Did you notice his anger toward that young man after he was killed wasn't really anger at him, but for his foolish actions that caused him to be killed. Kirby obviously wanted the young man to succeed. I would guess a lot of young people are lost this way in battle. But I think now in our day they are better trained. After all, that war was so insane that the Germans had old men and kids fighting by the end of it all.

I think its "We're overbudget" I love these series. I remember in the Philippines, we didn't even have TV. I would go to the neighbor's ; I will wait for the signal- the clap of the Venture's "Let's Go" i also remember when Vic morrow came to visit Colegio de San Juan de Letran (Founded in 1620). The fk priests of the school decided that only 6 and 7th grade but only sections I and II. I was in the 7th grade and in section III. I missed meeting the guy. After he was killed on of the Twilight Zone, the movie, that was it. I haven't met the young daughter, Jennifer Jason Leigh- I believe she is old but the Combat series, the music theme has a was of preserving the memories except the memories of the Dominican priests- If Fr. Ramon Perez was the sergeant- Oh forget it!

From it´s intensity it reminded a lot of Erich Maria Remarque´s two books ALL QUIET AT THE WESTERN FRONT and FARWELL TO ARMS.
Remarque had been a German volunteer in World War I. writing mostliy about his own War expericnes. Like those youngsters in this exellently done episode he had been much to young straight from the Highschool class bank and went with the wrong expectations into the bloody battles he himself has experienced.
    Fun Fact:
Past World War I he made his daily living writing for a German Ladie´s magazin. But when the Nazis started to show their true face past 1933 his outspoken public criticism made him to immigrate into the USA.

What a beautiful ending. NO Man knows how he will act under extreme stress, especially in a Combat situation. Young Cops are not much different from soldiers. When I was 23 I had my first experience. Three of us chased a car thief with a shotgun into a building. Even though I was a relatively safe distance (about 30yds) I froze behind a large, wooden pole. I was back in control of myself and advancing to next position in about 5 seconds.

This must've been a producer's dream; No sets to speak of, a few uniforms, cigarettes, an explosion or two, and blank ammo. Talk about a recipe for financial success based on paper-thin plots. Watching this today, my main consolation for having been a fan was that I was in my early teens when it aired.

Good writing. What really happened was the progress in Europe was more than expected. Eisenhower scrapped the officer training program in the US and had those older, college educated people sent over immediately. They were fed into the line, individually, and not by unit. Having a formal education did not help survival on the line. Those filler guys were totally inexperienced and had a high casualty rate.
