One request: Toward the end when you were demonstrating a border, I couldn’t quite see how you turned the corner. I know a border wasn’t the point of this video but after what you taught about a granny square, I want to know your way of doing borders!! 😄😄😄❤

What a great tutorial, I used to do turning chains too all those years but since I have learned about the stacked single crochet stitch I have never looked back and always do only one chain in my corners too, never turn my work either 😅I am so impressed, you are such a talented person and wonderful inspiration to so many of us out there, bless you 🙌🙌👍💕🙏🏻

This is a complete game changer. I did the turning chains, the slip stitches to the next space. This looks 100% prettier. I've been using the stacked single for years but never thought to incorporate it here. Thank you so much. I love it, I love it, I love it!!

Very well demonstrated. Thank you I like the way you remind ine of the bigger picture -great for one who likes to be reminded where one is heading😊. Great result, looks good! Rave rave. No nonsense or distracting music & I like the sense of humour - there you are. Granny squares are great for presebts for “new” grandmums. 💓

  • @beccabbea2511
    @beccabbea2511 Před 5 měsíci +2

I decided I had better get this firmly fixed in my brain so decided to play and then I remember those times when I had the oops moment.
There you are, you are crocheting a humongous granny square/ oblong that takes forever to complete a round and there it is a two cluster granny! There’s four options
    1. leave and call it your non deliberate mistake!
    2. Patch in a stitch.
    3. Grit your teeth and pull it out and redo the round or
    4. Do a drop stitch.
Not being a fan of pulling out hundreds of stitches and knowing a two granny cluster would annoy the heck out of me I worked this out. Instructions in UK speak.
Work the three trebles in the gap before the two trebles cluster.
Instead of one loop around the hook work as if for a double treble (3 loops on hook). Insert the hook into the gap to the left of the two trebles from behind the two granny round. (You are working the first part at the back of the square). Pull through yarn, yarn on hook , pull through 2 loops, 3 loops on hook, work one chain. Bring the hook to the front of the work, pull through a loop. 4 loops on hook. Yarn on hook work through 3 loops, finish treble. Keep stitch a little looser but not too loose.
It sounds complicated but really it isn’t and beats undoing a round that took forever to do in the first place. I hope this helps someone, who, like me who can’t leave mistakes alone.

Wow! You've taught an old dog a new trick! When crocheting in rows, I sometimes use a standing dc to start a row but more often I use 2 stacked sc. I've never seen your technique for granny squares before...I make a lot of squares because I'm in Florida where it's warm 10 months of the year...no warm heavy throw on my lap! Thank you so much. Thank you for this informative video! I’ve never liked this chain 3 as a U.S. Dc because it’s always weird. Always doing weird stuff. I’ve been kinda winging a solution for my current project in the round, but your start is much more efficient and elegant. You explained the stacked stitch beautifully.

OK, so I'm making a granny-square-like blanket but using the V-stitch (uses less yarn and lighter for tropical climates) and I wish
I knew about this technique before I started it.
But... I've incorporated that stacked-single crochet (US terms) at the start of a round and I no longer have that tell-tale sign where
I'm joining. This is amazing! Been crocheting 50+ years and just now learning this amazing chainless starting technique! 💡

Ohh! Nice one. A great technique. Would use this technique for my granny squares from now on.
I use another technique though if I crochet in rounds. I essentially "recreate" the stitch. I look at the turning chains as incomplete stitches; they are just missing some parts. I leave a very long yarn tail which I then use to recreate the "missing parts" of the stitches. The seams are almost invisible with this technique which is why I prefer to use it even if it is a bit fiddly and uses an additional tool (a needle).

This is excellent! I’m not fond of those chains between rows or between DC clusters. 😉
Thank you so much for sharing! ❤

Thank you. I stopped using a three chain at the beginning of a row or square ages ago because I didn’t like the 'skinny' look. For the want of a better name I call this method of starting a round or row 'stacking.' I do like the way you finish the round, it’s so much better and neater. Like you I don’t do a chain between the groups of trebles because I don’t like a granny square that is too open and the other reason is I would often forget to do it, causing way too much pulling out. Once again thank you for sharing this with us. 👍

A lovely explanation of this. Can I ask you though how you would join new colours on rounds? Thanks

I usually end off at the corner and start again the stack with a new colour it’s the cleanest way

Thank you very much! I’m using the chain 1 in corner and the new way to do double crochet and also the single crochet to close the round!!!

Do you have any helpful hints on starting a round or row with a half treble (half double crochet)? Thank you again!

Yes! Ever since I first saw the stacked stitch I never went back to chaining 😃And so many granny projects done in the corner, it looks so much better. This is the first video I've seen that of how I do it. Except I turn after every round. How do you prevent the inevitable twist?

Thank you for a great tutorial. I’m relatively new to crochet and often wondered why everyone seemed to do a chain instead of a stacked stitch (I always do them at the beginning of straight rows). I thought you’d forgotten to do the chain one at the end of the first round but now I understand. ❤🎉

Personally on a granny where it’s seam free I end the colour and start again in a different corner to work in my ends as I go (saves 1 corner having both ends worked) if I don’t do that there I a small line of the previous colour that I can see that bugs me
