- Charles Dickens’ classic tale of the stingy Ebenezer Scrooge in a full-length animated musical from 1997.
Misanthropic miser Scrooge is haunted by his deceased business partner, Jacob Marley. Marley's ghost is followed by three more spirits from Christmases Past, Present, and Yet to Come. Each has a lesson Scrooge must learn.
In the course of a single night, Christmas Eve, Ebenezer’s cold heart is warmed forever and he grasps the true meaning of Christmas.
This tender tale of hope and redemption comes to life with the voices of Tim Curry, Whoopi Goldberg, Ed Asner and Michael York.

Watching it in 2023, in my 60s. The 1951 version with Alister Sim, is my favorite version.😊
I am watching it too. I will google the year and name you gave so I can watch the one you mentioned here. I. Am sure it will be great. Thank you🙏
this version is rubbish imo
That is the canonical one. No one could do Scrooge like Alistair Sim.
No one asked
@@jamieroach5755It isn't

This line is my favorite.
But its not in the original book!!!!! "I will live in the past, present and future! is the correct line
@@andyb2515 I know, but I think the line in the adaption does make a little more sense. Not every change is automatically bad.
I've been watching this for 20 years now ,in german by 16 years and english 4 years, feeling like a child all over again.
Merry Christmas for every one and an happy New Year❤
Merry Christmas to all, especially the sick, homeless and poor. May God Bless you All!

This may be a kinda weird version of Christmas Carol, but it's still a version I have a soft spot for.
Honestley, I just have a soft spot for Christmas Carol adaptations, no matter how many I see.
Me too!! I love every version out there!!! Alistair Simm version is my ultimate favourite, second is Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol animated, then the George C. Scott version n the Muppets Christmas Carol is awesome!! I even like the Kelsey Grammer musical version n any animated ones I ALWAYS watch!!! The original from 1935 is also excellent, though kind of creepy, but I guess it is supposed to be!!!Merry Christmas!!🎄⛄🎁❄️☃️

Tim Curry fits perfectly as Scrooge. I also like how in this version, he has a dog as a sidekick, similar to The Grinch.
I’d never have guessed that was Tim Curry ( who played the concierge at the hotel in Home Alone II).
Watched it for 1st time last year a timeless classic
I can remember when I was a kid watching these shows and I still like watching the now and I am 52 year old
Wew this must be so fucken old
What I love about the story of A Christmas Carol is that it really shows how people do change. It's so cool how Mr Scrooge changes from a grouchy ruthless self centered person to a kind caring friend
When JESUS came into my heart (at Christmas!), I became a New Creature! Now I must fight against the lust of the eye, the lust of the flesh and the pride of life to live VICTORIOUSLY! I allow JESUS to do THAT too through me! The war is on, and I'm in it!

In 1858 Charles Dickens came to Dublin. Ireland, and gave a reading of a Christmas Carol. He was mobbed by the citizenry and treated with adulation. Merry Christmas from Ireland 2023 🔔🌻🎁

Tim Curry and Jodi Benson have a beautiful blend of voices when their characters sing together. I had the pleasure of meeting them both, at a convention, 4 months ago, and it was a wonderful experience!
Peach Marie wow! How did Tim's health seem?
@@deidraboswell8451 He seemed like he was doing pretty well that day. I, and 2 of my friends, had a photo op with him. Of course, due to his limited mobility, they had him in a private booth, as opposed to the rest of the celebrities at that convention. His speech was slower than it used to be, but he still talks pretty well.
Peach Marie thank you

The bridge song is the thing I remember the most about this movie and it's brilliant on several levels.
Scrooge's lover is speaking of bridge as a metaphorical thing of faith, if Scrooge is willing to take the chance and invest in love, they might not be happy but they'll have each other.
Young Scrooge on the other hand, is taking the bridge metaphor both literally and cynically- speaking of the bridge as a tangible thing that needs stability and the means to make it stable- mainly money and the time to invest in it- even if it means getting underhanded to do it- relating it to business that needs constant focus over all else. The fact he's not realizing it's a metaphor, it's a sure sign that he's given up on love without even noticing it. And he becomes so obsessed that he lives ironically as poorly as the poor themselves to not give up on any wealth- it's obsession over practical sense.
The fact he's singing contradictory lyrics with his lover instead of a duet shows how out of touch he is with her feelings until they sing a duet about leaving- the only thing that they can agree on that point.
One of the better animated adaptatians
It's only September 2019 but came across this and watched it, what a wonderful little movie..can't wait for Christmas time ❤️

Quite a cast. Scrooge is voiced by Dragaunus from Mighty Ducks: The Series, Debit is voiced by Hector from The Sylvester & Tweety Mysteries, Marley is voiced by J. Jonah Jameson from Spider-Man (1994), the Ghost of Christmas Past is voiced by Phil from Rugrats, the Ghost of Christmas Present is voiced by Shenzi from The Lion King, and Belle is voiced by Ariel from The Little Mermaid.
Paige o Hara
No, that Belle is from Beauty and the Beast. I was referring to Belle in this movie.

The ending even as a cartoon was emotional too
Speaking of which, the ending is different from the book. This film shows Scrooge arranging for his nephew Fred to appear at Bob Crachit's house, then he arrives there, pretending to be angry at Bob for being at home on Christmas day, and then changing his attitude with the announcement that he's raising his clerk's salary. He then has a boy bring in a bag full of toys for the Crachit children, and invites a man to come in to play a song on his violin so they can have a Christmas party (the song happens to be the same tune played at Mr. Fezziwig's office party in the flashback sequence shown to Scrooge by the Ghost of Christmas Past, which makes me wonder if it's the same musician in both scenes).
In the book, on the other hand, Scrooge dines at Fred's home on Christmas day. The next morning, he goes back to his office, expecting to see Bob Crachit at work (Bob had promised his boss that he would come an hour earlier than usual to make up for the work he didn't do on Christmas day), but Bob isn't there yet. When Bob comes in late, Scrooge puts on his angry act, then suddenly turns kindly, promising to raise his clerk's salary and do everything he can to help Bob and his family, especially Tiny Tim.
I found this film on CZcams last year, I believe, but I had trouble understanding it because it sounded like there were voices in the background over the action, as if there were people having conversations while they were recording the movie.
@@michaelpalmieri7335 which of all the film versions of A Christmas Carol is your favourite? Mine is the one with George C. Scott as Scrooge. Despite the fact that he was American, his English accent was mostly excellent, although there were a couple of times where he automatically rolled his R.
@@Goodbyeeveryonehere
That's difficult to say, considering all the different takes on the story. However, I think the best version of "A Christmas Carol" was the one from 1951, with Alistair Sim as Scrooge. The reason I say it's the best is because it delves into what exactly made Scrooge the mean and bitter old man he became. When he was a young man, he enjoyed Christmas as much as anyone else, but he suffered a few tragedies that just happened to occur at Christmastime (being left alone at school, his girlfriend, Belle, breaking off their engagement, his sister, Fan, dying, etc).
It is also revealed that Scrooge's father was unkind to him because his mother died while giving birth to him. Thus, Scrooge Sr. blamed his own son for his wife's death. Although he resented his father for his harsh treatment of him, he basically acted in the same way as his father after his sister, Fan, died while giving birth to her son, Fred, Scrooge's nephew. Scrooge was always mean to Fred because he blamed him for the death of his sister, whom he felt was the only person who ever truly loved him. You'll notice that in the scene showing Fan on her deathbed, she cries out to her brother to take care of her newborn son (her brother's nephew), but Scrooge was unaware of this because he left the room before he could hear Fan's dying words.
So, one could speculate that the 1951 "A Christmas Carol" tried to give a psychological evaluation of the old miser, suggesting that when Scrooge voices his hatred of people saying "Merry Christmas," he's simply lashing out at all the Christmases that weren't so "merry" to him.
It also suggests that Scrooge isn't really bad, just misguided, which makes it easier for people to forgive him for his past callousness.
It was my test that is the reason I am watching this
Merry Christmas This is my favorite Christmas movie ❤
Thanks for the nice words!
