When he was talking to Focalors, he made me cry.
When he started crying, he just broke my heart.
Neuvillette is one of the best written characters in Genshin. His story hits me much harder than Furina’s.
wrote a POV(traveler + neuvillette, sharing a dance before the traveler leaves fontaine to continue their journey)

POV: the night before everything comes to fruition
(i instantly thought about it while listening so here it is, setting: the fontaine beachshore)
It was late at night, but you couldn't sleep. You walked out your room, still in your nightclothes, down the empty and quiet streets until you stood on the sandy shore, barefoot.
You listened to the small waves wash up on the shore, and walked closer to the water to feel the sea lap up on your feet. This moment felt so quiet, like the calm before the storm. You sat down on the sand and closed your eyes, listening to the sound of the waves.
"[]? What are you doing here at this hour?" You opened your eyes and got up, looking for the source of the voice.
"N-Neuvillette? What are you doing here?"
He sighed and closed the distance between you two. "Is sleep eluding you tonight? Tomorrow...we..."
He took your hand as the both of you gazed over the open waters. You already knew what was going to happen. Tomorrow, the prophecy would be fulfilled, and everyone else in Fontaine would all disappear beneath the waves forever. You of course, would continue upon your journey...
"Tomorrow...you will be gone." He spoke softly, as if hoping that it wouldn't happen.
Then it started to rain. Little droplets of water pittered and pattered around you as it drizzled.
"Neuvillette..." You grasped his hands, your eyes twinkling with concern.
"Dance with me," He said, pulling you into his arms. His voice ebbed with unease. "Before I have to say goodbye." His arms pulled you into a tight embrace.
Rain poured down, dripping into a slow and yearning waltz. He wrapped one arm around your waist as he took your other hand, and pulled you into a dance. The sound of rain began to form the music for your dance.
Holding you tight, he moved gracefully amidst the rain.
A tear trickled down your cheek. He grabbed your arms and gently tugged you towards him, lifing you off the ground.
It felt like you were dancing on water, your nightclothes transforming into a glittering gown made of the finiest silk. Something to match Neuvillette's fine outfit.
The rain began to pick up, dripping and dripping. The waltz sped up into a mournful cry, begging to keep going, begging to not stop. Falling rain- Neuvillette's tears, you realized- heightened to a torrent, relentlessly pouring down. You were soon drenched, breathing heavily in Neuvillette's embrace. He pressed his face close to yours, your lips mere millimeters away from a kiss.
"I don't want you to go," He said, setting his hands on your cheeks.
"I don't want to-" Quickly, he gave you no chance to finish your sentence as he caught your lips in a kiss. His embrace tightened as he deepened the kiss, and your mind grew blank as all you could feel was his tightening embrace and the heat of his kiss.
He released you and you caught yourself in his arms, gasping for air. Gently, he picked you up a bridal style and held you close to his chest.
"Where would you like me to take you before you...have to go?"

pov: you were thinking of your beloved and how your end shall be coming soon..the room was lit by a candle so you could only see the little light coming from the window as you keep drifting in your toughts the tall figure embraces you from the back..
Neuvillette...he is silent as you know what he meant..it was his time to go...right before you can say anything your hugging as you feel his tears falling on your face..
neuvillette: one day we shall meet to another lifetime together..until i vanish..shall we take a last dance...the dance i will never regret..
you two now dance until you feel the cold breese touch your chest now by yourself maybe it was only a dream..one that was very sweet..

POV:
You had been put to a death sentence by the archons themselves, the man you love- Neuvillette being the only one to vote against it. Here you stand the night before execution a tear stained face as you cradle your only picture of him. Your head rested firmly against the bars to your cell.
You choke on your own tears as they stain the picture the ink smudging away taking his smile with it.
You didn't think you'd have any visitors, perhaps it was because it was the night of a glorious ball, maybe because you had never made an attempt to make a good imprint on the people around you.
Still your chest ached as you picture the man you love dancing with another woman- forgetting about your body and soul rotting in the dungeon just below.
You push your hands through the bars reaching out as if there's something waiting for your return, but alas just as you knew so well, they're was nothing- and no one for you.
Your knees begun to shake as you fall to the floor a heep of tears and sorrow, mourning your own fall.
"Y/N..." You hear a voice trail from the other side of the bars as you wipe away the tears. "Care for one... Last dance?" The voice nearly chokes out as the sound of the cell door being unlocked fills the room.
"O-One last dance..." You look up and meet the eyes of the man you love, the man who you gave the world for. "I would like that."
For the last time, you danced, and danced until you couldn't bare the thought of moving again, every second a smile plastered on your face, sure this was the end of you but at least you felt joy in your final moments of your heartfelt life.

Okay so it occurred something to me while listening this masterpiece haha, so i'll write it down; I think it'll be like a POV since I imagined Neuvillette telling this to y/n but anyway, let's go for it

POV TIME :(
It was the night before the prophecy shall be fulfilled and you knew there was nothing you could do about it instead you had to move on, you in your sadness had one final walk around the lovely night of fontaine, you knew that it would be better for people to disappear in the flood happily than dread the day to come. You knew you couldn't say goodbye just yet because you weren't ready for anything to change, you made a lot of friends in your travels and to see that a whole nation will be flooded and you cant do anything about it was too much, you finally arrived in the front of the court house and walked in for one last look, as you got into the court house you noticed one more person there sitting in the front row just looking up at the empty stage, you got closer and noticed it was the one and only neuvillette, you knew he was feeling guilty for the day to come but you didnt say anything for you might say the wrong thing and choke up, so you both sat in silence until you heard the pitter patter of rain on the roof, you knew he was sad and you couldn't do anything about it, you both were dreading for the day to come and you both would be separated forever tomorrow. As you were lost in your thoughts you didn't notice he got up and stood in front of you holding out his hand, when you looked up to meet his eyes you saw that they were full of sadness and desperation, he weakly smiled and asked for one last dance before it was time to go. You smiled and took his hand gratefully and got on stage waltzing slowly wanting time to freeze and for the night to stay forever, but you knew that change will come around no matter what, you looked up at him with a spark in your eyes, "Come with me. Come adventure with me and we will be together and we wont have to say goodbye-" He quickly kissed you to stop you from talking, after the kiss he separated and just shook his head while smiling at you lovingly, "I owe it to my nation to stay here and with them i shall fall, with them i shall fall with them." you knew he would not change his mind so you started crying, you stood there crying while he held you shushing you and saying it was alright. The next day fontaine was flooded and you stood on a cliff watching as the final waves settled, you knew the man you loved was no longer and you couldn't do anything about it except move on and carry him with you.
I have been obsessing over this beautiful playlist.
There is no way it stopped raining and the sun started shining just as River Flows in You climaxed.

A slight rain was heard starting in the background, the droplets of water falling, and you knew what It meant, but his face stayed as composed as always "It's okay, you did your best, you fought for your Nation and did your best to help Furina and Focalors, she chose herself how her destiny would end, it was never, and never will be your fault" he smiled just slightly, but the rain did not diminish "Im aware, but that doesn't make it any less bad does it now? I hope to see you once again someday."
The opera was alone, except for you two, you had accepted to Dance while the city of Fontaine sank, and it started doing so, windows were breaking as water filled the Opera "What makes you think I won't stay? or at least come back to Fontaine" a slight surprise was shown on his face, eyebrows raised "What would be left of fontaine, You mean, It'll be nothing but an empty land, filled with water and Sorrow" water started to fill the floor, yet you were on the highest part of the opera, so it was just something from afar "Im pretty sure It won't stay sunken forever, and when the water dissolves, I'll be here with you to build it again" you said as he smiled softly.
"Are you sure of what you're saying? after all you have places to visit, and didn't you have to find your sibling?" he was right, as almost always "That's true, but I'll take the time to come back, My sibling is something I can't fully control, meanwhile seeing my friends is something I can choose, to come back and check up on them can't I? My friends... and more" the rain on the outside was now louder, hitting against the top of the opera, and you gave him and understanding smile "Well... That's true, Im going to be honest when I Say Im honoured by this" he said as he kept waltzing, dancing at the rythm of the rain and the music "Neuvilette, Fontaine's story isn't over, they're safe, Im sure paimon is doing a great job at taking them to Mondstat, she's capable, and with Clorinde's help, They'll be fine."
"You must be right... I just worry a lot, But I have not yet thanked you properly for this, It means a lot to me to have somone with me in the last moments of Fontaine, specially considering how risky it is for a... human, like you" you chuckled and shrugged "I've been through worse, Im sure I can handle a bit of water" as you said that you looked at the half of the opera already sunken, the music had died down because of the water, and he brought you closer, protectively even.
"Will you stay with me? Once this is all Sunken down?" he asked, a slight wavering in his voice "I will, as long as you need me, I'll be here" he pressed his forehead to yours, and relaxed, as you both listened to the water enter the opera and outside rain and you didn't worry, because the same way you would be here for him, he would take you out the second you were in danger.
