You need to get a copy of the FMSCA book. Pretty sure you are required to have it in your truck while running interstate commerce no matter what.
I have learned a lot from your mistakes and also cringed at some of your mistakes (tire chains). Thanks a million though for your insights. I have been watching and learning from your mistakes and successes. I have started out in this business slowly and methodically and your videos have help considerably. Keep up the great content and maybe I’ll see if when you’re west of the continental divide.
Thank you for the information I’m just starting my hot shot business myself so little information like this helps
Keep on rollin
Thank you for all the free info.
Thank you for the information. I have been seriously considering becoming a hotshot driver. This video will help many like me!
Keep up the growth and great work!
Thanks Catdeere Ill try my best. im sure you can see from the look of me its not the easiest job but im not quitting any time soon. I appreciate your support. That helps a lot.
I’ve been watching you for a while. I live in South Pittsburg Tennessee. Today I visited my mom in Marion Illinois and just happened to see your baby lion sign on Main Street. I actually turned around to get a picture
haha hell ya Victor. Yup we just tore down the house that was there last month and plan on one day building on that lot like a rental property or something but I put that sign up to see if I could get any local business and not one call except from homeless people asking if I transport people lol. So the Sign was a loss with now return on that investment but it make me happy that you took the time to comment and tell me that story! Thanks for the Good Vibes Victor.
Thank you for documenting your journey...Following your videos and hope to schedule I time to talk with you. I bought my truck 2022 Ram 4500 and also a new Big Tex 25GN. I'm feeling overwhelmed cause I know the bills are'a comin'. Feel like I'm walking in a jungle not knowing proper Tie down best practices for random loads, DOT Regulations of what I need to not get fined...just overwhelmed. BUT...I know something about IFTA...Turns out...I NEED THAT TOO : ) Thanks for your dedication.
Can't wait for your new numbers with your new setup!
yes get your ifta stickers and then copy and have cab card in your binder as well the weigh stations will check those Wyoming port pulled me in and checked my cab card and weight. It took almost a week for my stuff to come to me. so get on it.
I love this videos
Whats up my friend thats anotherone for the book of success in this industry, yeah we make a good money but there is so much responsibility that comes along got to be on top of your game so everything runs smoothly and after getting ur ifta check the states that you need to get permits to go thru they are cheap online but if u get stop by dot you will see the difference, bottom line to make money you have to spend money and be on top of your game is like a give and take bro stay safe and move on bro next GA-AL / AL-PA🤑😎😎🇵🇷👍👍
Stay safe out there bro👍
Missing a HUGE part of IFTA. Quarterly filings. Better be keeping track of fuel purchases and mileage per state.
Helpful info 👍🏾
IFTA aka International Fuel Tax Agreement. This is sick bro they charging small business for everything appreciate the vid bro keep up the good work
This is why you should learn the ropes as cdl driver, instead of just getting a cdl and directly hot shooting.
Saw you on I-74 today between Bloomington and indy
Just a FYI, get the ifta option on your eld to report your ifta miles
Man I got Inspected like twice a month. Went 6 months without a ticket then got hit with a window tint citation in Iowa. I argued with passing previous inspections was told nothing bout tint but to no avail. I'm legal in my home state of tx but is different federally in commercial driving. 120 buck citation and peeled a 340 buck tint job off. Tough hotshot world! Helpful vid btw. Good to know when I go cdl
Mother Trucker! For window Tint?! That is so annoying because if they actually understood what's its like out there driving all day.. you need tint. the sun is brutal and especially in Texas! but yes get your CDL and get out here. CDL is the only ones that will survive long term. trust me I didn't want to get it but boy am I thankful I did. Good Luck Julio!!
...and [this] and other "regulations" form unelected officials is how most people get pushed out of making a living. It has nothing to do people not wanting to work and everything to do with having to work against the state at almost every turn. These are nothing more than government schemes to make money. Unencumbered travel is a myth. You now have to spend the majority of your resources appeasing the government versus conducting your busines..
Sorry to hear sir,
Make sure to get a KYU # if you travel trough Kentucky. Few other states like Oregon, New Mexico, New York require special permits. But yea IFTA is something you should have known about long before you started this business. Stay safe. At least your sharing your mistakes and saving others.
I run none cdl for over 3 years i drive all over so im apportioned and yes my bookkeeper hooked me up with ifta from the start but I'm only registered at 26k so I don't need it probably but the dot always ask me for it when inspected so I guess I do need it keep it up man nice setup
What state are you from ? I’m trying to do this in CA and they don’t let me I am still running non cdl with regular registration
My man i LOVE your channel, but you've been running this whole time without IFTA?? lol your a beast.... you need HUT if you come up into the north east as well, ORCA can set you up with that if you ever come through NY CT
As others said, anything over 26000# need ifta stickers. Also don't forget to do your quarterly reports. !
I got pulled over for an inspection with my old company. I didnt have the apportionment license plate which automatically made me over weight even thou i was under my Gvwr and my hazmat was not in proper order.
He also tried to say one of my totes was leaking but never found any liquid underneath them at all. I fought that one really hard because he wanted to out thay down. Luckly none of it hit my license and i wa good. He went through the truck with a fine tooth comb, he checked everything and the trailer and the truck were good. Just that damn apportionment license plate screwed me.
Part of trucking you have to know these things if you want to play with the big boys
Now you need to keep track of your mileage per use in each state for fuel tax purposes.
If you have you own authority you must jl do that ifta thing. If you didn't know that you must have set it up yourself. If someone set this authority up for you they didn't do their job. Btw this is Curt the guy who got videod at Jung Depot about the chain instead of strap hold downs
Hi bro. Thanks for your content, I want to enter this hot shop industry, but I don't have much information. Could this be a good time to enter? Blessings
Did you by chance ask the DOT Inspector where we can get a copy of that statute binder?
I could swear you stated you followed Tow Piglet and was a big reason you got in to Hot Shotting. His videos covers all these issues so I would have thought you would have known to do all that.
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Brooo!!! Just passed you on 57 in central Illinois! South of Mattoon.
Yup you got me. We’re you heading south or north. What direction was I going compared to you.
@@Babylionhotshot we were both heading north, then out of no where boom you were way past me. I was in a 26ft straight truck.
I told you about getting IFTA a long time ago bro….
you have to file IFTA paperwork as well
How big of a ticket was it that you haven’t posted in this long
Sorry you had to deal with that, but thanks for sharing the lesson. You dispatch yourself, correct?
I say it again...HOW ARE YOU STILL IN BUSINESS FELLA. That is common trucking knowledge. Any CDL driver knows this 😮
When you gross 60K in 2 months and get a $400 ticket its not that bad I just have to get the IFTA. But coming from a non CDL I drove around for a year and want bothered.... the DOT officer explained why and now I know. eventually ill run out of things to F up on and im looking forward for that day.
@@Babylionhotshotit’s more than the cost you lose in dollars. It’s about protecting the company/authority. These things affect business when it comes to Insurance, working with brokers & more. Keep learning but do the research first to avoid future things that could affect you in the long run.
Ya I’m hoping it doesn’t affect my insurance which is already really high. 2100 a month. The officer said it’s not a moving violation and won’t go on my license so that was at lease good news. ELD, registration, BOL, license ect… was all good but I always get a little worried during inspections. I’m going to tighten up for-sure thanks Macc
@@Babylionhotshot It’s all a learning curve bro and we all make mistakes. I’ve made plenty on this journey lol. And yeah insurance is getting crazy. Respect for showing the mistakes so others can learn from it. Keep going bro you been on it 💯
You mean to tell me you have apportioned plates and don't know about IFTA?? WTF???
Only cdl driver. I drive for a moving companyan my truck is plated for 26,000lbs an I go to Omaha alot an they never say I have to have a dot sticker on
Ouch!!
For as long as you've been doing this i thought you would've known about ifta.
Hey bro just wondering about to start a new channel wondering how i can make an entrance video with the quality of yours
Thats what happens.
IFTA is mandatory for CDL Drivers.
Could you include all the ins and outs of what is checked during a DOT inspection. I’ve not had one yet and want to be prepared.
I have been thinking about that. I was thinking about going to my local weigh station and asking an officer to do a mock inspection on my truck and trailer and driver. or a real one.
but to answer your question yes ill put it on my list of important videos
@@BabylionhotshotI look forward to it sir. Thanks for sharing your experience. I am 3 months into the business and loving the process/challenges and victories
How did you not know that
My ifta and prorate in the great state of Washington was $600. I'm rated at 40k for my combo, in a 3500 ram and 40ft HS. My quarterly taxes are like $40-60. I can't believe you didn't have IFTA bro. Live and learn I guess.
Need it too
lol I think its a fear thing. Like I kinda knew I needed the IFTA but it really wasn't a priority. But now its time.
@@Babylionhotshot I'm going to have to get it. I'm gonna research it now.
What did you get put out of service for prior to this?
How many quarters do have to go back and file your IFTA reports?
that happened to us
Make Lions Roar
That sucks man, the laws won’t allow people to make a living
FYI Oregon is a non IFTA state.
Now you know why DOT is so hard on hotshots because they just slap a name on their truck and hit the road and never check rules or regulations to be legal.
Now your insurance premium will go up.
hey brother. im thinking of going for it and make my hot shot business, but as a side hustle. i work a traveling job, but dont work the whole year around. im thinking of starting it up and have it ready when im not working. maybe even do it full time later down the road. what are your thoughts?
I thought about doing the same thing but for me it would be hot shots local or surrounding states only fri-Sunday . But insurance for the business alone is 1000+ so that on top of truck and trailer payment would be around 2grand maybe more. So I don’t think I’ll be able to do my own thing.
Hey what's up could you please tell us how much are the Appointed plates cost also I was told you couldn't receive appointed plates without an IFTA account
Appointed plates vary by state call your local dmv. You can get them without IFTA bc it's just a fuel tax but you shouldn't get them if your non cdl. Waste of money
My truck plate was about $1K and my trailer plates that were permanent were about $19. I was given a paper at the apportion plate office and forgot to set up an IFTA Registration. I guess now its time to get that done. Im assuming the second ticket will be much more expensive. I live in Illinois so those plate prices are Illinois numbers. IDK if they are the same price in all states.
It will cost more than that I think you have to get a 2290
There's literally no need to figure out who needs one and who doesn't Just buy the freaking sticker it's cheap just buy it...
Its called stupid tax! I've paid lots of it!!
What class CDL would I need to start hotshotting in California?
Ca sucks I live here and I’m having issues with registration to change my combination weight so I work all over the east coast to much bs and regulations there
Intrastate doesn’t need IFTA
Looks like your nearest IRP office failed you. That information should have been known
Wow!!! Soooooo nobody told you about IFTA… keep it simple anything over 26k
Well to be honest I knew I needed to get them but I didn't really know what it was or if it was that important but know that I got a ticket it is higher on the priority list 😬
What a fing scam.
Sucks man. Sorry you got the business from the man on this
I would learn the trucking business instead of trying to make your channel grow. You are over your head if you thought you could just drive from state to state and not pay fuel tax.
Hey bud. I’m a neighbor of yours out of DeSoto Illinois. We need to get in contact. You need more info and I’d be happy to help. Owned my own company for 16 years.
😂😂😂I lost 22k on Voyager crypto exchange. Fuc!k Gary Gensler at the SEC
Non cdl don’t need ifta
I’m sorry that happened to you man. We all really do appreciate your content and the information you provide. I’m still working on getting going!
Thanks Man! ya not something I want to tell people but I am just like everyone else when it comes down to it. just trying to lear all the rules and regulations as I go. Thanks Again and good luck with you progress getting out there! its tough right now I would just recommend only getting in right now if you have your CDL.
@@Babylionhotshot yeah working a contract atm, then plan to go take a cdl class. But after that I’ll have to evaluate if it’s more beneficial to continue doing contract flight/ground medic or to hot shot.
@theobeast either get a semi or stick with flight nurse.
