I had almost totally blocked out what I ate during my childhood but then I walked down the freezer aisle and noticed the encore dinners and it gave me a flashback realizing that my mom pretty much just cooked us an encore dinner every single night
@@BrunoHeggli-zp3nlI'm not sure if you knew this, but many organic and "unprocessed" (all foods sold in stores are processed to some extent) foods are out of budget range for many lower-budget households. Also considering how many people with kids have to work a lot just to make enough money to support their families, dinner can be a time crunch and doesn't always allow for more than spaghetti or hamburger helper.
Love the Sweeney Todd reference. Technically speaking that would be a cottage pie. A shepherd pie is made with lamb, hence the name shepherd. Whereas cottage pie is made with beef. But most people don’t know the difference. Either way it’s delicious.
While some of that cheap food is sus lol this channel I one of my favorites. So many people are going through hunger right now. This is so educational.
I love your videos. So often in budgeting groups people complain about California grocery prices. While I agree there definitely is an increase you show how to stay within a budget. Most items you show are the same price I get here in Wisconsin.
😂 Where are these magical, fully stocked, nice looking dollar trees at? Half the time mine has barely stocked shelves, things are completely sold out, i have never seen eggs there lol i wanna make these things and i cant find the ingredients.
Bro.. if those are banquet sausage gravy pies on the shelf under the cheese you gotta use them in a casserole with hash browns and eggs.. they are soooo good
I grew up eating shepherds pie but we put green beans and tomatoes chunks in it and whole lot of cheese we even top it with cheese cause yeah there no such thing as to much cheese. Shepherds pie was the first thing I learned how to cook
Just a little hint* if you use the s shaped potato masher to mash up your ground meat when you brown it, it will make it very small pieces and not chunks. I just dislike chunks of hambuger meat because its not flavorful at all and has a weird texture. So i love using it to make it really small ground pieces. 😊
Try the same thing but add tomato paste. Also instead of smoothing the potatoes use a fork to create ridges in the potatoes for extra crispyness. Looks delicious!!
I don’t care about the calories, eat up!!! I care about what you’re feeding yourself and the family, those foods are full of chemicals, nothing real about most of what you purchase. All love. ❤️
As Brit I will say it’s Shepard’s pie. 🥧 f you are struggling and that is all you can get it’s Shepard’s pie. As someone who grew up with a mum who had to work and make ends meet. She would cook is Shepard’s pie that wouldn’t be a technically correct dish. But we had to eat and it was to my young mind the correct dish. End of debate.
@@derrickallen8138 First you are wrong, second it is a pie since the definition of pie says TYPICALLY with a top or bottom pastry crust... Typically not always. So TECHNICALLY it is a pie.

having high blood pressure, I'd probably use garlic powder instead of garlic salt... otherwise looks pretty dang good. I'm in MN, & my fave frozen mixed veg to use for just about anything is the blend that contains carrots, corn, green beans, peas, & baby lima beans. Dunno if it has a proper name or not.
I just KNEW i would see the comments saying “🤓AcTuALLy this is Cottage Pie not Shepards Pie🤓” We Know. We Don’t Care. People in America call it shepards pie.. he’s in California, not the U.K.
With beef its called a cottage pie, chicken: terers pie, pork: swineherders pie pork and chicken dont actually have names but those are the names of farmers who farm those animals. I think it makes more sense than saying "chicken shepards pie"
Id rather use a real potato. Cut it up with skin on and cook it while the rest is cooking. Crash mashe with masher then add the butter and milk etc then spoon it over the dinner even somewhat kumpy chunky with mashed combined. Puts more texture to it plus more nutritional. Sometimes try using a combination of yams and red ..
From someone that grew up poor and still don’t have a lot of money these videos are amazing! I enjoy just watching them but I have made a few 🤝

This one is a cottage pie, no sheep no Shepard

yo this is one of my favorite meals ever :) nice
Shepard's pie uses lamb, cottage pie uses beef. :)
Not in America
Never heard of that distinction. But I have heard of a Cumberland pie and it sounds like a step up.
He already made a joke about it
Sheppard's pie can use beef or lamb:)

Nahhhh dude you lost me this time. 😂😂
I believe it's cottage pie with ground beef? I could be completely wrong tho. Looks banging regardless
That Family Dollar doesn’t look like it’s in the bad part of town like my local one does
Love to see you do a a dollar store cook book
Is it peppered with actually Shepard on top?

If it is made with beef technically it is a cottage pie. Shephard's pie is specifically lamb. But Cottage Pies are delicious as well
Yep, I like cottage pies
not a big fan of Lamb
Also technically not a pie if there's not a crust on the bottom and sides

Cottage pie! 😆

Cottage pie beef, Shepard's pie lamb
Shepherd's pie peppered with actual shepherd on top...
