  • This yoga board talks about one of the main components of western yoga practice: Asana or postures. We will talk about asana and preparation for meditation, asana and body image and the range of difficulty that can go into an asana practice. www.LauraGyoga.com

    YOGA FOCUS is about learning the foundations of yoga. Each week we have a different focus that I write on the “Yoga Board” (the large white board that you will see in these videos). The weekly topics build on each other so that you get a real understanding of what the COMPLETE practice of yoga consists of- not just practicing postures (asana).
    The yoga practices that we do are gentle, slow flows with a therapeutic focus.
    We will also talk about ways to take your yoga practice off of your mat to fully embrace the yoga lifestyle!
    Practice Yoga = Change your Life!!

    Thank you very much to share this very important information. Good work. When I teach Yoga, I put an important emphasis on the 8 Limbs. Yoga is more than Asana. Humans are spiritual beings on a human journey. My old mentor told me. '' Yoga is more than Asana and buns of steel. Yogas chitta vritti nirodha ''

      That is how i got started with my study of the 8 limbs- watching videos, taking notes and gathering information 😄 looks like we have a tendency toward approaching new ideas from an intellectual perspective & there is no end to the things you can study and learn - i really enjoy that 🤓

    Thank u so much. I am learning with u A LOT. I like the way u explain the knowledge of YOGA.
    I am ALWAYS in the PRESENT MOMENT with my practices & always inside of my body (nmuscles+bones+sensations+joints+ligaments) & mind #CLEAN + what is happening outside of my own PERCEPTIVE OF ONEnNESS & so, basically, I am an ASANA all the time no matter what yoga practice or yogi I practice with

    Laura, I started Yoga as stretching exercise. But as I study Yoga deeper, it means so much more than stretching or exercise. And I am already higher mobile in overall my body. As I practice more and more, my joints start to pain and i get injured again and again. As i get aged, my doctor is recommending me for simple strength workout instead of advanced asana. I understand it but my ego have a hard time to accept it.
    There is some benefits for me such as sattvic energy and I get to focus better. I feel happy during the practice but my body will not be happy for long term. I am afraid to get hip replacement and all of extreme bendy poses. Why yoga poses are so extreme and not so practical or functional? When I look around and listen to my friends, mostly are doing asana with ego boosting mind and none are interested in sutra or other practice of real Yoga.

    • @LauraGYoga
      @LauraGYoga  Před 4 lety +1

      this is such a common experience, but It makes me happy to hear that your doctor is wise and advising you to take care of your body. There is a strong movement in the yoga world coming from those that understand the body and modern movement science to update the way we practice asana. Instead of going after excessive ranges of motion that could cause harm it is more about creating awareness, connection and creating a deep bond with your own body. I follow many teachers like Trina Altman, Yoga Detour, Jenni Rawlings, and Kathrine Bruni young that are making changes in the way we teach and practice yoga. But it all always comes back to the yamas and niyamas- when we forget them our asana practice can end up feeding the ego and causing injury just like anything else. I am currently taking a break from teaching my public classes so I can spend more time studying anatomy and yoga philosophy because I felt like that was where my attention was needed, not in teaching another asana class.

    • @mymiseon
      @mymiseon Před 4 lety

      Laura Goellner I am at 200hr YTT now. That’s how I get into your channel. Anatomy study gave me a chance to look into my body and finding my patterns of postures. However, Sutra gave me a chance to look into my pattern of thoughts. Fascinating.
      The work is left on me how to weave together. An exercise itself and not philosophy itself. There must be a way to make a PRACTICE as one whether on the mat or off the mat.
      If you have a chance, would you make a video on this subject? “How to practice YOGA with your life?” (You know that I am not talking about Asana or rituals...😉)

    I also feel like Hatha yoga is too much emphasize of the perfect pose while Kundalini is more focused on true yoga purpose "yoga. Is stilling your mind modification"

    • @LauraGYoga
      @LauraGYoga  Před 4 lety +1

      this is one of the reasons I really like Kundalini practice so much- it creates space in the mind. often in a vinyasa practice people are so focused on alignment and what the body looks like it just replaces the daily chatter in the mind with "yoga chatter" instead of real clarity.

    • @mymiseon
      @mymiseon Před 4 lety

      Laura Goellner “yoga chatter”,,, that was I was experiencing, especially YTT. Ever since I started YTT, my yoga chatter is loud than ever. 😅

    • @mymiseon

      What she is saying is very skillfully arranged. Nothing too much or unnecessary. Even some example or details are all there for a reason. There are many misunderstand something with the piece of info or short summery. The subject is nothing so difficult to understand but it is something to think about. Why does Yoga include Asana and How am I practice Asana?
