    The purple flower cups with a black background are beautiful; very folklore style and the classic blue cups with the *Mist* are just beautiful! I miss the sound of the seagulls in the background but if you have snow in the area we just have to wait for it. In FRA it's European sun, rain, cool weather and back to the start. My blocking is still, the free lines without messing up the cup and having the freedom to let the brush do its job. This is the difference between professionals and non-professionals! Thanks for sharing.

      Practice makes perfect and the right brush makes a huge difference.The consistency of the underglaze also makes a big difference. Good luck.

      Just High School pottery for two years. Then studied Fine Art at college for 5 years. After college I got a teaching position at a high school in Kent, UK, for 5 years . I moved to the States and set up a pottery in Ohio in 1985. It was an unusual track.

    Vaughn, I’m wondering if you can talk about using stilts. I see you use them all the time. My question is do you use them when firing plates, tiles or wide flattish bowls? If so, how do you prevent the plates etc from slumping around the stilts? Do you just use bigger, wider stilts? Or do you use 3 or 4 underneath wide pots? Thanks. I enjoyed watching your method of spontaneously drawn leaves and flowers. The black background with the bright foliage is stunning.

    • @Vsmithpots
      @Vsmithpots  Před 8 měsíci +1

      The quick answer is all of the above. I do not fire flatware on stilts. The wider the foot the wider the stilt. I hate the multi pin stilts, too much grinding.

    Hello. These are lovely. I'm new to this, so I have a question. You applied the slip and undergraze on leather hard body, then you bisque fired? and then applied transparent graze and glaze fired? Or do you just did one firing?

    with all those layers of underglaze did / do you ever have issues with buckling, bubbling, or flaking off?

    • @Vsmithpots
      @Vsmithpots  Před 27 dny +1

      If you put slips over underglazes you will get flaking, that is why I start with slips for the stencilling and paint underglazes over top. You also have to put the slips over soft clay.

    • @Vsmithpots
      @Vsmithpots  Před rokem

      Cones are confusing because they go 06,05,04 etc getting higher in temperature and then 4,5,6, etc. still going up in temperature. I fire the flower pieces to cone 4.

  • @janeneh.3093
    @janeneh.3093 Před rokem

    Is the only reason you fired your B-mix at a 4 because it saves you power? I'm assuming the reason you can get way with that is because your using underglaze with a clear top? Whereas other color glazes you wouldn't hit there potential at the lower temperature?

    • @Vsmithpots
      @Vsmithpots  Před rokem

      I use a slip that only goes up to Cone 4, as does the glaze.
