  • Hello and a warm welcome ladies and gentlemen!
    Donspektor here, today with a donboxing of a device you most likely never have heard of: the Lenovo X5, not to confuse with all other Lenovo X products this one is a bone conduction headphone with 8GB of internal storage and an IPX8 rating. Its main use-case is sport and as somebody who does sport from time to time, I'll be taking a closer look at it today and in my review in the future.
    If you have any questions, criticisms or any other feedback, please leave a comment.
    Donspektor!
    Out!

    What exactly is "real" bone conduction? I see it on cheaper models, claiming they aren't real bone conduction and just a loudspeaker. But isn't that basically 'any' bone conduction headphone? Dont the higher end bone conductions like Shokz also have loudspeakers?

    • @don_spektor
      @don_spektor  Před rokem

      "Real" means, the transducer (meaning the unit that produces sound) is actually made for transducing sound through the temple bone. For this, you need specific frequency response and driver technology.
      Non-"real" means that you will obviously get some sound via the temple bone, even though the driver isn't built for it. It just won't work as effectively.
      Not to my knowledge. They just have better bone conduction transducers.

      That's also what I criticized in my review: the silicone cover that makes this actually IPX7 watertight is flimsy and you need to be REALLY CAREFUL to put it on there properly. Hence, I only recommended this for running.

      Depends on your expectation: if you are looking for something for sport, it's totally passable. Not catastrophic v-shaped or A-shaped. There absolutely is a roll-off in the bass so you should not expect anything there but overall I found the balance on my head/bone to be fine with a bit of mid-to-upper-treble spice that could potentially be a bit too much for some.
      Will try to measure it but can not promise the result to be representative due to the nature of the IEC711 coupler + soft pinna.

  • @1IGG
    @1IGG Před rokem

    Dude, if ONE side of a headset is open, because of the charging port, you need only ONE cover. So, it has nothing to do with the price. Where did you buy yours (exact link)? Most of them are fake.

    • @don_spektor
      @don_spektor  Před rokem

      Yes, but due to lack of information on the produce page and me literally opening the box here, I didn't know that until I had it fully unboxed.
      The store carrying the X5 unfortunately no longer has it listed. It is called "3C Drop Shipping Store". And from what I can see and read about it, my unit seems to be identical to the "real" ones, which isn't surprising as this unit is china-main-market only and Lenovo is also just using a random OEM on which it then prints its name.

  • @fabiosousa8678
    @fabiosousa8678 Před 2 lety +1

    I didn't like the volume capacity, it is not loud enough when you are in a noisy environment like a gym, you can't hear the songs well, also the quality of the sound is not very good, the main thing the headphone can't do well, so I don't recommend anyone to buy this one.

    • @don_spektor
      @don_spektor  Před 2 lety +2

      I can see that being a problem. In my region when I usually go for a job, it is relatively quiet but even there, if I get closer to the main street it struggles a bit to be loud enough.
      Although generally, I would suggest not max the X5: it does distort at max or close to max volume and it definitively is loud enough to cause an additional determination of your eardrums if you listen to it for longer periods of time.

    • @fabiosousa8678
      @fabiosousa8678 Před 2 lety

      @@don_spektor Do you use it outside of your ear? Because it is supposed to be bone conduction. Or do you use it inside of the ear? If you use it inside of the ear, the volume may be loud enough to hear the songs in a noisy environment, but it is still too low if you compare it to other headphones, also this headphone was not built to use inside of the ear, because if you do some sport like running, you won't feel comfortable with it inside the ear, it will drop many times from your ear.

    • @don_spektor
      @don_spektor  Před 2 lety

      @@fabiosousa8678 Well as the name suggests, I use it on the temporal bone, placed a bit in front of the outer ear. It does stay there okay, would prefer an adjustment of the strap behind my head for really safe positioning but generally it roughly stays where it is supposed to.
      That's how it is supposed to be worn and as I wrote before: in my area, non main street it does get loud enough. But for louder environments, where hearing your surroundings is not crucial, open solutions like this might not be optimal for you, as they literally block zero noise from the outside. Alternatively, you could use earplugs in combination with the bone conduction headphone, but then you could also buy sports in-ears.

    • @fabiosousa8678
      @fabiosousa8678 Před 2 lety

      @@don_spektor I don't think this headphone is really bone conduction, you can listen to the sound if you hold it in your hand, so it is the same "effect" that makes you listen to it when you put it on the temporal bone.
      I had Lenovo X3, it is similar, you can hear it while holding it in your hand, but at least I could hear it at a great volume in my gym. I will return this Lenovo X5, and bought again the Lenovo X3. Thank you anyway.

    • @don_spektor
      @don_spektor  Před 2 lety

      @@fabiosousa8678 Bone as well as non bone conduction headphones create sound by bringing matter into a vibrating/small wave motion. So it can very much happen, that "bone conduction" also is audible without any bone as the driver will also bring the air in front of it into motion.
      Remind you, this doesn't mean, this driver here actually is a real "bone conduction" driver. But at least judging from my experience: it definitively does conduct sound through my bone, which I did check by holding my ear canal closed. And as I wrote before, it also is loud enough for me in all situations besides jogging at main street. So here it could either be that your unit is not as loud as mine or it doesn't fit you as well as the X3 did or the driver itself simply isn't as good as in the X3 or, as you stated before, the driver isn't a "real bone conduction" driver. Also multiple things could be true here at the same time.
      But generally from what I see, you are absolutely right in returning the X5, as it simply does not work for you. The only reason I can see to go for the X5 anyway is the 8GB storage.

      @@juriaanoussoren Unlikely, neither Samsung nor Apple or anybody else can afford "buying" the competition.
      And USB-C itself doesn't really say much besides the type of plug used. Some Chinese brands manage more than 100 watts via USB-C, which definitively isn't "spec" of any standard I know.
      So even apples "argument", a unified plug is "bad" is stupid because just having a plug with standards doesn't mean you can't extend them with your own stuff.
      I think they went for this plug, because it is more space efficient: instead of having a plug that reaches inside, you directly have contacts that can be soldered directly to the surface.

    Hi Don
    Ich habe eine Bitte an dich,ich suche ein paar kabelgebundene IEMs,da der Markt mittlerweile unübersichtlich ist und die Anzahl der CZcamsr Rezessionen ebenso, da auch mein Englisch leider nicht so gut Ist, verstehe ich nicht alles.
    Ich suche einen guten Allrounder,da ich querbeet höre,da müsste alles passen tiefen, mitten, Höhen und der Bass sollte auch gut miteinander harmonieren,mein Budget wäre bis 300 Euro,weniger wäre mich Recht für einen mobilen DAC AMP noch vielleicht,wenn er überhaupt notwendig ist um Musik zu hören,freue mich von deinem Wissen zu profitieren.

      @don_spektor  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey Bal Al :-)
      Erst mal folgendes: wie häufig hörst du denn Musik? Bis 300€ ist schon ne ganze Menge Geld und wenn du den IEM eh nicht täglich nutzt, dann wäre zwischen 80-100€ schon einiges auf dem Markt was zu Empfehlen ist. Als mit bester Allrounder gäbe es den Moondrop Aria 2021. Alternativ Dunu Titan S wenn du es etwas heller (sprich Höhen sind etwas mehr betont) magst. Als "Upgrade" von da aus wären dann die ersten Planar IEMs zu empfehlen: Timeless, Shuoer S12 (etwas heller).
      Außerdem: mit was gibst du aktuell denn Musik wieder? Wenn du das vom Smartphone machst, dann musst du normal keinen extra DAC/AMP nehmen. Das gibt dir vielleicht 10-15% bessere "Performance" aber wirklich lohnend ist so ne Anschaffung nicht.
      Ich persönlich würde, wenn du wirklich nen DAC/AMP möchtest eher nen Bluetooth Receiver empfehlen: Fiio BTR3k wenn es etwas günstiger sein soll oder BTR5. Alternativ wäre auch der Qudelix 5K sehr zu empfehlen, gerade weil der Signal-Pass-Through hat, so dass du ihn am PC usw. via USB nutzen kannst ohne dass der Akku geladen wird (und die besten EQ Funktionen aller BT Receiver hat er auch).
      Hoffe das hilft. Falls du noch fragen hast, einfach hier antworten :-)

      Ich höre täglich Musik auf meinem Sony Xperia 1 iv über tidal und ich gebe dir Recht,das man nicht viel Geld zahlen sollte für Iems,ich wollte nur was vernünftiges da ich sie über Jahre nutzen wollte,meine 1more Triple Driver habe ich seit über 6 Jahren.
      Hätte aber nichts dagegen wenn die günstigster sind aber trotzdem gut,da ich gerne querbeet höre, sollte er alles abdecken,ich mag nicht wenn die Töne schrillend hoch sind,oder tief und dumpf,klar sollte der Sound sein kein zischeln oder schwammige vibrierende Bässe,man muß eben sich in die Musik vertiefen können auch wenn man die Musik ändert, ohne immer großartig am EQ rum zu fummeln,hoffe das meine Wünsche überhaupt realisierbar sind ,ohne dabei viel auszugeben.
      Naja ein DAC amp muß ich nicht haben unbedingt,dachte,wenn ich schon Mal dabei bin dann aber richtig,aber wir gesagt ist kein muß,die Iems sind mir wichtiger.

      @@Hal-ms9bn Mit dem Smartphone und Einsatzbereich ist trotzdem sowas wie der Moondrop Aria 2021 ein guter Einstieg. Der ist sehr gut getuned und hat für den Preis ebenfalls gute "Technicallities" (z.B. Soundstage, Details usw.).
      Wie vorher geschrieben wäre das nächste Upgrade davon sowas wie der Timeless oder S12. Die sind definitiv "besser klingend", aber definitiv nicht "doppelt so gut".
      Grundsätzlich gilt, je teurer ein Audio-Produkt wird, desto wenig bekommt man "mehr". Sprich, ein 1000€ IEM ist nur unwesentlich besser als es ein 700€ IEM ist welcher wiederum nur unwesentlich besser ist als ein 300€ IEM usw.
      Und Stand 2022 gibt es im etwa 70-100€ Bereich schon so gute IEMs, dass es sich eigentlich nicht wirklich lohnt noch teurere Produkte zu nehmen, da man dort nicht wirklich viel mehr bekommt^^

      @@Hal-ms9bn Der Airship ist ein Dynamic-Driver. Hook X ist ein Hybrid (Piezoelectic+"Boneconduction"), nur der S12 wäre ein reiner Planar.
      Hook X ist am entspanntesten von denen und für lange Höre-Sessions gut geeignet, ist aber halb offen und somit für unterwegs eher ungeeignet. S12 ist heller und kann ohne EQ vielleicht zu viel werden, aber dafür deutlich günstiger als Hook X.
      Würde zu S12 raten, im schlimmsten Fall macht man etwas EQ und reduziert die Höhen etwas. Oder du nimmst Tips, die das ohnehin machen z.B. Final E.
      Ja hab ich: Spinfits sind super bequem, haben nur nicht so ne dolle Isolation. Für den S12 würde ich wahrscheinlich am ehesten Final E empfehlen: die reduzieren Höhen etwas und machen den Bass etwas besser.
