I was thinking the same with the Borla. $700 and it barely sounds any different? Really? My dad had a V8 Raptor with a Borla exhaust and that truck sounded fucking nasty. Granted that's a very different truck, but my point is they know how to make a good exhaust, I'm just surprised this is so bland

The problem with the Craven exhausts is they use 409 stainless steel that is magnetic and will rust, do a little research on stainless steels and you will understand why Borla uses T304 stainless steel and gives you a million mile warranty which comes out to 20,000 miles a year for 50 years. you will go through several Craven exhausts in the same million miles.

You want the Borla then, both the MBRP and AFE used 3 inch tubing which is to big and reduces exhaust gas velocity and cylinder scavenging, Borla is the only one of these three systems that got the tubing size correct for maximum exhaust gas velocity and cylinder scavenging. Add in the fact Borla also uses T304 stainless steel on all of their products which is far superior to MBRP's aluminized steel and AFE's 409 stainless steel and the clear winner is Borla.

I bought the Borla and do not regret it. Everything sounds very Honda civic like in real life. The Borla is very deep and just enough aggression for this mid size truck. If you are gonna go with the other options just straight pipe it at that point. Borla doesn’t restrict air flow either like the MBRP having a smaller muffler is not good for the airflow to come out. You need max air flow to come out and Borla does just that. There’s a reason it’s expensive and yes really overpriced but again worth it for quality too. Doesn’t rust like the MBRP as well. Don’t forget the other two brands rust easier as well too. If you get the Borla and want an even more aggressive sound a S and B old air intake is perfect. PS there’s a reason The guy went with the Borla for his truck for a reason lol.

Had the MBRP on my 21 Tacoma TRD Sport manual transmission and it was too loud for everyday driving, lots of drone noise in 3rd to 5th gear inside the truck, exhaust would even pop on downshifts, tried to add a magna flow resonator but loudness did not reduce much. Finally replaced setup with TRD exhaust and now have lower noise a little higher tone than stock exhaust. Will try the Borla S type sometime in future.

To anybody thinking of doing the exhaust on your Tacoma I’ll caution you to STAY CLEAR of all loud rated options! Especially if you have the 4.0 v6 and plan to go from the headers all the way back. I went with all moderate rated options and it’s enough to become annoying on the interstate! I have Doug Thorley long tube headers Doug Thorley pipe bomb with resonators and the flow master American thunder cat backs with dual exits! American Thunder cat back is what I started with and it was not loud enough so I moved to DTLT headers with the stock y pipe. That sound was actually really good but I was younger and wanted more and went extreme with the URD y pipe at first but it would almost anger me and my passengers so after several years I went for the DT pipe bomb. It sounds pretty good and tolerable now however I’m sick of the dual side exit catback so I’m looking to move to the quietest sounding single side exit I can find. Dual side exit gets in the way of the spare and if it gets loose and lowers slightly on one side then your truck looks like crap from the back. Flowmaster sent a bunch of low quality clamps that I upgraded over time and recently the driver side tip came off on a rough dirt road after 10 years! I’m over it 😅. I also strongly recommend that you keep ALL the stock exhaust parts no matter how much your wife complains because I was quoted over 2k JUST FOR A STOCK Y PIPE! If your wife has an issue then take her to the scrap yard! 😂 great video I really liked the borla too! I want smooth and quiet not that raspy sound because trust me it gets very very old!

I have to wonder if there’s any significant back-pressure difference between the 2.5” Borla and the other two at 3”. Does the better flow result in ANY dyno changes at all? Gotta admit- that MBRP had the most significant sound change- it growled nicely!

Bigger is not better the 3 inch exhausts in this video reduce exhaust velocity and cylinder scavenging, the Borla 2.5 inch system will have the highest exhaust velocity and the best cylinder scavenging resulting in the best performance. John Lingenfelter built over 600 horse power corvettes and worked with Borla on the exhaust and used 2.5 inch pipes, even today people still think bigger exhaust pipes are better but they could not be more wrong. The same thing applies to headers and header collectors. If nothing else remember this you are looking for exhaust gas velocity, the faster you can move the exhaust gases the better the cylinder scavenging will be with will allow for a better cylinder charge on the intake stroke resulting in more power.

I have the AFE, yes it sounds good, but on the highway could get too loud specially with the gear hunting. And one thing I did not like, the tip that was black in the beginning, it’s not silver, it lose the black color with the time.

imo problem with cat-back is that its pretty much just for noise. I don't want to get into a war between stereo volume and road noise.

I didn’t do a pre-built catback but I went with an Aero Turbine AT2525 muffler and it sounded awesome and got a ton of compliments before I went to URD Equal Length headers and then had to get a resonator because it got *raspy*.

Out of all the videos I’ve seen I had to go with Carven and I absolutely love it in person. The tip/tailpipe is removable and dumps right over the axle for better off-road clearance. Sounds even better on the 6mt hitting limiter while wot!
Does hitting ECT on the autos allow it to rev a little higher do the autos only go up to 5,500rpm? Having the 6mt hitting the full 6k is awesome for these rev happy 3.5s

I like the sound of it too but is it too loud?

    • @drewncars9505
      @drewncars9505 Před 8 měsíci +1

@@jerryrocketandthegogogirls3517 it kind of depends on your definition of too loud. When you’re really giving it the beans it’s pretty loud but casual driving it’s not unbearable. Even my wife who’s not much into cars/trucks doesn’t mind it on long road trips. Driven from TX to CO and TX to OH comfortably. You can keep conversation easily without raising your voice with the windows up.
If you’re used to having exhausts on vehicles then no it’s not too loud. If it’s your first time having an aftermarket exhaust it might be too loud could be another way of saying it lol.
I drive with mud terrain tires on my truck and they’re louder than the exhaust sitting at 70 if that helps at all too. I love this exhaust though. I genuinely believe it’s either this exhaust or stock exhaust. All others don’t sound great on the Tacoma. It’s hard enough to make a V6 sound decent as is and I get nothing but compliments when people hear my truck.
      Hope that helps

The only two important things when looking for a house....#1 Do the neighbors all have barking dogs. And #2 is there a car nut on the block, speeding up and down the street, and starting his vehicle 100 times at random hours. Either way theres a ton of dogs on my block barking at all hours, yet I'm the car nut so I can't complain 😂

MBRP is loud and has presence, but I feel it lacks tunning on the high end of RPMs. Borla is the overall superior dor a daily in my opinion. There is a very nice twin tip exhaust out there (don't remembrer the name but it shows in short videos here in YT if you look for "Tacoma dual exhaust").
