When that guard yells out "Dead Man Walking..." - it is such a powerful moment. Incredible film.
This movie is AMAZING. It really touched me. I'm a 30 year old man and I cried so many times during this movie..for the victims, for their parents..for Susan Sarandon and for Sean Penn..this movie is seriously underrated and GREAT. EVERYBODY did AMAZING in this movie..everybody..but especially Sean Penn..that guy is up there with the all time greats such as Pacino, DeNiro, Hoffman, Nicholson, Freeman, etc etc.. Susan Sarandon was also top notch in this movie.

@Aaron Turner - How can you say the movie is - quote *"Seriously underrated"* ? Susan Sarandon won an Oscar for "Best Actress in a Leading Role". There were three other Oscar-nominations: 1) Best Director (Tim Robbins), 2) Best Actor in a Leading Role (Sean Penn) and 3) Best Music, original song (Bruce Springsteen). A movie that has 4 nominations and one win at the Oscars - how can you even consider calling that "underrated"?
Personally I didn´t like the movie that much. Too mainstream. Too "Americanized". Too predictable. It was not a bad movie, but not really that good either. In addition Sharon Stone was *TOTALLY* robbed for an Oscar that year for her STUNNING performance in "Casino".
Tim Robbins was masterful as the Director as well..WOW !!

"Dead Man Walking"(1995) is an excellent crime drama movie! The last part of the movie was very touching!
As a Catholic and a Libertarian, I watched this movie as a teenager and it helped me see the fallen condition of humanity and the work of the church in regards to the dignity of life. The nun was a light in a darkened world. There was also an episode of the Twilight Zone I watched as a teen called "I am the Night- Color Me Black". The evil of the world was causing a physical alteration of Earth causing the Earth to go black over an execution site, Vietnam, and the Berlin Wall among others. We have the power to speak life and bring light to the world.
Pedophile priests made this a dark world for hundreds of thousands of children......many of whom committed suicide.
Just listened to Sister Prejean talk at my college! At 78 she's still got quite a fire in her!

I just watched this movie for the first time tonight. Wow, it was great. So emotional, I was shocked at how worked up I was getting when normally movies don’t have such an effect on me. The acting was amazing but for me Sean Penn was the best, I used to work with max security inmates and he played one flawlessly, it was uncanny how much he reminded me of them. The only part that sucked was that the murders took place on my birthday 😅
And that this movie glorified the killers and hardly mentioned the victims. That sucked big time.

I watched Dead Man walking last night and it was very deep but at the same time good. I am glad that Susan won an Oscar, considering she had lost a few times but I wish that Sean Penn had won an Oscar for his role.
No way. Cage was infinitely better and Penn robbed mickey Rourke which was the best performance I've EVER seen (cage is close). Penn got his victory for mystic river he didn't need to win for this or milk

It is a masterpiece and I think Sean’s best ever performance, one of the most exceptional performances ever by an actor ,I don’t think he ever got the respect he deserved in this role .
I remember asking a co-worker, "Have you seen 'Dead Man Walking'?" He replied, "No, I'm not a big Steven Segal fan." 😆 I thought about it after, "Wow, that actually does sound like the title of a Steven Segal movie."

I was advised once to watch this movie, they said it would help me to form my attitude to death penalty. Finally I watched it - a very amazing movie indeed. But it didn't help me to decide what my attitude to death penalty is. I am full of doubts on the topic as ever..
I watched it almost a decade ago. There was only one take away from this film for me that stays with always, "Taking life is wrong, be it what I did or be it what you are doing".

Watched this movie on 29 August 2020. I enjoyed the movie very much.
Yes a difficult film to watch in the beginning but as the film goes on i feel for Sean's character because at the end HE WANTS FORGIVENESS He has remorse. He regrets what he did. He was only a man. He was scared at the end. I cried with Susan at the end. A friend said she wouldn't forgive him. But I would. He was only human. He regretted it and he wanted forgiveness for what he did
If only actually psychopaths worked this way in real life but they don't. You don't just feel remorse. You either feel it or you don't
