You can buy a similar powder at a beauty supply store. It’s an acrylic powder used for building up artificial fingernails. It comes in a clear and a pink I believe. I have gotten the clear. It is formulated to work with a solvent as well, but works with cyanoacrylate just like the product showcased on the video.

This stuff does everything Paul says it does. Incredibly useful with no downside that I have encountered. I don't even use traditional "putty" anymore.
Getting it was a hassle. Most places won't sell it to non-dentists.....because they are afraid "people will try to do their own dental work.....". Yup...that's what they told me....

@@shamirbrouwer6211 Sorry...just now saw your question. I ordered the FreeFlow from an online dental supply place...but after I received it...I tried to order some of the clear powder. They contacted me and wanted my dental license. I said I don't have one. They said they cannot sell it to me. I said "why did you sell me the Free Flow?" They said it was a mistake....and...get this....they asked me to send it back. I said "no". So I have a lifetime supply of Free Flow (I got the big bottle) but no clear powder.
Sorry it took so long to answer...I wasn't dodging your question. I honestly don't remember which site I ordered it from..it was 5 or 6 years ago. I just Googled "Dentsply Free Flow". If you can find a site that will accept an order without a dental license, you might just roll the dice. You might get lucky. Worst that can happen is they say no. There is no law against them selling it to you....it's not like cocaine or anything....just a policy. I personally think they are kind of being idiots...it's nothing more than a plastic powder...and our money is green too. But that reasoning didn't fly with them.

    Hey Paul,
I've been using Zap-A-Gap and the free form powder for a while now after watching your videos. I find it especially handy when joining 2 halves of a fuselage together to fill large gaps. As you know an added bonus to using these products is the reinforcement you get along the seam line. Another great tip and thanks for sharing!

Where do you get the free form powder? There’s a lot of products on eBay but how do you know if they will work with Zap-A-Gap. I have the full range of ZAP products. And would really love to start using this technique for reinforcement a few silage halves and build ups

HI Paul, I just had another good look at this video and want to thank you once again for these great productions. I managed to obtain some of this material locally (I've got SNAP brand). I've used it with it's own catalyst and found it's an awesome material to build up surfaces and cast small parts like gun blisters. I'm going to try to fill some nagging wing panel lines that won't go away and try it on a test 'beater' with the SNAP catalyst and some with the CA glue and see which works best. Thanks again, and if you're going to be in Chattanooga, I'd love to meet you and buy you a beer!

Steve... so is this what you have?: 'PAR-S452 Parkell Snap Acrylic Powder #59 170gm' I'm wondering whether this works with the CA glue. It seems to have 'self-curing' properties so I wondering whether it only works with the proprietary catalyst.

  • @theragingdolphinsmaniac4696

Hey Paul. Wow, what a fantastic technique. I've been using Z-A-G/acrylic powder as a filler for a while now, and it's my go-to for filling and reinforcing anything now. I just tried the BMF trick to match 2 contours to each other, and it works amazing. The only hitch was that I can't get my hands on Freeflow even though I asked my dentist to order some for me. I found that Mia cosmetic nail acrylic also works, is cheaper and available in small quantities. I even bought some in a few different colors, so I can pick whatever contrasts with the plastic color so I can see it when shaping it.

  • @CarminesRCTipsandTricks

This definitely looks like it's worth trying!! I'm also a HO Scale Model Railroader.... There's LOTS of areas where precision and strength are important, and Putty just doesn't cut it!

Very Good ! I use Tab 2000 to cast parts . One thing I learned on your site was reinforcing wings with dental resin ( cyanoacrylate) , on the B-26 site ! Point and idea taken .

I have had pretty good luck with acrylic nail powder, purchased on eBay and shipped from China, although it may contain varying quantities of ground up dissidents. I think 4 ounces will run you about 15 bucks, and that will last you a long time.

Hi Dr. Pauly B! I’ve been using the free flow powder/zap a gap combo for a number of years now. I find it’s a great way to back fill aircraft undercarriage openings when the models are now mostly wheels down but I want them to be wheels up! Anyway I was curious what tape you use to back fill openings with? I was using tamiya masking tape but I get a lot of the fibres stuck in the compound and sometimes I have to really go over it with sanding to remove that.
Also I recently got the clear orthodontic resin powder, how do you avoid bubbles in it? I found it ultimately a bit useless for clear parts since all these air bubbles got stuck in it. Yours doesn’t seem to have the same issue?
Thanks again for all the great videos! I regularly have a chuckle when I use my bard Parker handled scalpel and wonder what other poor saps go through when they use a lesser cutting tool! ;-)

Paul, how long can the ca/resin mix be sanded or shaped after you put it in place? The incredible short work time turned out be the problem with all the other powders I tried mixing with ca glue. Thanks for putting these videos up for us.

Just a quick edit...I see that my question is a moot point as that particular product has been discontinued. Any possibility you could recommend a replacement?

Hello , I’m late to the game on this topic but you might like to know that this product has been discontinued by the manufacturer according to a Canadian dental supply company. Hoping you can make a recommendation for the best alternative product.

    Hi Paul,
I've been using the free flow powder/Zap combo but I have trouble with the mix setting up too quickly. Even using slo-zap, by the time I start getting a pink hue to the material it's set up on my mixing palate. Any tips for slowing the set time? I'm using the Dentsply Free Flow.

Add a little at a time, but you need to be quick about it. I've noticed the Zap-A-Gap has been working faster lately.
