മൂട്ടകളുടെ അമ്പരപ്പിക്കുന്ന ജീവിതം Bed Bug Biology and Behavior

മൂട്ടകൾ മനുഷ്യർക്കൊപ്പം ജീവിതം തുടങ്ങീട്ട് ആയിരക്കണക്കിന് വർഷമായി. Cimex lectularius എന്നാണിതിന്റെ ശാസ്ത്ര നാമം സിമിസിഡെ കുടുംബത്തിൽ പെട്ട ഈ ചോരകുടിയൻ പരാദജീവി കാഴ്ചക്ക് വളരെ ചെറുതാണ്. ചുകപ്പ് കലർന്ന ബ്രൗൺ നിറം. അര സെന്റീമീറ്ററിനടുത്ത് നീളം, പരിചയമില്ലാത്തവർക്ക് കാഴ്ചയിൽ വളരെചെറിയ കുഞ്ഞുപാറ്റയാണെന്ന് തോന്നും. വിരിഞ്ഞിറങ്ങിയ ഉടനുള്ള മൂട്ടകുഞ്ഞുങ്ങൾക്ക് നിറം കുറവായിരിക്കും, സുതാര്യമായ ശരീരം. വളർച്ച പൂർത്തിയാകുന്നതിനനുസരിച്ച്, ചോരകുടിക്കാൻ കിട്ടുന്നതിനനുസരിച്ച് കടും നിറത്തിലേക്ക് മാറും. ഉറുമ്പിന്റേതുപോലെ ജോറായുള്ള ഓട്ടമാണ് ഇവർക്ക്. ചോര മാത്രമാണിതിന്റെ ഭക്ഷണം . പകലൊക്കെ കിടക്കയുടെ ചുളിവുകൾക്കുള്ളിലും മരവിടവുകളിലും ഒക്കെ ഒളിച്ചിരിക്കും. ഇവ രാത്രിയാണ് ചോര തേടി പുറത്തിറങ്ങുക. നമ്മുടെ ചർമ്മത്തിനുള്ളിൽ തുളച്ചാണ് ചോരകുടി. കാര്യമായ ഭീകര ഉപദ്രവമൊന്നും ഇവയുടെ കടികൊണ്ട് നമുക്ക് ഉണ്ടാകുന്നില്ലെങ്കിലും, വല്ലാത്തൊരു ശല്യക്കാരാണിവർ. കടികിട്ടിയ സ്ഥലത്ത് ചൊറിച്ചിലും, തൊലിയിൽ തിണിർപ്പും, ചുവന്ന പാടും ഒക്കെ ചിലർക്ക് ഉണ്ടാകും. അപൂർവ്വം ചിലർക്ക് കടുത്ത അലർജി ലക്ഷണങ്ങൾ കാണും. കുറച്ച് പേർക്ക് മാനസികമായ വിഭ്രമമായിരിക്കും ഉണ്ടാകുക. മൂട്ടകടിക്കുമോ എന്ന പേടികൊണ്ട് ഉറങ്ങാതെ തിരിഞ്ഞും മറിഞ്ഞും കിടന്ന്, ഇടക്ക് കിടക്കവിരിയിൽ മൂട്ടയെ തിരഞ്ഞ്, നേരം പുലർത്തും അവർ. ചോരകുടിക്കുമെങ്കിലും കൊതുകുകളെപ്പോലെ അതിന്റെ കൂടെ രോഗം പകർത്തുന്ന പരിപാടിയൊന്നും മൂട്ടകൾക്കില്ല. (അപൂർവ്വമായി ആർബോ വൈറസുകൾ ഇവയിലൂടെ പകരുന്നതായി കണ്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്.) ഐഡ്സും മഞ്ഞപ്പിത്തവും ഒന്നും മൂട്ടകടിയിലൂടെ പകരുന്നതായി ഇതുവരെ കണ്ടെത്തീട്ടില്ല എന്നത് ആശ്വാസം . മൂട്ടകളുടെ ഇണ ചേരൽ ഒരു തരം മാരക പ്രവർത്തി ആണ്. ആൺ മൂട്ട പെൺ മൂട്ടയിലെ മുതുകത്ത് കയറി ഡ്രില്ലർ പോലുള്ള ലിംഗം കൊണ്ട് അക്ഷരാർത്ഥത്തിൽ തുരക്കും. എന്നിട്ട് ശരീരത്തിനുള്ളിലേക്ക് ബീജാണുക്കളെ കടത്തിവിടും -
മനുഷ്യർക്കൊപ്പം പരാദജീവിയായി ജീവിക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങിയ ഇവ അതിജീവനത്തിനുള്ള അപാരമായ കഴിവുകൾ നേടീട്ടുണ്ട്
