To be honest and fair, the fact that Natsu could move Gildarts from a couple of feet from the spot he was standing was low-key very impressive, considering that Gildarts was probably at least in the Top 5 of the Strongest wizards in all of Fiore, if not Top 3. There's a reason why Mashima made Gildarts a wanderer that was barely around most of the time lol. The guy would have ended the majority of Fairy Tail Arcs in 1 episode.

Like they show especially with Acnologia, rage isn't enough to beat someone so overwhelmingly stronger than you. Gildarts was right to do this, if you remember after the arc, Natsu got WAY stronger because he saw the urgency; Gildarts brought him to his knees without ever throwing a genuine attack, and Acnologia dumpstered everyone - Natsu saw that willpower alone wasn't enough against some people.
The only other person I think who could've been more proud of Natsu at this moment I feel, would've been Igneel. Natsu, despite being disassembled, still attacked Gildarts like it wasn't no thing. And had the sense enough to know when he should not engage his adversary, no matter how much he most likely wanted to. And also, the fact that Natsu was finally able to knock Gildarts back some.

And what a GREAT message, you can simply beat people who are doing stuff much longer than you, this trivialize the whole idea of effort and putting the work. There is a payoff, Natsu was able to defeat Zancrow because of what he learned from Gildarts. Natsu's powers are fueled by emotion and fear is an emotion that he has been neglecting because he didn't realize that there is power and value in fear.

If you plan on taking the IGN route that is, at least his motivations for fighting change. Besides, he backed down when Happy was involved when he raided Sabertooth. But you may as well say the same for Luffy if your on that BS.
