The Princess Bride is a timeless classic with fans galore. And if you’ve seen the movie, for it to be otherwise would be utterly inconceivable. Cary Elwes, who played Westley, a farm boy who becomes the Dread Pirate Roberts and Chris Sarandon, who played the scheming Prince Humperdink, are thrilled to interact with their fans. In this panel they tell stories from the set, speak of Andre the Giant and his big heart and answer all kinds of questions.
Cary Elwes is also known for appearing in films such as Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Saw and TV shows such as Psych and The Art of More.
Chris Sarandon has also had an amazing career, playing the villain in the original Fright Night, Child’s Play, TV series such as Judging Amy, E.R. and even an episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Plus he voiced Jack in the Nightmare Before Christmas and subsequent video games.

Princess Bride is one of those movies like It’s a Wonderful Life, or Casablanca that draws a bigger audience and more respect and love each year. 😍
Totally absolutely 💯% totally agree‼️ It is a classic.
I so love Chris' and Cary's comments about Andre and the respect and love for him.
Cary Elwes is really good at mimcry! Love his Andre, love his Rob Reiner...he's funny and great!
Chris is 77 here, amazing, God bless .
He must really be a vampire. He doesn't look 77
Furreal???? 77????
@@rollotomassi4768
I see what you did there
Inconceivable.
@@rollotomassi4768 45
Cary in men in tights "Because unlike other Robin Hoods... I can speak with an English Accent!.. "🤣
Best line in the movie!
*Kevin Costner sulks in the corner
they haven't aged at all!! still as handsome as ever
These two look terrific for their age, especially Cary.
Chris Sarandon is 20 years older.
I was thinking the same!
@@jayeginn5963 WOW
I felt bad for Chris S. about how most of the questions for Cary. Even that little boy didn't care to meet him. I guess that's what happens when you play a villain. Most people like the hero.
Same, but if you go to a horror convention, he's the main guy that everyone is talking to.
He was such a good villain too. He and Chris Guest were both epic in The Princess Bride. One time, I was cast as a villain in a school play and was kind of bummed out about it until I remembered Humperdinck and Rugen and the amazing job they did in my favorite movie, and how important their roles are to the story.
Many an accomplished actor prefers the heavy bad guy role. Jack Elam once said his favorite role was an evil mountain man with a dedicated desire to eat a baby. Richard Moll once said his 'road warrior' role and death scene were far more fun and rewarding than playing Bull Shannon. A truly memorable death scene is a professional actor's greatest fantasy .
Cary Elwes is really good at impressions.
That story about Andre the Giant's 16 second fart on Day 1 of shooting was THE BEST!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Treated that kid like a champ! Stay classy Cary.
Always Loved Carry, but the way he spoke to the kids and even bringing the Dread Pirate up to the stage made me love him even more
I love Cary as much as the next person, but good god, these people couldn't have thought of more questions for a legend like Chris Sarandon???
My palms got sweaty when he said “as you wish”. 🥰💕
The elephant in the room the entire time was that nobody likes Humperdink, the character. Because Chris played him so well. You can see Cary trying to bring Chris in every chance he can, because he is his friend and because he genuinely respects him as an actor (and Chris Sarandon definitely has the resume to back that respect up), but seriously nobody was all that interested in him and his rather hated character.
Thems the breaks in a cult classic movie like this. Just how it is.
But I do wish the most important question had been asked: what is it about The Princess Bride that makes it equally appealing to girls and guys? The perfect date movie? How is is both a romantic comedy and an action movie totally quotable by bros everywhere? That's the magic. The magic Hollywood had a few times and keeps letting slip through their fingers.
I really liked Chris Sarandon in Fright Night as the Main Villian and then doing a Cameo in the Remake. I also liked him playing the Good Guy in Chuckie.
I laughed my ass off when he cameod in the remake. Sadly, there was maybe 10 people in the theater at the time.
Played the coolest vampire ever. Brilliant performance by a guy who seems super nice.
Omg I forgot he was the cop in Chuckie! Always love his roles lol
For me it is hard to choose which is my favorite between Princess Bride and Men in tights. He was so good in both with so many memorable quotes. Would have loved to hear him speak the english accent line. I tear up whenever they mention Andre. He was great, and so sad that he was taken from us too soon. As you WISH.
Imagine being as cool as these two. They’re both so funny and classy and seem very down to earth too. What a fun panel!
Just finished listening through Cary’s book “As You Wish” on audiobook. 🥰
It should be required reading for anyone who calls themself a fan. Fun and heart-filling, time well spent. (Not necessarily _new_ information, just blissfully enjoyable!)
I have the book and loved it 💜
Agree I adored it!!
The audiobook was the perfect showcase for those voice acting chops & an absolute love fest! ❤️
I loved it❤
Cary needs to do more voice acting! He did Quest for Camelot (which my children watched nonstop) but he does amazing voice impressions. As a singer, I’d be surprised he can’t sing
He does some voice acting in the english dubs for Studio Ghibli movies too. He plays the Baron in “The cat returns” and yeah… that’s his kind of role alright…
He's also plays Donald Curtis from Porco Rosso
I think I'll watch this movie again tonight
I have several copies in different formats.
I did. It is still great.
Always a good plan!!!
I love Chris!
I would cast him on every film I could think of, if I were a director. Unbelievable how this guy still underrated
For those saying Cary Elwes aged so much better than Chris Sarandon: there IS a 20 year age difference between the two. Sarandon was born in 1942, Elwes in 1962.
I can attest to what the cast and crew said about Andre The Giant, he really was a gentle giant and a very nice man. His full name was Andre Rene Roussimoff. When I was working in Lower Manhattan in the early 1970's I was a member of the local Jack LaLanne gym and one of my co-workers introduced me to wrestler Bruno Sammartino, who was also a member there. I enjoyed the wrestling scene back then and used to go when I could. Some years later I went to work at Gulf & Western at Madison Square Garden and I was able to get into pretty much anything going on there. I was at a wrestling match and ran into Bruno and he took me backstage to meet some of the wrestlers. That's when I meet Andre. He was a literal giant, and in the prime of his career, and he was exactly as everyone in the cast of The Princess Bride described him, just a nice guy. And he did call everyone boss, and he had a voice that sounded like stones rolling down a mountain. He was a real gentleman. I heard a story about him from Randy Poffo a/k/a Macho Man Randy Savage and his brother Lenny who was also a wrestler. They had been at P.J. Clarkes when some drunk fool started telling Andre that he was a phony and other stupid things. Andre didn't answer him and when the guy got mad and said he was to teach him a lesson, Andre just put his hand on the guy's shoulder and said "take it easy boss, I buy you a drink" when the guy saw the size of Andre's hand on his shoulder he got bug-eyed and sobered up real quick, lol. But to show you what kind of person Andre was, he called the maitre' d over, gave him some cash and said to put the guy in a cab home. That was Andre in a nutshell, just a good person.
Lovely story! ❤ Thank you for sharing.
I could listen to Cary doing voices all day.
Cary's accent reminds me of Henry Cavill's accent. Some American English inflections of words along with their norm British tones. Both are beautiful and both men are devilishly handsome. ❤👍
Damn everyone from this movie aged so gracefully wow.
Instead of a sequel, they could make a series of Dread Pirate Roberts films. What's beneficial is that there was no one D.P.R. so anyone one could play the role
I LOVE The Princess Bride😍😍😍😍
I absolutely love the Princess Bride!
We ALL do !!! Our favorite !
Absolutely one of my favorite movies ever.
Chris Sarandon is epic. Dude should get more acting jobs.
D'ya think there's a LITTLE sibling rivalry between him & his sister Susan (I mean on HER part, Joe.)
@@williamnelson727 You mean his ex-wife, not sister.
@@williamnelson727 ROFL...ex-wife. Susan kept his name.
His voice is so iconic lol.
@@williamnelson727 Susan is his ex wife, not sister.
3:35 . Sometimes I respond "oh, nobody of consequence " to people asking who I am. 🤔 😆
When the movie stands alone that's a good thing.
Edit: I love that the behind the scenes people's names and efforts were mentioned. I'm a credits watcher, I appreciates those things.
The Andre story is 🥇
Chris looks like a good friend to his buddies.😎
Great to see Chris Sarandon. My favorite role of his was in Fright Night. Played a great vampire.
I'd love to see not a sequel but a movie called The Dread pirate Roberts about how several of the dread pirate Roberts are found turned into dread pirate Roberts made wealthy and hand over the name
YES!! Fabulous idea!!!
I think many have had that wish, including me. I was obsessed with the man in black!
This was a DELIGHT! Thank you for sharing!
This was a wonderful trip down memory lane. The movie's "tone" really is unique. I can't think of another movie that is the same in terms of the mix of genres and the tone it strikes. Most movies are readily comparable to others from the past. Not this one. Reiner really is a genius to be able to capture and present that mood and tone so consistently.
I wanted Chris to say “I would not say such things if I were you!”
Chris Sarandon is Jerry Dandridge forever !! And ... Mel Brooks was the best decision Cary ever made .. Such a fan of Robin Hood Men in Tights ... Grew up with Princess Bride .. Just Brilliant
My whole spring cocktail menu is princess bride themed such a classic must have watched this movie a thousand times
One of my favorite performances by any actor is Chris Sarandon in Fright Night, he was sooo sexy!!
Yeah he, and the dude that played Evil Ed killed it....Marcy even looked hot back then ain't that crazy....
I was just going to mention “Fright Night.” The Dread Pirate Roberts is sexy, Yet Chris Sarandon was a very appealing (hot, hot, hot) vampire in Fright Night.
Chris Sarandon....still HOT!
Chris was always a hottie! He looked good as a cop in Child's play too. Jerry the next door neighbor Vampire💜😎. Cary's career in Hollywood has been pretty successful.
love this movie....love these actors....wow they still look beautiful!
Thank you to all the cast for this timeless movie that I (and so many others) love so much! My teacher in 5th grade read this book with the small class I was in then brought in the movie for us after and it's been one of my favorite ever since! Same teacher that showed me and helped me read The Lord of the Rings. I'm dyslexic so I had a bit of a hard time at it. The kindness you showed me has been with me all my life (now in my mid 30's) and I still think back on those days with fond memories and will for the rest of my life. Thank you Mr.Holden! You deserve so much for what you did for myself and I'm sure so many others! You rock sir!
It's sad that Cary Elwes's lost most of his British accent here. I love that accent.
There's a shortage of perfect accents in the world. 'Tis a pity he's damaged his.
@@jhssuthrnmama LOL😂
I was thinking the same thing. Trying to figure out what happened
He has lived in the US for many many years, his beautiful English accent is bound to fade, sadly
Hes lived in the usa for decades. After awhile you tend to blend in with the locals. Im from glenn falls ny and lived in Nashville tenn for 14 yrs. I picked up the southern accent
“I think I must’ve watched it over a hundred times” me with TPB
Thanks for posting this!
Watched it with my kids over and over and never tired of it
Definitely stands on its own. Such a great story and amazing cast. ❤❤
Men in Tights the Musical - can't wait!
A buddy of mine played Robin Hood in a “Men in tights-like” community theatre play. It was hilarious, and he captured Cary Elwes’s energy well lol.
I saw this on cable. I’d never heard of it. I do recall in ‘87 seeing a poster at a movie theater for the movie but not knowing what it was. I was 14 so I truly wasn’t interested in movies or television. I had my friends & parties. Lol But my sister told me ‘YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS MOVIE!’ And I did & was absolutely hooked! And I know every line of the movie like many do.
Buff Buttercup. 😂
I'm surprised that Cary didn't mention that he did a Fat Albert impression in his audition.
Such great speakers, saying hello to everyone that asked questions. Very awesome!
Cary is a really good impressionist.
If I could “like” this video a million times, I would. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Wow! I'm impressed at how witty and entertaining these actors are in an interview. Most actors are fucking boring. Princess Bride is in my top ten best family films. Like E.T. and Wizard of Oz.
Chris Sarandon : nominated for an Oscar for Dog Day Afternoon, Fright Night, JACK SKELLINGTON, and the main antagonist to Chucky in Child's Play...guy is a LEGEND
This movie came out the year my son was born. He's never been in a world without PB!❤
Cary is a sweet guy in the film's as well as in the panel I think a toss yum.
I wish they had shown the faces of the Audience asking the question especially the woman that CAry said looked like Buttercup. I never read "The Princess Bride", but I did read Marathon Man after seeing the Movie. I lived both the Movie and the Book "Marathon Man. I like "The Princess Bride", but not quite as much as Marathon Man- very different genre and Movie.
"If we are they'll all be dead" RIP Andre
I watched with my kids and now grandkids!!
Cary is still gorgeous AF
Some stories just need to stay finished with happily ever after. Forcing sequels just kill the story
21:36 Aaaaand now I'm a 30 year old *pregnant* dude. Great.
Robin’s question and input was legendary 😂🫶🏽
Thanks for the memories a brilliant film I owe the movies thank you very much
Chris and Cary are so hit.🗻🌋🌏🌐🏛️🏛️🏛️🏛️🏛️🏗️🏟️🏟️🏟️🏟️🏟️🏟️🏟️🏟️🏟️
Cary is fit I can tell by his jumps on stage star as well as accents a Real dude.🏔️🛄🛄🛄🛄🛄🛄🛅
Too bad Robin Wright and Cary Elwes never made another movie together as a couple.... Beautiful couple.
My dog's name is Inigo. Because I love this film
When people are talking about the things that make the movie great, I am saddened by how often they leave out mentioning the wonderful music of the incomparable Mark Knopfler.`
I just watched it with my kids!
Ultimately thinking of Carol I liked musical theatre. It grew on me a puppet master
Loved Darren.
Have fun storming the castle!
I was the age of the boy being read to when it came out. My older sister and her friends insisted I see it. Great movie!
Sorry, but it's "Miracle Max"...Not "Mad Max". Yes, I had to say it. Love you, Chris, all the same. You were wonderful. Good to see that you still have your nose.
He has the voice of Mr. Moss from The IT Crowd!
I have not only watched it with my kids, but with my grand-kids.
Thanks for this! I missed the panel at the con but had a fun day regardless and got my photo with all of them. Where was Wallace for this?
He was given his own panel to fill the empty gap when Matt Smith cancelled his appearance
Cary sounds so American at this point.
Ummm, he IS American
Cindy Owens Ummm, no he isn’t .
First time I head his voice I was so confused, before I could pin down the British accent, he sounded like JFK
Cindy Owens Honey. He is from England.
His stepdad is American and he went to college in the U.S.
Would love to meet Cary! What a beauty! ❤
Spaceballs the Musical!
welcome to frrrright night....for real
hello dr gordon
I love this movie. More movies should be made like this. No stupid nudity etc. It's just so fun to watch.
I've been to a number of different fan conventions, mostly for Star Trek. No matter the convention, someone always asks the same, tired, meaningless question...even talk show hosts ask this same question... "Did you know this movie/TV show/album was going to be so popular/famous/legendary?" I hate this question. The answer is always "No." Done. It drives me nuts every time i hear it. Alternatively, the second question here.... was actually a GOOD question.
Cary could rival the Rock's smoldering. Lol
The Mel Brooks that Cary does is pretty good. BUT, Am I the only one that hears Stallone when he is doing Rob Reiner?
My best movie ever!
Love You both in Psych
Darren just had a question. Dude didn't expect to be up on stage with a legend.
My favorite Cary's line in a movie was from Glory. His line he says to Robert. If you have seen that movie you get why. It's not supposed to be funny but the way he says the line it kills me everytime! The look he gave to the camera and then his voice. My God. As i said not supposed to be funny but it was.
I loved seeing Cary in Glory. That movie was so good.
Go boy!!!!!hoorah.
Chris Guest does have a story about his swordfight with Mandy. He actually got stabbed in the leg, then forgot about the choreography and went purely defensive.
Oh, this was Chris Sarandon.
Marvellous
Cary elwes needs to play a high ranking German officer in a ww2 film
I believe there is a movie coming out were he does. With a mustache 😅
And no one ever mentions Peter Faulk.....?
Carey has in other interviews.
Probably never had much contact. Certainly no scenes together
He only ever was in a scene with one other actor, so let's to talk about.
He is mentioned in Cary's book.
I would like to attend this kind of segments
