Great review! Really brought the game to life. I did grab this game. Haven't played it yet, but really looking forward to jumping in when I'm in the mood for scifi. I'd be interested, Deborah, in whether you knew of similar solo RPG/ jornalling games in the horror or urban fantasy genre - so vampires, werewolves, that sort of thing.

I backed this on KS. I'm not sure why because I'm normally not huge on journalling games and I don't like preordering/backing on principle, but it's fun in spite of my hang ups.
I was a little worried it'd grow thin (my biggest criticism would be a lack of tables) but I've been using it as a massive oracle for character and event inspiration in other games; it's been brilliant for that.
All you guys make this look good. Might have to seek it out. Spencer Campbell play through was using online generators provided by the creator. It really added a dimension to it as well.

My Kickstarter turned up last week and is very impressive. It is in my to play pile……
I liked a lot about this. Very elementary and straightforward, SW tropes sort of help fill the gaps or allow you to play off of them and do your own thing. It's the only solo RPG I've tried to a great degree so far but I wound up just writing a story after a few initial rolls. That tends to be my problem, if there's a lot of wiggle room I find I just start storytelling instead. I guess on the other end of the spectrum there are mechanism heavy systems but I don't know as much about those, I imagine they're harder to get into and good ones are generally rarer. I think I'll try to get back into this and see how I do.
You made a good point elsewhere that the board-gameness of a game helps ground it in a good way, and it's funny because I came at this sort of game from the opposite direction, trying to make involved board game designs that had sufficient RPG elements that encouraged you to sort of write the story between the spaces. There may still exist some more nice compromises between mechanism and evocativeness out there for people to find.
There really is no right and wrong way to play so if you play these games and end up veering off into storytelling, that’s cool. That’s just the way you play them.
I’m not a huge fan of journaling RPG but the good ones work to draw even someone like me in. I’ve enjoyed some of them (the ones you will find on my channel) a lot.
This is making me think I should create a new playlist just featuring the journaling RPGs I have covered…

Late comment but ive got the sci fi itch and seeing you and dungeon dive recommend notorious. Though a part of me wants to combine this game with another game the dungeon dive suggested that is space aces and a spaceship wargame i bought called warfleets ftl.
Would it be possible to make the prompts of notorious more generic to allow using different settings?
How replayable would you say this game is? Meaning, could I play each different bounty hunter and get different stories every time?
Slightly... you would be limited by the length and quantity of the random tables eventually.

There is 2 suplements for Ronin: Shinobi and Sohei.
Sohei is about samurai monks that hunts youkais.
I will probrably send to drivethru and itch as soon as i finish to translate them.

Started playing the game today. It seems killing is the way to progress. To gain noteriety. So I've started to just kill people in my story. Major or minor rivals. With little reason.
Considering the definition of "notoriety", it's consistent. You're not really given the option of killing people who haven't asked for it.
