Me too. The life of a personal injury paralegal leaves quite a bit to be desired.
Facts
I think it would be interesting if the protagonist in a “rules” story had previously heard creepypastas about this, followed all the rules without question, and yet the story still manages to subvert expectations.
I’m writing one in my free time about someone who has listened to all these creepy pastas who gets sucked into their favorite story. They know how the story will end of course, but they have to be careful not to alter anything / be seen by any of the main characters of the creepy pasta they’re in. They also have to help the main characters in subtle but important ways to help them progress / survive their own story until it ends while staying alive themselves in their new “world”. Ie. creating an identify, tracking down the characters, finding places to sleep, dodging any abnormalities etc.

@@brianmakesabeat be careful I heard one last year where a guy needed work so he answered an add for rulepasta writers got hired on the spot and made a brutal rules pasta then the next day he found out his jobs headquarters was some old abandoned place he got trapped in turns out the place he was at and all the hellish things happening to him was the rules pasta he made come to life so he knew the rules and what would happen to him and how terrifying all the monsters were at the end you find out that he was hired by a demon because apparently he'll is lazy so they get humans to use their superior imagination to come up with hells through their pastas but the authors have to live through them to make sure they are worthy of hell so the protagonist literally has to write pastas for the rest of his life and have to survive each one and his pastas will become someone's hell in hell
There's one thing I've learned from all these "spending the first night alone in a new job with a strange set of rules" stories its that if you find a weird note or rule book, follow them to the tee, don't pass go, don't collect 200 dollars.

A spokesman for the police commented that the suspect admitted to "breaking the rules"

I love the 'Rules' genre of creepypastas. They all sound the same but each rules affects the story and gives a different outcome. Therefore, each story is unique. Anyway, great video Mr Creeps. :D

Rulepastas are easy way out for writers.
I'm kinda over them you pretty much have to make the protagonist stupid and arrogant to make the story work

Like maybe the place is only just starting to get the spooky stuff and he has to make the list. Probably loses some coworkers in the process. There was one story I can't remember the name where it was a rules story it ended up being a training exercise to offer a job to those who survived. The org who set it up did make attempt to curtail the more lethal monsters but there still was a chance for the security guy to die if he was being too stupid lol. The security dude at the end was very much WTF is going on when they did the big reveal at the end.

This is like the 80th fire tower story and I want to complain but I'm gonna watch it anyway and like it.
I’m fairly sure that I have heard this one, but there are so many great park ranger rules stories it’s hard to tell for sure. No matter, it was just as good this time as the first! 👍
This one is new but super similar to another rules story with a fire watch in the woods.
I think I know the other one that ur talking about. But the other ranger at the other ranger station was a woman

I loved this story because of its isolation of the job as well as the simplicity of the rules. They were very simple and easy to understand. I hate when a rules story has like 10+ rules and each one is like 5 sentences and ends with “If broken, refer to rule X” because it’s so hard to keep up with them and you can so easily forget any of them that it’s no wonder why the mc breaks all of them. But in this case, I loved how he was very tired from moving in and hiking there then he had passed out for several hours which is a very human thing to do. And yes, if that didn’t happen, then the rest of his night would not have been as terrible as it was. But again, the other rules were “If animals at the bottom are trying to break in, then shoot up a flare.” And not something like “If you see animals try to break in, and there is less then 10, then make as much noise as you can and shoot up a flare. But, if there are less then 10 and more then half are herbivores then set a potted plant on fire then throw it at them while reciting Shakespeare in German” or something like that. Again, I love this story and my only real complaint would be how the police just kinda left him go despite very incriminating circumstances.

I love rule stories but after a while they get repetitive.
1- Guy get a new house/job
2- he find a list or get told some rules
3- ignores them or breaks them unintentionally
4- someone dies and the main character runs away or is killed.
Some of them break the troop as the MC takes the rules seriously and is instead sees the horror of what could happen to him I like them more the MC feels less like a incompetent child in them.

This story is a plagiarism. It’s just the first act, of a 2 hour story that I listened to a couple of years ago.
But in the original, no other ranger came to try to rescue him. And the story didn’t end after the first night. It started getting good after the first night, as he slowly discovers what’s really going on.
