    I'm an American soldier (since 2010) and a former Philippine Army soldier (1996-2007).
    My high respect to all comrades in arms. You have my snappy salute! Sa totoo lang mas mahirap ang training diyan sa Pinas (mas 1. brutal, 2. mahaba/matagal, 3. kulang sa pagkain, 4. kulang sa kagamitan).
    Facts comparison:
    US Army Basic Combat Training is 9-10 weeks. PHI Army Basic Training is 6 months.
    US Army Ranger 'School' is 62 days. US Army Ranger 'Assessment and Selection' prog. is 8 weeks.
    While the PHI Army Scout Ranger Operation Course training is 8 Months + more during 'Test Mission' against REAL enemies. (Wala silang totoong Test Mission katulad ng sa FSRR bago maka graduate). Meron sila dati sa 'RECONDO' pero tinanggal na kc merong nasusugatan at namamatay noong Vietnam war era.
    Kahit saan man sila mag set up ng detachment or temporary camp meron palaging portable kasilyas/kubeta. Merong supply sa tubig, hand sanitizer, sunblock, etc. Habang sa Pinoy talagang pure 'Survival'.
    My honest and humble experiences / observations. Kaya dapat ipagmamalaki ninyo ang mga Pinoy Warriors.

    -In Japan, kids are taught how the Filipino military is considered one of the best in terms of raw talent but are not really considered strong nowadays in terms of firepower due to their outdated weapons and lack of hardware, they don't even have a single tank if I remembered it right. Even the JSDF had to give respect to the Filipino army.
    There was a time when the Filipino military was second in terms of firepower in Asia, just behind Japan. I think around the Vietnam War--- 1960s or 70s, the Philippines only sent a few delegates because their country was battling communists and terrorists as well and had to declare martial law (?).
    -In Korea, the Battle of Yultong was considered to be the turning point of the Korean War. If Filipinos lost that battle, there won't be a South Korea. It was being taught in schools before, idk about now.
    -Also, I read a book back then that after the Korean War, the Filipino government taught South Korea how to build ships, and today, the Philippines doesn't even have a single Destroyer made. Forgot what book it was, it had a bloody red cover.
    My elective major in Uni was Geopolitics in Greater East Asia. ^_^

      @sudoren7572 Před 4 lety +36

      True! Before WW2, the US-Filipino (USAFFE) military was ill-equipped but very well-trained and highly-experienced. The regular military put up such a fight before surrendering that the Japanese schedule to conquer the PH turned from 6 weeks to 6 months, thereby delaying its timetable to invade other parts of Asia and eventually Australia. Even then, the Japanese could only truly hold 12 out of 48 Philippine provinces because of the fierce local guerrilla resistance that even rose to 160,000 (iirc) fighters before the Americans returned. Nowadays though, the AFP Modernization program of the last six (?) years (and going) is finally paying off. The Philippine military looks well-equipped now and there are a bunch of videos on CZcams. The Army, Air Force, Navy, and even the Coast Guard are beginning to look super cool and modern
      The Philippines was one of the most economically advanced countries in the region even after WW2, but one of the fatal flaws was that it didn't have the same conditions to stay that way. Unlike the west, the market wasn't truly free and was bogged by nepotism, corruption, and family monopolies (a legacy from the previous Spanish colonialism) and although the government was democratic, democratic values weren't themselves effectively inculcated into the populace by the American colonialists.
      The Battle of Yultong was pretty awesome too. 40,000 vs ~1,300 Filipinos, 3 other allied nations got overrun and had to retreat, and the PH held the line long enough for UN forces to regroup. China admits to only 500 casualties from Filipinos because that's only how many bodies the Filipinos counted themselves. However some sources put that number to a few thousands. Only around 15 Filipino soldiers died. Also there are a number of important buildings in Seoul built by Filipinos during reconstruction
      Can I ask where I can learn about the Japanese schools teaching about the PH military? Sounds interesting =D

      @sakinomura9482 Před 4 lety +15

      @@sudoren7572 I think it was in junior high under social studies, they really don't teach more about the PH military itself but the cooperation between Japan-Philippines since the end of WW2 and the relationship of Japan with other Asian countries as well as comparing the current military power of each.
      For Geopolitics in Greater East Asia, I only know about Keidai and Kyodai maybe Todai as well. I heard tho that they changed the curriculum or removed this as an elective.

    I've experienced this kind of training in 1985 when I was included in the scout rangers training. It's so hard and where we used two gun's the M16 & the cal 45 and commando knife. We boarded a helicopter and was dump in the river at night time without any emergency life jackets. Even our food rations were given in full amount and was ordered to eat until you can't take anymore, and all you can do is to vomit hard.
    We also did the bayonet training. Crawling in the dirty canal is too much to withstand.
    Thanks God after 6 months I finished the training. Now I'm a commando reservist.

      My assignment was in Maguindanao. To do clandestine operations of gathering information about the Camp Abubakar. Eventually the Camp Abubakar didn't last longer for it was overtaken by my fellow comrades - Philippine Scout Rangers.
      To stay alive I have to live with the rebels Abu Sayaf eat what they eat and befriended them so they won't know that I'm spying on their fortified Camp. There were times when I have to dodge shrieking bullet's from sniper's and lay flat on the ground for falling bombs from the government troops.

      And he handed a gift to my family ... A plaque of the different kinds of bolos/machetes (with names) that they used during trainings ... It's scary to look at but it's amazing to realize that there are so many kinds of machetes in the Philippines and he gave his mom the souvenirs that he had while on training, that included the list of every scout (with profiles) in his batch that made it... He left home because he has a dream, before he reached legal age to join, he used to do hard jobs just to support himself, he stayed at our relatives in Manila, he used to be a water boy, balot vendor, selling rosary beads and various holy statues that he sold from a house to another house and through letters he told his mother how much he loves her and there's always "Pray for me mama that I will succeed" at the end..and then we lost contact with him, no more letters, his mother got worried so much... But he surprised us, he came home one day with a package that he handed to his mother right away, all the proofs that he's a successful scout ranger..from a broken family, at 14 he stopped school for he was bullied, left home promised to stand for himself, came home successful.... To watch this video made me even prouder of him..

    This is why scout ranger of the Philippines is not just something. I salute to all scout rangers who finish the training and graduated because they have the exceptional stamina and they can survive any painful and hard circumstances when they are in battle. They also have amazing snipers and the best about strategic plans when they are under war. I have so much respect to them. Proud to be Filipino. 👌👌👌👌

    Was a former Philippine Army Green Beret myself. Worked alongside the Scout Rangers before.The Chili thing from my perspective it's to see who can eat anything when needed. Since sometimes the food you must eat to survive is out of your comfort zone. It's to know who can follow orders no matter how (disgusting, dangerous, Unethical, Crazy or Even Deadly) that's my take on it. Such intense comrades they are.😎👍
