    So it’s been a few days short of 6 months "officially", but these are my thoughts on the Sony A7R V - and I’m not sure what happened to the font on this video. The weird script font was supposed to be times new roman italic, but my computer decided otherwise??

    I bought one about the same time and just spent a month in Europe with it. Took 20/35/55/85 lenses but never carried more than one extra lens as I wandered. Absolutely love this camera! Interesting that the 61 megapixel sensor almost put me off buying it as I feared the file sizes. But that big sensor turns every prime lens into a zoom. Absolutely marvelous.

    Just finished a shoot in Cambodia for a non-profit with mine. Great camera, used it for both stills and video (along with my Sony fx3) and just loved it. Used the Tamron 35-150 2-2.8. Only lens i needed and both pictures and videos were amazing. Worth the extra cost

    I plan to pick one up this fall. I use the FX-6 & FX-3 for my corporate video production. I currently use my A7IV as a hybrid C cam for video and as my primary stills camera. I need two video cameras and I need two stills cameras for my corporate headshots. This will be perfect as my primary and I’ll use the A7IV as my backup stills camera.
    Excellent soft lighting of your scene btw, I like the practical lights and how you backlit with the color in the window behind you.

    Regarding the bit about clearing all your display settings from the screen to see your shot
    There's a setting called image preview I think. You can bind it to a button and it allows you to see your shot with no screen markings at all.

    how is the lowlight photos vs the a7IV? I recently shot an event and the photos came out pretty soft and a lot of out of focus shots. I feel like there is something off with my a7IV because I've been having focus issues in video with it. I set it up like my SIII but it hunts so bad. Im wondering how are the photos on the RV vs the 7IV in low light.

    I don't do video but I am curious as to when exactly having 8k video would be necessary? And how much of an appreciable difference you, with your practiced eye see between that and the next level down?

      @@keith-knittel I'm an impulse buyer... was planning on going pro but priorities changed haha. BUT I've always done stills over videos hoping to do hybrid and now I am actually on that course because of R V's image stabilization is so much better than the R IVs. The custom dials 1,2 and 3 are an absolute game changer too. I'd never thought it would be so helpful to have those and the flip screen is amazing. Will allow me to vlog my trip to Japan this weekend. There are a lot of reviews that say there isn't much more to the R V compared to the R IV but I will have to disagree and say there is so much more and it is definitely worth upgrading if you have the funds to! Can't wait to maximize it the next few weeks in Japan.

    I previously was a Nikon shooter, I bought the A7R5 and the Tamron 20 40 a few weeks ago. So far Im very happy, the big plus for me is the auto iso and auto wb work well. I shoot mainy in medium raw but in crop mode I shoot large raw, this gives me 60mm at 27mp. The rear screen is a real bonus, and the active stabalisation is really useful.
    So far Im only shooting in the default profiles, but Im very happy with the colours, I process through Capture One and find grading the images simple. Video is fine for my needs, Ive even done some catalyst browse clips that worked out looking like id used a gimbal

      I ended up selling my A1 after it kept getting left behind all the new, cheaper cameras, Sony was endlessly releasing. I have the FX-6 and FX-3 for my corporate video workflow. Currently the A7IV is my C cam/Photography camera. If I invest in an A7RV it will be specifically for photography as that’s what it’s primarily designed for. My other gear is specifically designed for video. I would not use this for video with my other options, especially for 8K it’s not necessary for my workflow and 8K won’t be 8K when I upload it to CZcams for my clients. It’s nice to have 8K but I don’t see it as necessary or relevant for my workflow.

    There is one brilliant feature in the Sony bodies: Aperture Priority, Auto ISO Min Shutter Speed. Currently (a9x, a7x) I'm able to modify the value in 3 steps: press the custom button, select the proper value, press ok.
    Question is: do you happen to know if it is possible to assign this menu option directly to the dial (front or back) ?

      This camera isnt _bad_ in low light, but compared to other Sony cameras, this one isn't the greatest in low light. Not a fault of the camera though - generally when there is a sensor with more pixels (like the A7R V), it will be not as great in low light as a camera with a smaller sensor (like the A7SIII, FX3). Not to say that this camera isn't capable of shooting in lower lighting scenarios, but you'll get the best results with proper lighting. I should do a comparison video of the A7R V and A7S III in low light to better illustrate this. Would that be a video you're interested in?

    • @keith-knittel
      @keith-knittel  Před rokem +1

      Hey Juan, thanks for the kind words! If you're going to be shooting a lot of 4k 60 raw video, you'll want to go with the Ninja V+ (I have the Ninja V, and can't shoot 4k 60.. you'll need the Ninja V+ to do that) so I can't comment on the 4k 60 recording. The highest resolution/frame rate I'm able to record with my Ninja V is 4k 30p. No idea why! Thats a question for Sony/Atomos - they would have more info on that for you

      Whenever I would film 4k60, mine would over heat. And would overheat on 4k30 if I was filming for more than an hour/hour and a half - temperature outside was around 75-80 in the shade, mine was on the high setting too 🤷‍♂️

    • @TheThaiLife

      That's so interesting, that must have been frustrating and I wonder why. You probably had the latest firmware, but that's all I can think of. Before I found the settings to tweak, I would power the camera with a power bank and have the CF door open and that resolved the problem too. I just throw that out there in case you have a crazy situation with your new camera as that may help with that one also. Well regardless, I'd trade for the Sony A7RV any day for the smarter focusing features, so no matter what you are in a better place. Actually using a dummy battery massively improves overheating. Even a battery grip helps as it shifts the batter heat away from the main body. Something to think about when shooting in 8K for a very long period. I would opt for USB-C charger instead and that also seems to take away most of the heat out of the body as well according to some tests on the new ZV-E1. I still think I would get the A1 with my a7SIII, but praying to God that A1 II is coming soon.

    • @keith-knittel
      @keith-knittel  Před rokem +2

      I'll have to rerun the test with a dummy battery in! I tend to not use dummy batteries as much anymore, given the option to power the camera with a battery in the camera in case the cable gets disconnected - but if it will extend the recording time in a significant way, I might give it a shot!
