@termsofusepolice There is a reason people "destroyed the spirit and ideals" in the first place: By the late 70s the superhero was more than 40 years old and were unchanged for 20. Miller, among others, took the concept of a superhero and they took it apart to see how it works and learn new ways to use it. As they were, superheroes were stale and had been for years. Its only recently that the deconstruction has gotten stale and reconstruction has begun.

People knock miller, but the truth is that his 80s output was enough. Can’t blame him for taking paychecks just to plaster his name on a book. The big two don’t offer any incentive for new characters, or creativity, and the independent scene is the only place to find the best books, however independent books normally don’t cover the superhero genre. Dc has remained more consistent than marvel since marvel went bankrupt, not to mention Stan Lee’s lack of leadership over the characters. Forgive me for going off topic, but I doubt miller is really worried about pumping out the next daredevil, dark knight returns because he don’t have to deliver that caliber of story simply because dc and marvel probably pay him more money than anyone in the industry just to use his name.

***** I'd argue that, while all those other guys are just as talented as Miller (was), if not moreso, I'd argue that none of those guys would be half as popular as they are now if it weren't for the popularity of The Dark Knight Returns. He gave comics mass appeal, and made them be taken seriously as high art, for the first time in a long time. Also, I have to disagree with you that his whole career is defined by super heroes. What about Sin City?

***** I don't mean to say he inspired any of those guys, or influenced them. I mean to say the consumer, the buying masses, the general public, *bought* their comics because they didn't see comic books as only being for little kids anymore. The Dark Knight Returns is what started that, for most people back then.

Sin City movies are basically read-along books. I already knew the endings going into the movies. In fact, it was almost word for word. Boring…I used to like his stuff, now it’s just a childish joke.

@georgekostaras To be more accurate, Frank Miller is actually a Sectarianist (Sectarianism is discrimination against religions). But you're right that he is a bigot though.

I grew up with Miller's 80's DD run. Now I'm older and I see that his critics call him mysoginistic, a sadist and a pessimist with a dour outlook on life. I have to agree because all his tales weave a similar theme. He wanted to write a book about Batman fighting fundamentalist terrorists which was rightly denied because of Batman's huge worldwide fanbase. What an idiot.
