Vocal ANALYSIS of Indian Folk Metal artist Bloodywood's song on UNITY - "Ari Ari"

- I almost had the opportunity of seeing Bloodywood at Bloodstock in 2021, but due to covid restrictions they couldn't make the trip. So to finally have them on my list to analyze here on the channel was a delight! The mixture of not only vocalizations but authentic Indian instruments made this song an absolute treasure to behold!
Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to Bloodywood for the first time, performing "Ari Ari” featuring Raoul Kerr.

Playing guitar on a camel is easy if the camel is good at keeping time ;D Thanks so much for the detailed review and reaction!
The camel has gotta get his own camel band!
Just gonna put this out there, Gaddaar is probably one of The most energetic, well structured, perfectly balanced, beautifully written and simply one of the best metal tracks of all time. You guys have really done an amazing job with it, as well as with the whole album. Your energy is pure and authentic and draws out the most amazing emotions when I listen to your music like very few bands have done before, and I can’t stop singing your praises to all that will listen. Keep it up and I wish you all the success that you so totally deserve.

Hey guys, would you be able to recommend any other Metal bands from your neck of the woods? I always find it interesting to see what different cultures bring to the Metal community. You guys are crushing it by the way!
@@erik21430 the downtrodden
The drum like instrument us called dhol
And the whistle is a flute
Raoul was a feature in this song but after this song he officially joined the band
Jayant is lead vocalist he good at both harsh and cleans
Karan does a lot of flute and guitar solos in few songs and great overall and and founded bloodywood
All their music has some messaging behind it and beautifully crafted video message
Now they have their own self made album
More Recommendation from them
- dana dan
- gaddar
- Aaj
- yaad
- Jee veerey
The flute would be a bansuri.
Jee Veerey is an awesome track
Yes, but what kind of flute? It's obviously some sort of fipple flute, and it looks like an Irish tin whistle to me
Growing up in an area of the UK with a large Indian population, I heard dhol drums a lot as a kid, and even got to try playing them when I was in primary school. Always loved the sound of them!
@@stmonkeydoom in hindi its called a bansuri as jay mentioned above
I highly reccommend watching the documentary they made on the first tour, culminating at Wacken. It's called "raj against the machine". Because of course it is....
I have to check that out. Sounds interesting took me few minutes to find it but here is the link czcams.com/video/HIvzfULOJ70/video.html
czcams.com/video/HIvzfULOJ70/video.html - on their own channel :)
Of all the comments I thought I might see on this video, @mikeselectricstuff was not one of them! I've seen that docu mentioned a few places, will have to check it out this weekend!
@@blcollier Here it is:

They get massive points in my book just for naming their tour that.
While Ari Ari is a great song, you should check out “Aaj” or “Dana Dan” for their full vocal ranges! Julia Nilon did a reaction to Dana Dan a few weeks ago.
Dana Dan for sure!
I would actually suggest "Jee Veerey" or "Yaad" for a better sample of vocal ranges
Naw dude, Yaad is the one to review!
@@reallifepowerups3998 Agreed. "Yaad" not only has the amazing clean vocals but also the harsh vocals towards the end which gives a better comparison of Jayant's vocal ranges. Not to mention the lyrics are absolutely beautiful.
i concur
Many people were saved by their song about depression: Jee Veerey
Yes, I love this song. Very much a staple addition to my list of songs for when I "need" them.
I’m one of those people!
They put the song after Chester's passing away, but before they had posted a metal version of Heavy by Linkin Park, stating that the original version and Chester, as well, sucks.
@@abeginnerspov5968 Well, he did.
@@matttungate I'm glad you're still here with us :)
Could metal bring the world closer together? One can only hope. Bloodywood demonstrates this perfectly.
Metal does bring ppl together if your into metal. And how many million metal heads are out there? We are brothers, sister's and lovers.
Those who appreciate metal I think can come closer together.
Especially many can agree on what is wrong with the world. From all around the world. Solutions, well, maybe not so much.
Music in general does bring worlds together ! I am a Metal Head but I still appreciate other genres of music as well.
I have shown a couple people that would never listen to bloodywood on their own that say they actually like it, one neighbor has it in his playlist as well
@@autohmae I think digibirder meant bringing people together that doesn't even listen to metal and if people would hear metal or specifically understand it lol but if they actually hear it I think it could bring people together. Sad thing is after saying that I think of bill n ted lol
Raoul was a guest artist on this song and he jelled so well the original two members that he joined the band permanently after. Their recent debut album (early 2022) is top notch and one of the most refreshing and innovative metal albums in years (and staggeringly impressive for a self-published album). Ari Ari is fun and where their sound first fully came together but it’s basically a metal cover and they just got better with experience . The material they wrote from scratch themselves is a cut above this, both in polish and in passion. As an added bonus, they are all genuinely sweet and humble young men. They are definitely one of the most genuinely likeable metal bands out there right now.
For a while i was stuck on ari ari, its a great song but they have so much more if you look past the one song. Raoul joined as a full member and then i heard "aaj" and "gadaar"...both blew me away. Especially since aaj has a damn flute solo
AAJ is the best thing I've heard in while
So I haven't listened to Bloodywood in a while, and at your recommendation I went and listened to Aaj. It's amazing how much better this band gets each song, that was a great song!
@@fallofshadows2209 glad you liked it, they have so much good stuff out now. Gaddarr, dana dan, aaj and much more
Aaj is definitely the highlight of the album - soooo good. And that flute mmmm.
@@rosaeusithilelen yeah its great. I really like gadarr as well though.

Bro this is the ONLY comprehensive breakdown and review of the intricacies of Bloodywood. You discussed the music, the lyrics, the video, the emotion.
I’m not joking. I’ve seen many reactions. Literally all reactions ever.
VOCAL EXPERTS have either never done a proper review of the many symphonies in the song, or haven’t reacted to Bloodywood.
You have a very good ear. Keep rocking. Listen to more Indian music. You’ll definitely enjoy it. It’s an alien dimension for the western ear.
These guys are something special.
They were originally more regular metal, but after the reaction they got from mixing the traditional sounds, they found their path and a legion of new fans.
Yeah, I found them with this song and I was hooked.
I wish it had been Aaj, a song for whom my love is deep and abiding, but this band is simply so much fun, and they have a great attitude and message to go with their fun tunes.
Aaj is also my favourit song from them.
+1 to Aaj
For sure.👍🏻
The chorus in Aaj is hooj-- I mean huge.
Yes, please :D I love Aaj
Please take a look at Bloodywood's entire album. It's an absolute masterpiece. Incredible that it's all done independently and their first album. It plays like an album from metal veterans
Edit: Elizabeth, if you see this comment, aaj and Dana Dan are definitely the songs to take a look at. In Aaj you really hear the singers full range. Really an amazing singer. Also, after the success of Ari Ari the rapper actually became a permanent member of the band
Agreed. Rakshak is a masterpiece, one of the best metal albums to ever be released.
I found this band and its awesom best reagards from 🇫🇮
This, Rakshak is an awesome album.

I almost didn't click on this video because I had something else in my mind for what I thought this was. I'm so glad I watched this. An amazing blend of styles and deep lyrics I totally agree with. Thank you for doing this. ❤️
Definitely check out more of their stuff. I'd recommend Jee Veerey. Show's what these guys are all about 😁
@@revhappymv Dana Dan is a great example too! The aggressive metal sound but with a hopeful positive message in the lyrics.
I cannot EVEN tell you how much I want to see you react to "Gaddaar". Also just for the message and the musicality: "Aaj", "Jee Veerey" and "Endurant". Plus "Yaad" If you want to smile cry...
Hyyyype.
They seem like great dudes as well as rocking musicians.
Id bet they would be down for an interview...
Yes please!!!
Yeah, I'd love an interview too 👍
Tea time indeed!
Bloodywood are not just a awesome band, they are very humble and down to earth people who actually care about what they put into their songs. You should definitely check out more from them, aaj,jee veeray,Dana Dan, endurant, gaddar and Yaad are all excellent songs of the highest quality and all have very powerful messages in the music.
I absolutely love these guys, I followed them since the very begining when they first did a fun meme cover of the the popular indian song tunak tunak tun. I am so proud of how far they have come in all those years.
That's where I discovered them too, I was originally turned on to tunak tunak tun way back when WoW BC came out and when I heard a metal cover of it came out well I was intrigued
@@jhiggins85 lok'tar ogar! brother ORC!
I thought this video was gonna be a skip for me but WOW am I glad I watched it. The combination of hard and fast music with upbeat messaging gives me A Day To Remember vibes, and Indian music makes me think of my friends back in Florida. I really want to dive deeper into this music
So so cool! It's just about a week ago when I sent you a suggestion about Bloodywood and now video is here! Hopefully you check their new songs too, they are even better.
In the future, please do Dana Dan by Bloodywood, a great song with some very strong views and language, but has a message that should be seen.
Dana Dan or Jee Veerey are two great songs. Either or would be fine by me
Frankly their entire album is one of the best things I've heard in years
Dana Dan would be incredible. I know so many people (myself included) who broke down crying from just how powerful it was to hear.
Elizabeth, make sure Kirk gives you a heads up on content, it's *intense*.
To answer your question, that percussion instrument is called a 'Dhol'.
There are different variations like 'Dholak' and 'Mridangam' ( which is seen in the Southern part of India )
The guest vocal ended up becoming a permanent part of the band later.
I just bought tickets to see them in September in Baltimore, MD. Can't wait!
I just found your channel today, have watched all the videos of bands i like and now you release a new one for one of my favorite bands.
Perfect
I vote for reacting to Bloodywood's song "Jee Veerey" next. I it a powerful song and message.
Hello Mrs Zharoff, I love your reactions, please do Dana Dan from bloodywood, the message is the point and the music is awesome. You will be amazed I hope. I Loved your enterview with Julia redhead vocal coach star Nylon.
She is awesome too. Thanks for showing us your followers, a little bit of your path. So you are that good anh. :-)
Love the blending of metal with various folk styles like this: think the Hu, Korpiklaani, etc.
How did it take me so long to find out you did a reaction to Bloodywood!? 😱 I discovered them around 2021 and fell in love with them immediately, they're one of my favourite bands now! I saw them live last year and it was incredible, they have sooo much energy on stage it's crazy!
One of the things I love most about them though, are their messages. They sing about political and cultural stuff, of course, like in this one, they also sing specifically about women's rights, they help animal shelters in India and so on... They're all about great causes and their lyrics are always on point about these serious issues and I can't tell you how much I appreciate that. If you have the time, I can recommend you watching the documentary about their journey on their CZcams channel, it's amazing. And pleeeaaase react to more of their songs, I can't even recommend you one, they're all amazing! ❤️🙌
Also, this band has such an amazing message. Dana Dan is about women's rights and r*pe. All of their music has a strong message.
Don't miss out of Raoul's solo work. He brings the heavy themes to the band and his solo work is loaded with them. "For Her" is about the same subject as "Dana-Dan".
Found your channel yesterday and coudnt stop watching the videos. I really love music in general, but Elizabeth's passion, enthusiasm, emotions and expressions is what got me istantly... I could watch her peel potatoes and im sure i'll still enjoy it xD
Aaj, Yaad, Machi Bhasad and Jee Veerey are my favorites from them, what a great and fresh metal band.
You should also hear some of their old metal covers, Tunak Tunak is awesome :D
Also their Yaad song is dedicated to the love of dogs and they used it to gather money to help their local shelter.
Jee Veerey is about mental illness and raising awarness about it.
My heart is happy today! Bloodywood being reviewed on The Charismatic Voice? Hells yeah! 🤘
absolute best folk metal band I have heard since YEARS
The drum is called a dhol. As for the whistle, the guitarist Karan plays it and has a few on stage for different songs.
Really talented band; I count myself lucky to have watched them in Wacken, and actually meet the band after that.
That whistle is a Flute

Hi, metalhead here. I started watching your channel to see your awesome reactions to bands I already know are great. Now I'm subscribed to discover the bands I have never heard before. This one is yet another fantastic reaction and a new band on my eternal playlist. These guys rock, thank you for the reaction :) And congrats with the little one
You really have to deep dive on Bloodywood. These guys deserve international stardom. They have such a good message on all their stuff. You should hear Dana Dan or Jee Veeray (The folkiest) or Machi Basaad, just pure brutality. I LOVE Bloodywood! Raj Against the Machine! Also, Raul is pronounced Ral, and he used to be a guest, but is now a full part of the band.
The last album is awesome!
Also, should make a video about Endurant and Yaad. My favorite Bloodywoods songs.
I didn't know em and I love em. Thanx for this review and thanx you all for requesting such a rainbow of good songs.
This is the first Ive heard this band and I could not stop listening to it! The diversity in instruments & the powerful build ups keep pulling you in closer to re-examine! It has been a while since Ive listened to folk metal, but this band reminded me of the song that introduced me to it; A Rose for Epona - Eluveitie.
Love these guys, can't wait to see your reaction 😄

It absolutely will not disappoint!
What about Oriental (Middle-Eastern) metal? 😉

A bunch of her Patreons are working on it 😁
I actually never heard of Acyl before and those weren't who I referred to...
Nevertheless I put a few of their songs today to see what it is about and wasn't too impressed...
My suggestion was Orphaned Land and after hearing Acyl, I still recommend OL over Acyl (or Myrath for that matter)
@@petersilver4281 their last album is their best, their first two...ehhhhh, s'okay, lol.
Myrath and OL are phenomenal, I think you're right that OL is the best choice, they're so cinamatic and have some wonderfully unique vocals.
Love how the combination of local traditions with other genres of music, it first of all sets the band apart from others, and also makes me feel like I can travel to other places in the world just within my own mind 🤩😍
I think YAAD by them is an amazing song that really showcases everyone's talents
This is the song to review!!!
Just have some tissues at the ready
Any song about dogs is a song I can get behind.
Another great song of theirs playing with The Snake Charmer a Female Bagpiper from India the song which I am referring to is called New Way Forward Indian music, meets Celtic music; another great fusion song. Thanks again.
Been a fan of both Metal music and Indian music for quite a long time. Metal since I heard Iron-Maiden for the fist time (think I was 14 now 50.) Indian music was when I moved to Texas. Believe it the city next to where I live (Colleyville) has quite a large Indian population so large there is an India Radio station. Though I do not know the language I just love the music. Quite happy music for sure.
OMG! I just started listening to this band a few months ago. Fire! Thanx Elezabeth
So glad you finally got to react to Bloodywood! Ari Ari is the beginning of a wonderful journey! It gets better with every song!
I was so surprised to see that you reacted to this song, my reaction was worth recording too
Now Elizabeth has to react to more South Asian artists . Coke Studio Pakistan and Nescafe Basement from Pakistan have decades of song in all flavours imaginable. My special recommendation would be AR Rahman's NIS DIN track for pure compostional treat and vocal wizardry and Strings' DUUR Red Bull Live version and AGAM's MIST OF CAPRICORN and ONWARDS AND UPWARDS for the flavour of INDIAN CLASSICAL CARNATIC METAL. The list is endless. Love from India 🇮🇳
Wormrot too maybe 🤭

Hello Elisabeth ! Really enjoying your react to Bloodywood.
This group is amazing, their album Rakshak blew me away from start to finish.
If you want to continue reacting their songs, I can recommend you few more : Gaddar for the lyrics, Aaj for the music arrangement or Dana dan for their vocal qualities 😉
Oooooooooooooooooooooh Elizabeth is trying out Bloodywood!!! Really hope you stick to them for a little, as they have some INCREDIBLE songs out there. 'Aaj' will be a favourite of yours, I'd bet. Gaddaar and Dana Dan are a bit heavier and have some amazing messages to push out into the world. Thank you for this analysis and reaction.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!! I AM SO EXCITED FOR BLOODYWOOD.
I love you described listening to them as a treasure. Between the incredible musical fusion, talent and message of their songs, Bloodywood is truly a gift to the metal world.
They started out doing covers and this was the one where everything clicked. It's a cover of a Bombay Rockers song, an indian band who was quite successful in india (and denmark for some reason). This was the first song with a rap part and this became the formula of success for the band. I've seen them live in germany before the pandemic and I might see them on festivals again later this year. After this song they started releasing original songs, and they are even better than their covers.
When you said it might be hard to play guitar on the back of a camel I thought "that's nothing, try playing a guitar in outer space" and that brings me to an idea for a reaction, because you could react to the best singer in outer space ever. Astronaut Chris Hadfield, who actually recorded a record of cover songs when he was on the ISS. For his cover of David Bowie's Space Oddity, there is a music video that was shot on the ISS aswell. He also spoke about how being in zero G changes your voice and affects singing, so that is definetly something new to explore. Appearently earth's gravity drains your head of liquid, so in zero G your tongue is bigger and it's harder to hit lower notes. The Space Oddity video you can easily find on youtube and a 20min podcast about singing and playing guitar in space you can find on soundcloud "Space Sessions: Songs From a Tin Can - Making Of".
Their album Rakshak is just AMAZINGGGGG!!
YESSSSSSS, I love these dudes. CZcams made a great choice in randomly recommending their video to me a while back.

I would love to see your reaction to Bloodywood's "Zanjeero se" It's my favorite song on their album Rakshak.
I suffer from depression, agoraphobia and crap and I haven't been to a concert in years. But when they dropped their album, I bought a ticket to one of their shows in my country next year the same day, they enthused me so much! I really really love what they're doing.
I never gave these guys a chance, thought it wouldn't be to my taste. Boy was I wrong. Now one of my favourite bands. I have to thank Tank, his podcast with Karan was what got me to give them a listen. Karan just seems like a really interesting and likeable guy that I decided to listen to Gadaar. I'm glad you've had the opportunity to check Bloodywood out. They're an amazing band. All their tracks have a message and everything, including the videos and their new album, is self produced. Their track Dana Dan is well worth a look, just make sure you turn on the captions as it's worth having the lyrics up, be warned though the lyrics are full on. . It's also worth checking out Raoul Kerr's track 'For Her' done with his band No Flag before he joined Bloodywood full time.

I've been playing and enjoying their first album 'Rahshak', which is one of the top albums of the year, IMHO. This particular song is not on it, and somehow I'd missed hearing it earlier, so thanks for that. I do think that nearly every comment you made about this song also applies to every Bloodywood song I've heard. So much musical skill, such great song writing, such passion for what they do. I have to thank Tank the Tech for my first introduction to them. 'Gaddar', 'Aaj', and 'Dana Dan' have such great videos.

I was telling my wife about your videos and was trying so hard to find a video I thought I had seen... a reaction to the Journey classic, Don't Stop Believing (the amazing live performance with Steve Perry in the yellow shirt), but alas... it was nowhere to be found. Apparently it was another channel I saw it on. So... I would like to suggest a reaction video. Journey. Don't Stop Believing. Live version. There are other songs from that concert available on YT, as well. Stone in Love, Mother Father... such a fantastic performance. The 80s were my "music years", and Don't Stop Believing can still raise the hair on my arms. Amazing. Just throwing it out there. Love your videos!
Can not wait for this... Bloodywood is just phenomenal.
I love Bloodywood. Their music is epic and they always have great messages in their songs. They did a great song about mental health and not being ashamed of it and stuff. Can't remember the name of it but you need to check it out
Yesss. Now please do yourself and us a favor by reacting to all of their singles. You won't regret it! Each song has such a positive message.
such a wonderful a humble band, every song has a genuine meaning, from unity, to mental health and grief. they genuinely in the messages theyre singing about..to the extent they aid out of their own pocket for i think it was 60 thereoy sessions for any of their fans to use. for a band to do that when they're backed only by patreon dontations is something else.
throw in karan being the one who mixes every song, edits every video and so much more without professinal help is insane. they've grown so much from this video, and their debut is something truly outstanding. and i wont even mention how truly fecing wonderful the fan base is eitheer
So great you discovered them! They have so many great songs. I can highly recommend Dana-Dan, Gaddaar and their awesome hymn Jee Veerey
Bloodywood are amazing band, you should check all their videos, they didn't have even one bad one.
And as we're going folk-infused metal, please check Myrath, prog-metal band from Tunisia : )
SO HAPPY that you got Bloodywood on here! MORE!!! Any song of theirs is sooooo goood. And if you want to bawl your eyes out... "Yaad" will surely do that to ya.
I don't know if it has been suggested yet, but you should really check out Dir En Grey (Japan). Kyo's range is astounding and how he flips between techniques on the fly.
It never fails - I listen to a Bloodywood song, I wind up teary-eyed
The double-header drum is dhol. They have great lyrics, recommended!
Bloodywood are amazing! You should checkout "Aaj" or "Yaad" by them next! Aaj is uplifting! Yaad is hella sad!
I really enjoyed this, thank you! Bloodywood have become one of my favourite bands and we have tickets to see them!
All their songs are good, but Jee Veeray is something really special, a song about depression that really spoke to me and I think must have been written but someone who has suffered depression themselves.
Dana Dan is heavy and powerful that touches on a very sensitive, but important topic.
Yaad is sad and intensely beautiful, with an awesome message at the end.
Aaj is a masterpiece.
You need to react to “Jee Veerey”, it is a real heart puller.
Uhuuuu finally! Love them, all the musics have an important message: depression, bullying, losing someone, rape...
I was so pleasantly surprised see this here! I dont know why seeing as how diverse this channel is . Absolutely loved this song for years and the breakdown was superb as usual! I need to get on Patreon to start campaigning for the Tonight Tonight video by the Smashing Pumpkins
I want to thank you for playing this. Never heard of it and fell in love with this song from hearing it from you! Thank you!
Anybody who writes about power gained through diversity just gets it. !!!!
WE ARE POWERFUL
WE ARE DIVERSE
WE ARE HUMAN !!!! ❤❤❤ Just in case any body is wondering , it will be METAL that solves for WORLD PEACE.
It has been a long wait since first time hearing Bloodywood covers like "Mundian to Bach Ke Rahi" and "Tunak Tunak Tun" and getting into sound of this group. Ari Ari gave huge expectations, but still their finally released first album Rakshak went over those, great record with all great songs, one of best albums 2022 for sure!
They've definitely put in a lot of work crafting their sound and an audience. They're fresh enough that I think their album could have been "fine" and still been satisfying - but instead it's *awesome*.
It would be amazing to see you react to their other songs too
My husband has been listening to Jinjer their song "pisces" and many more!! wow i was blown away when my husband had me listen to them!! we are big heavy metal fans.
