  • It's not everyday you have Mumbai high court lawyers on your show. Aneesa & Ranjeev also happen to be my closest friends. Adding to the mix is a producer from Vice India, my good friend Aniket Dasgupta.
This episode talks about how overwhelming understanding the law is, how ignorance of it isn't tolerated and what we can do to change our attitude towards it (or maybe we just pretend to). All of the guests (including me ) moved to Mumbai for our careers so there is a lot of millennial frustration of figuring out our lives while also getting used to the mega city that is Mumbai.

#simpleken Being a lawyer myself, I could relate to Aneesa and Ranjeev's outlook and experiences. Also I think most lawyers suck at math (Most lawyers I know start their story of how they chose law make this statement, guilty myself) I quit working at a renowned senior advocate's office at the Supreme Court. I used to work for 14 hrs a day for almost 2 years and spent whatever I was paid towards rent and Ola/Uber. Now I am at Boston University doing Masters in a subject I really am interested. I attend three days of classes and rest of the days I swim, paint, learning ballet and French. Just yesterday I went to dance tour of Florence and Machine. Never thought I would be doing this. Took a huge education loan but love every minute I am here. Also more love to you Kenny. I already heard the podcast but here to share my love for this Podcast. This feels like a journal entry we have at the University. We write back to the professor telling him what we feel about the class. I know you read our comments and you have acknowledged and replied to my comments earlier. If I haven't explicitly said it earlier, Kenny, you are an amazing person, just awesome. The amount of effort you put into each piece of content be it, reels, shorts, podcasts and your shows is insane! And others reading this please chose WORK TO LIVE be it whatever field you chose or want to be in. Love the Simple Ken family. Sometimes I come here after listening to the podcast to read some comments. It makes me feel like we are in a AA group but we are dealing with so many things. Can't wait for the next episode ❤

As a law graduate who consciously chose not to pursue private legal practice, but instead chose a slower role in the Australian Government as a Policy Officer, I could really relate to Aneesa and Ani's outlook. Often living in competitive and career-oriented cities like Mumbai and Bangalore makes you fantasize hustle culture. If your situation allows so, it is completely okay to choose a happy and slow lifestyle. I now work part-time and I'm okay knowing I earn way less than if I pursued a career as a solicitor. Instead, I have time for all my creative endeavours like modelling, pottery, aerial acrobatics. Work to live!! 🤍

I usually dont comment on your videos but adore them with all my heart. Your podcasts have been a bonding spot for my bestfriend and i for the past 2 years, we now are growing up...have different streams...going to different junior colleges and your podcasts have been the only thing keeping us sane and reminding us to text one another.
A while back, he (anuj) commented on one of your video (even though we are audios gang) and you liked it, and he has never shut up about it ever since. I imagine him smiling ear to ear when he texts me about how he thinks you know he exists (silly ik) and i just wanna thank you for well, everything. The podcast, the much needed advices, and for bringing me closer to my bestfriend, and also for liking his comment XD

Totally agree with what Aneesa said about people in Mumbai (politically and legally correct :p) not taking anything for granted. In the lockdown I had a 6 month stay in Kerala and it annoyed me so much that people would take my time, space etc. for granted! I wasn't able to put this aspect of Mumbai into words yet, now I know! Great episode, enjoyed it and related to it on so many layers, since I am also a lawyer.

Hi Kenny sir! First, I wanna thank you for making those long recordings of you talking. They have helped me a lot during my stressful times. I don't want to make it really long so I will straightly come to the point. I am 19 and have been a very jolly person since I was a kid. I am very social and I like talking to people a lot. And I have always thought people liked me for that as well. I have also been quite popular in my school days for that reason. People and even my teachers have always told me that I have good communication skills. But one of my friends who also happens to be 3 years older than me thinks it in some other way. He calls me an attention seeker instead because as per his definitions, a girl who initiates conversations first with a guy/girl doesn't have a personality and is just merely seeking attention. But for a guy, it's not the same case he thinks. Guys have always been the ones to initiate but for a girl, he thinks she should bring some attitude to herself. I couldn't agree with what he said, it really hurt me and I have been obsessing over it. This was not the first time when somebody had said this, I have also heard a few people talk behind my back regarding the same thing in my past but getting it from him hit me a bit hard cause he was really a good friend to me. Also, he has not even seen me talking with people that much in real life. We were not from the same institution. He just gave his opinion based on what I have shared with him regarding my days or moments of communicating with a new group of people so far. For eg: I would tell him stuff like "I met this person today on my flight. He was seated beside me and we talked about this and that etc." And my friend would be like "Who initiated first? Must be you. Only you can lose your reputation in that way, what was the need?" And he would get started in this way. It really frustrates me cause I think he takes it in some other way. He's not a bad person though but in some cases like this one, he really gets on my nerves. What are your views on this? What does a friendly personality mean to you? Do you think it's wrong for a girl to initiate conversations? Your response would really mean so so much. Will be waiting!
    Much love!

Hey there, I think she meant to say that after some time your job just becomes a means for you to generate income. People stop thinking about bringing a change after they enter the career. Because then they think about making money. Now as per my understanding, bringing a change can be different from what your career is. You can make lots of money and also take out time to uplift the society, in your free time. I hope I make sense.

In response to the last 5 minutes (or maybe 3?) - please ponder upon the word 'leverage'. And then ponder about supply and demand in the Indian context. Then realign your focus on the (fabled) viability of negotiating your work contracts in the construction sector. [#nodiss just spitting facts].
This can be extrapolated to any industry which has Supply>>>>>>>>demand

#simpleken hey kenny i am currently in class 11 , i have always been degraded for my looks and the way i do things when i was younger so now its really hard for me to accept a compliment despite the fact whether its true . later one of my friend started to notice it (over the time period of 4 years) that i can't accept something positive about me and she later pointed it out in a rude way saying that ' why can't u accept something , why are u this uptight' and etc , because of that now i always accpet whatever someone says about me (positive or negative) and later on feel sad that i cant reassure myself by asking them again 'oh rlly??' . I dont know what i am doing is actually how i am supposed to be or if i am just adjusting myself into the perfect picture .
