    Thank you for this video ! Now I have to watch it again and practise building a recipe site! An important aspect of food blogs however is that structured data from google. I really love being able to customize the recipe section like you showed, instead of using something like wp recipe maker, but the only issue is the structured data integration they provide. Also thanks for shedding light on a lot of interesting plugins I never knew existed. :)

    Paul, great video. All your ACFpro videos have allowed me to build two catalog websites on my own (with a little help from someone local) This has saved me thousands of dollars from outsourcing to a programmer. The potential is incredible. The next ACF site for me is a rebuild of a local business index portal (with 700 businesses listed) that I build 8 years ago and is not responsive. Other than this video, which other video of yours can help me in this build?

    • @WPTuts
      @WPTuts  Před 4 lety

      Wow! I love that these ACF videos have helped save you thousands of $!
      I'm currently reworking the initial real estate website tutorial that uses ACF to include a lot more functionality. For example, advanced search and filtering, easy ACF relationships (think listing the relevant estate agents details when you look at a property) and a ton more useful things.
      While this isn't business listing related, I'm pretty sure there will be a bucket load of useful skills you can take over to your next (and future) project(s).
      I'm hoping to release that next week.
      Apart from that, all the ACF related videos here should be useful for various different reasons. So, if there are any you've missed I'd say to take a look at those. There is a playlist on the channel that should allow you to see just the ACF tutorials and make it easier to choose what to watch.

    Paul,
    This is awesome and timing couldn't be better. My wife loves working in her garden and creating recipes. I was working on designing a website for her when I saw this post. My issue is she's not very computer comfortable and would get lost using the WP Admin area for inputting her posts. I solved that issue by using Postie so she could email her recipes to the site and have them automatically posted. Worked well but I love the use of custom fields however, I can't see where Postie would allow for identifying the custom fields. My second thought would be a method for her to open the Admin Panel and simply see a page for adding information into the fields. I guess this would be like making a front end to the page for Post Entries.
    Any help with this would be awesome

    • @WPTuts
      @WPTuts  Před 4 lety +1

      I've never used Postie, so couldn't comment on that. You could however make a really simple front end post page using either WP User Frontend or PAFE.
      I recently did a video on PAFE to do this and WPUF was covered in my recent ACF business listing tutorial video.
      You could just make the page locked behind a login page or password protected and cut out all the dashboard confusion. 😁

    Do you have anything like this tutorial that will work with Woocommerce Product types. We are trying to create some very similar customisations using ACF Pro, CPT UI and AE Pro for Product types but can't seem to relate your tutorial here to work with Woocommerce. Please forgive me if this is a stupid question, but I loved your tutorial and am presently considering using this solution for a food blog! TY! Can you tell me, does a site built this way support the schema.org code that allows you to output microdata in the site's code so it can be handled well in SEO? And will it be fast when you have millions of images and recipes up? And if you go to migrate to a different solution, will the migration be exhausting and difficult?
    I'm just so trying to understand if I'd be better off building this custom, or simply buying Genesis Framework and the FoodiePro Template and WP Recipe Maker Pro. Right? At the end of the day, which is going to better serve the food blog?

    I'm already using Jetengine but i like to be as effective as possible that's why i'm asking if there's a better way of doing things to gain time and productivity. again, thx a lot for all your great tuts !

    • @WPTuts
      @WPTuts  Před 4 lety +2

      Great question. I'm finding I via towards ACF over JetEngine currently.
      JE is a great plugin, but if you learn ACF you're not tied to Elementor. You could just as easily work in Divi, Visual Composer, Beaver Builder, etc.
      That may not seem important now, but your skills would be a lot less builder reliant.
      Besides, learning ACF or JE will give you great skills, but I find it very easy hoping between them both as they are very similar in setup and language.
      I hope that helps.

    Hi Paul, thanks for another great tut - lots of interesting techniques in there. Just a couple of points, if I may? Firstly, you use the "archive posts" widget in places and also the 'posts widget' - I've never quite understood the difference? And, secondly, you seem to have skirted around the elephant in the room - that of unequal 'card' heights on archive pages due to, say, a title breaking over 2 lines, which is something I think we all struggle with - what would be your solution - other than ignore it ;)

    • @WPTuts
      @WPTuts  Před 4 lety +1

      The key difference between the Archive Posts Widget and Posts Widgets is that the archive doesn't have the option to query the results within the widget. It's only really intended to be used on a pre-queried archive page (although I find the limitation a bit annoying in practice).
      The unequal blocks could be handled in a couple of ways. You could use CSS to set a default height to them or if you want a super simple way, you could opt to buy Elementor Custom Skin Pro and there is a toggle there to set them to equal heights. :0)

    Is it possible to "link" two posttypes together? I mean, let's say you have the recipes posttype (like it is now) on your website in the video, but you'd like to have "cooks" posttype too. Can you "link" these two posttypes together, so you can browse through all the cooks (or the recipes) and when you go to a certain cooks "profile" then you see a list of all the recipes added by this cook? I really could use a tutorial like that :)

    For some reason Text Field with Dynamic option for Post Summary does not gives me anything. As Per you setup you have Custom Field Description for Recipes. So, I presume the description should be going there and then, logically thinking the default Post Content Field won't required. However that won't works and Post content required in order to display Post Summary widget. So, what the purpose of Custom field Description? I can display the Description field as Dynamic field, but I could not find the way to control the Leigh of the field... So, a bit confusing.
