  • How to walk to the Southampton Cruise terminals with a 20kg suitcase?
When researching how to get to the Southampton City Cruise terminal I was very surprised how close it was to the train station and from the hotels in the city centre.
The cruise company advice was to get a taxi, but according to Google it was only a 7 minute walk to the City Cruise terminal and that's coming from Southampton Station and could be even closer from a nearby hotel so I decided to walk it pulling a 20 kg suitcase to see just how hard it was.
I will cover travelling from London Waterloo Railway Station to Southampton Central Railway Station and then from there to Port Gate 10 and from the hotels in Southampton to Port Gate 8
This video is in addition to the recent history videos I normally produce. I will be doing a few more relating to cruises so please like and subscribe
Thank you for watching Eclectic Experience
The main challenge when pulling a suitcase are stairs and kerbs. Fortunately it is possible to go the whole route with hardly any obstructions, dropped kerbs and pedestrian crossings are the norm.
The direct train from Waterloo station takes about 1 hour 20 minutes and the line is run by South Western Railway.
    Includes:
    Southampton Central Railway Station
    Southampton Cruise Terminal Gate 8
    Southampton Cruise Terminal Gate 10
    Southampton City Cruise Terminal
    Southampton Mayflower Cruise Terminal
    Southampton Horizon Cruise Terminal
    Southampton Ocean Cruise Terminal
    Southampton West Quay
    Celebrity Silhouette Cruise Ship
    Southampton Bargate
    Tudor House
    Town Walls
    Holyrood church ruins
    Southampton West Quay Premier Inn
    Southampton Leonardo Royal Hotel
    Southampton Holiday Inn
    Southampton Pig in the Wall
    Southampton Novotel
    Southampton Ibis hotels

Excellent. This is so valuable a tip, and we will certainly be guided by it this year when we travel to Southampton.

Thanks! We plan to walk from the station to the hotel and possibly to the cruise terminal when we go. This makes the route very clear!

My wife and I were staying in the Pig in the Wall on the Western Esplanade and we boarded a cruise ship to Norway. I googled the route and it looked like a pretty easy walk, by my wife wasn't keen on doing it with 4 bags saying about 50 kilos in total so we took an Uber.

Thank you for this! You definitely earned all the extra cruise calories you lost! 😂

Thank you for this! I was wondering if you could walk to the terminal, and this solidified I can. Thank you for the video.

The location you ringed on the map for Ocean Cruise Terminal is in fact the Town Quay - you’ll only catch ferries to Hythe (across Southampton Water) and the Isle of Wight from here. You need to go a bit further along Platform Road to get to the Ocean Terminal. Not sure if you can reach it via Dock Gate 5 on foot, or if you have to carry on further down the road to Dock Gate 4 (which is certainly the only way to access Ocean Terminal if you are arriving by car).

Nice video, unfortunately my friend & I are leaving out of Ocean Terminal, a 30
Minute walk according to Google. I’ve been to mayflower terminal twice before, far away from Ocean terminal. It looks easy on a map but …..no, it’s far from Ocean Terminal (completely separate entrance)✌🏻safe cruising everyone

Great advice. I'm going to probably opt for an uber?

Thank you for this very helpful information. Do you think it would be safe to do the walk from the train station to the Ibis hotel late at night?

Great video! I was wondering if Gate 8 is only for the City Cruise Terminal, or if you can also walk all the way to the Horizon and Mayflower Terminal from Gate 8 as well? Thank you!

Very informative video. I really enjoyed it. I am going on my first cruise [Royal Caribbean] in September and I am staying at the Premier Inn [West Parade] the evening before. I use a powered wheelchair and was contemplating doing the journey from the hotel to the cruise terminal. I will not have any luggage with me. Do you think its dooable for me or should I consider an accessable taxi?

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. I am not sure about a powered wheel chair, some of the pavement near gate 8 is a bit rough and near gate 10 there was no dropped curb on the direct route so would probably consider a taxi to be on the cautious side. I hope you enjoy the cruise.

Which way do you turn once you walk through the Gate? Although the Horizon terminal is directly in front of you, there is a long perimeter fence. Is there a way through that car park for pedestrians or do you have to walk right around the fence?

    You can shove your suitcase.
