now it doesn't really matter the moveset as long as you're over level 25, because now from raids you can get TMs
To find their IV's do you power them up so you can get a more accurate answer because poke assistant normally gives several options unless you power your pokemon up?
I like how you don't have click bait and get straight to the point. Congrats you got yourself a subscriber and keep up the good work
You do really nice shots with your camera, great vids, my friend. Keep it up!
I can't wait till you hit 1mil and then ppl like me will be like "remember when he was at 150k."

True. I was here when GO came out. He had about 1k subs at that point. Insane growth
Haha yeah. Power it up to max and then evolve. Get an Arcanine with insane CP with moves like Bite and Bulldoze XD
Always listen to Nick.
lol i was here at 30k
No the Pokemon go craze is winding down
You should do a test where u and a friend evolve the same Pokemon and see if u get the same move sets. By same pokemon, i mean the same one u caught.
Glad to see your channel is doing so well Nick. Can you please do a video explaining XS vs XL. Is there any relation or indication of what potential a Pokemon has based on XS or XL?
Love your vids! Funny and informative!!!
anyone else notice when you evolve a pokemon with good move sets. it evolves into something with worse moves....
It is really unfortunate that there weren't TM's back then...you would be thrilled with your Rhydon these days
dude you are gonna grow so much in a few months, thanks for the great tips
This video perfectly answers a question I never asked but will actually help a lot lol. Good vid
godonlyknows13 now we have tms in the game, moves can be changed
I just evolve and train the first pokemon i caught of every species as i give them a emotional value. However i also try to get a second pokemon of each species if the first one is not good and power up both. For example my Lapras has second worst moveset but about 80-90% Ivs Still i will power it up. Also I still hope I will catch A Mr.Mime.
If you have a fast or charged TM you can change your moveset. Idk if you had that ability 4 years ago tho
i got a 98% perfect tentacool from an egg that is lvl 9.5 im level 22 almost 23 and finally have enough to evolve
also got a 98% magikarp egg and like 300 away from evolving :(
they need to rework the cp so all final stage evolved pokemon are valid in fighting, not just 10
Thanks for the videos you make
I've been watching you ever since you had 10K subs and look at you now! 415K! You've quickly grown, you'll be at 1M in no time! I'm proud for you :)
Where do you find the list with the best move sets?
I love how now it doesn't matter so much because of TMs
Hey Nick, new to your channel love your tips and style keep up the good work! :)
Thanks for the tips!
I'm still trying to figure this out, so for example the Rhydon evolution at 2:46 was said to have perfect IV's but only evolved to CP 1281.
The Arch Potential looks like it has about 15% more you can power up which would make it around 1500 CP max.
So if IV's at max doesn't give you the potentials of over 2k CP like I always see in the Gyms, what determines it?
+Ty Budd Perfect IVs means it will have the highest possible CP when fully powered up (level 41.5). Right now it's only level 20, but it will have higher CP than any other level 20 Rhydon.
+Ty Budd Seems like you're confused with the fact that max CP is different for each species. A perfect IV Rhydon will max out at 2243.22. A max Dragonite caps at 3500.06. It's just a better pokémon than Rhydon, period.
Unless you actually meant that you see a lot of 2k+ Rhydon's in gym's, which seems rather unlikely since the owner would have to be level 37+ or so ;-).
Possibly it could be the same guy moving it around my neighborhood, didn't pay attention that deeply, looking thru Trainer Tips videos right now trying to see his resources for figuring out the level.
the max cp will get bigger as u level yourself up I.e the arch gets bigger
my Rydon is barely 1956CP:(
Can you please revisit this question? Given new updates ...
HlastaCaled What updates?
Finally some sense to this issue! Thank you Nick :)
Hey man, i just wanted to say that i love your videos. I just found you on youtube, and youre easily my favorite pogo youtuber now. No click-bait, just actual information. You always give credit where its due whether it be on The Silph Road or on Reddit. And you know your stuff man. Your knowledge of the game mechanics, IV's, etc. really shows and for that i thank you. I feel you man, I started playing in 2016, struggled to catch 300 Magikarps. I even found a 100 IV one, but when I evolved the 3 best Magikarps to 3 Gyarados, I got the worst move set on 2, including the 100% one, and the second worst move set in the last one.
This + the fact that I could only find 3 dratinis in all my time playing (my goals were to evolve a Strong Gyarados, and to evolve a strong Dragonite) made me quit the game.

i just think the animation time when we are evolving pokemon while using lucky egg is kinda being troll by niantic, because it takes too long, and ended like wasting time just to monitorize something that we already seen..:( just tell me, for one lucky egg how many pokemon usually can you evolve
Approximately 60 or 50.
52 Pokemon for me. The animation lags a bit for me so I loose some time...
I did 74 the other day. I wrote down everything I was evolving beforehand so I wouldn't waste time checking everything. Kinda helps that like 30 of those were pidgies ... 😕
But I agree with OP ... everytime I evolve I spend the majority of the time yelling at my phone over the annoying, time-sucking, pointless animations. Once again, another L for Niantic.
I was just saying this same thing yesterday, they should have a way for you to skip the animation if you want
Keep it up Nick, your videos are awesome.
1:25 I know how you feel right there, I evolved my Nidoran into a Nidoking a few weeks ago and had the same moveset, very disappointing considering all the candy it required.
These were the days man…
how to know the pokemons level
Thank you Nick for being original, for not adding annoying pictures on your thumbnails, for not clickbaiting, for actually giving legit tips and info rather than just trying to show off your Pokemon on CZcams. Can't even compare the other Pokemon CZcams channels to yours. I actually get pretty excited when I know there is a new TrainerTips video that is out. They're enjoyable to watch as well. I think you would be a good asset to Niantic if you worked for them lol. Keep up the great videos and please don't change.
Just wanted to tell you that you're doing a great job helping us understand the game better. God bless you. Grow more
Don't understand why people do power pokemon up first. Makes no sense and you might get a shit move set
Oh right that's exactly what he said in the video...
I did that... I thought i get higher max cp out of the evolution.. I really feel dumb right now lol
you shouldn't you got max hp on that poke and if the iv is good your pokemon will be good no matter the move set
yeah people probably thought theyl get stronger cp if they power up first, but thats why you wait, and inform yourself online, the thing i dont understand is not why people power up first, but why people dont inform themselves first
If u power up a Magakarp it's better because its multiplier is high
WHAT ARE IVS HOW DO I CHECK THAT?

I refuse to use stardust. If you put your Pokemon into any of the calculators, it takes a ton of stardust to cap them out, that alone is reason enough for me to wait till I hit lvl 30 before I start actually building a team. I am lvl 25 and I have 407,000 stardust, my highest pokemon is still in the 2000s just by evolving. I realize that that gives others the leg up on me when it comes to battling, but until P v P comes out and until they make more meta-game adjustments, I don't see a reason to waste my resources.
Lvl 30 is when you start seeing the highest Lvl of wild pokemon.
+Ty Gar good to know. Thank you for the tip :D
I very much envy your restraint. Not only have I already blown all the stardust I've collected (up to level 23), but for some reason was dumb enough to use it maxing out things like porygon and hitmonlee because they are absolutely useless in battle. just wanted them to be higher level cause they're super cool and rare.
Well thank you! Hopefully Professor Nick and Professor Juan are right about the reworking of stats. Luckily for you, Porygon will be able to evolve once in Gen 2 and again in Gen 4, you may have to wait awhile, but someday that could turn into an investment!
Ty Gar haha ya i hope so, had the same thought with my maxed out golbat turning into a crobat. yes, i maxed out a golbat...
higher IV = worse move sets???
Thank you for your videos. They really have helped me reconsider which Pokémon I keep, evolve, or transfer for candy. Not sure if this is true, but I been keeping track of the Move Sets for each Pokémon I catch. Most of the Pokémon I have catched with a lower CP have tended to have better Move Sets. I still have not evolved any of my Pokémon. So, I still need to test whether evolving them will give me a better Move Set.
So funny watching these random old videos and remembering how many features the game was missing back then like the ability to change your Pokémon's moveset!
I just caught a 1125 Snorlax in the wild
Snorkax always runs away from me! I use a berry and then after the first ball he escapes and run away so I don’t even get a second chance 🥺 happed 4 times already! Different locations and different days
Wow why do people dislike the video before they even watch it it just got posted :|
people who dont like the game i guess...
560 likes, 10 dislikes 1/56 people dislike, everyone gets dislikes, it's not much at all.
haters ... they just live to open videos and hit dislike
***** you're irrelevant af stop trying to start drama
***** you should stop liking your own comments, i can count your chromosomes with one hand
I find now that it is better to evolve first and only power up IF the ultimate moveset is what I like. Pokemon with high IV seem to more often get a "bad" moveset.
Gotta love this Nick chap, big in the game.
How are you guys getting 100% iv... I barely get 85%
pokemon that come from hatching eggs tend to have higher IVs
HAVE A 100% PIKACHU AND A 100% SNORLAX
can you explain iv and how to check please
Nate C
I.v. are the individual values. So in Pokemon go there are only three attack, HP ,and defense. They max out at 15. So a 100% is 15 for all three. There are programs that allow you to check, but you will know right away when appraising. So for team valor it will say. your Pokemon is simply amazing it's hp is it's strongest feature, I'm just as impressed with it's attack, I'm just as impressed with it's defense, I'm blown away by it's stats.
Since this comment seems to be getting a bit of attention, here's my approach: you need to catch lots to evolve, so don't evolve until you have everything. For a 2-stager this is obvious, but for a 3 stager for instance, if you want a Charizard, keep collecting charmanders until you have those 125 candies. Do not evolve a Charmeleon. Then you have a bigger pool of charmanders and a better chance of one being really good. The trick is that simple; catch catch catch. You still won't get lots of 100%, but you'll get some 90s, and maybe a 100% here or there.
Also, the difference is almost negligible. The 0-15 gets added to the base stat. So if the base stat is 225, then it's a difference between 225 and 240. Sure, that means the 225 is 9% weaker, but that's a 0% IV! If it's an 80% then that means it's 237 vs 240. It's literally 98.75% as strong.
None of this is adding up to me. I used two different calculators (Silphroads vs. Poke Assistant) to check IVs and found two completely different results.
It's kinda hard to slide the arc to the right amount well unless u get a max level mon or level it up to max.
Whaaaa? I don't have a problem sliding the arc sense i work from a computer, i find it easy. The OP is about how i found two different stats on the same Pokemon from two different sources.
The arc if it's off by. 5 level can change a rating from decent to bad to solid.
Same issue. Silphroads says my newly acquired Nidorina is top notch. Poke Assistant says is "meh" at best. Sliders are not the issue.
Who to trust then ?
im so confused but keep the videos coming they are great,
Hey Nick, nice videos you're making, keep it up! Now I want to say, that since there is a max. level in this game, I follow the same strategy as you do: first check for good IV, then evolve, however I don't power them up. I'll probably do that when I reach the highest trainer level possible and then focus on getting a strong set of 5 pokemon to battle arenas with. I don't see why you should power up pokemons if your level is still far from max. I get my arena coins anyway, also with 50% IV pokemon, so I'll spare stardust and candy for my final 5 pokemon.
my dragonite is at 3449 CP currently and im lv38. Gyms are way to easy to take out
cool story bro
thanks
now try that without botting.

I wanna start making videos of pokemongo in NYC but not sure how many people would watch and subscribe?
