Leon Russel was brilliant. His piano style was somewhere between blues, rock n roll and roller derby.

    Lyrics:
    What’s the matter with me
I don’t have much to say
    Daylight sneakin’ through the window
And I’m still in this all-night café
Walkin’ to and fro beneath the moon
Out to where the trucks are rollin’ slow
To sit down on this bank of sand
    And watch the river flow
Wish I was back in the city
Instead of this old bank of sand
With the sun beating down over the chimney tops
And the one I love so close at hand
If I had wings and I could fly
I know where I would go
But right now I’ll just sit here so contentedly
    And watch the river flow
People disagreeing on all just about everything, yeah
Makes you stop and all wonder why
Why only yesterday I saw somebody on the street
Who just couldn’t help but cry
Oh, this ol’ river keeps on rollin’, though
No matter what gets in the way and which way the wind does blow
And as long as it does I’ll just sit here
    And watch the river flow
    People disagreeing everywhere you look
Makes you wanna stop and read a book
Why only yesterday I saw somebody on the street
    That was really shook
But this ol’ river keeps on rollin’, though
No matter what gets in the way and which way the wind does blow
And as long as it does I’ll just sit here
    And watch the river flow
    Watch the river flow
    Watchin’ the river flow
    Watchin’ the river flow
But I’ll sit down on this bank of sand
    And watch the river flow

Down In The Flood, I Shall Be Released, Tomorrow Is A Long Time, The Mighty Quinn, You Ain't Goin' Nowhere, When I paint My Masterpiece, and this track!!?? Very glad the standoff has ended, and the missing tracks are mostly back again. They just put the John Wesley Harding album back up & the missing "Temporary Like Achilles" as well. I understand Dylan's importance in music, but he's never been on my radar like the Beatles (I know, I know, George loved him and he was a Wilbury...), Eric, Stones, Zep, Tom & the Heartbreakers (yes, Tom loved him, too), etc. However, I have always loved this song. It rocks, it rolls, it sways, and it floats. And that band...Leon Russell, Jesse Ed Davis, Domino, Carl Radle, Beatle Lieutenant, the solid, brilliant Jim Keltner. A great rock & roll classic.

after over 5 years of looking for this on youtube someone finally had the nerve to upload it. you find live versions all over the place but couldn't find the studio version so THANKS to this channel! is there an album version of this song?
i have this song on THIS album and on CD. now i can finally add it to my online collection. i have a collection of EXCELLENT music that goes back over century. actually a couple of hundred years if you count the classical compositions. i have THE BEST collection of THE BEST music online! mainly, only upbeat, popular, rare and exciting music is in my collection. NO BS! one rap song, one disco song, NO boy band crap, no j-pop or k-pop crap, and otherwise PURE and REAL music fearturing the best song writers and musicians ever to be recorded and categorized by decade and genre.
i love HISTORY and i was first introduced to history THROUGH MUSIC! good music is good music regardless of when it was written or recorded. too bad most of today's music is so unworthy of serious contemplation or inclusion. but there are some but you really gotta look for 'em. i'm happy to share my collection with ANYONE who loves REALLY GOOD music!

@@RaxOldies ... yep, i know. it was one of the best songs on that double album. in fact i bought that double album just for that ONE song.
i'm glad its now, finally, available on youtube. its completed my dylan collection. i know have over 700 songs, and albums, in my digital music collection thanks to youtube. the free music available on youtube is just about its only redeeming value. so, THANKS youtube. you're at least doing one thing right!

Never heard that version, I only know the version from Shadow Kingdom this one is more in blues tradition.. in a mood of boredom and lost time stuck inside and can´t move

"Watching the River Flow", a blues rock song by American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan. Produced by Leon Russell, it was written and recorded during a session in March 1971 at the Blue Rock Studio in NYC, and released (as a single) on 3 June, 1971 on the Columbia label. czcams.com/video/_xRlojtDdEs/video.html
    Lyrics (in full):
    What’s the matter with me
I don’t have much to say
    Daylight sneakin’ through the window
And I’m still in this all-night café
Walkin’ to and fro beneath the moon
Out to where the trucks are rollin’ slow
To sit down on this bank of sand
    And watch the river flow
Wish I was back in the city
Instead of this old bank of sand
With the sun beating down over the chimney tops
And the one I love so close at hand
If I had wings and I could fly
I know where I would go
But right now I’ll just sit here so contentedly
    And watch the river flow
People disagreeing on all just about everything, yeah
Makes you stop and all wonder why
Why only yesterday I saw somebody on the street
Who just couldn’t help but cry
Oh, this ol’ river keeps on rollin’, though
No matter what gets in the way and which way the wind does blow
And as long as it does I’ll just sit here
    And watch the river flow
    People disagreeing everywhere you look
Makes you wanna stop and read a book
Why only yesterday I saw somebody on the street
    That was really shook
But this ol’ river keeps on rollin’, though
No matter what gets in the way and which way the wind does blow
And as long as it does I’ll just sit here
    And watch the river flow
    Watch the river flow
    Watchin’ the river flow
    Watchin’ the river flow
But I’ll sit down on this bank of sand
    And watch the river flow
    Songwriter: Bob Dylan
Personnel: Bob Dylan (vocal), Leon Russell (acoustic piano, production), Jesse Ed Davis (electric guitar), Carl Radle (called Charlie Radle on the session notes - electric bass), Jim Keltner (drums).

Thank-you so much for this information. I always wondered if this was recorded before or after the Concert for Bangladesh (August 1971). Now I know. It's no wonder that Leon plays (bass guitar) on the Bob Dylan set on the Concert for Bangladesh. I'm sure now that Leon's presence contributed to Bob's decision to perform live that day. By the way, the other musicians (Jim Keltner, Jesse Ed Davis, and Carl Radle) from the March sessions were also on stage (if needed).
