- In this video I show you how to use a digital multimeter. This is a basic tutorial on the different functions and how to use them. A multimeter is something that most everyone should have some knowledge on how to operate.
The most common use is testing ac voltage in your home. Another handy feature is the dc voltage setting for your automobiles and batteries. Testing resistance is another very common use for a digital multimeter.

Bill Newberry . Just finished watching all your vids, I think. Totally EXCELLENT! Wish I'd had access to the net and your vids yrs ago, I would not have gone through two washing machines, 2 fridge freezers, one only after, the yr long guarantee had only just expired, stuffing tesco! worst of all my old little freezer which when it stopped working, I was heart broken, more than when the mother in law passed!!!
From far my favorite tutorial! Straight forward , easy and efficient demonstration! I use to own one ( his little brother without the dc amps feature ) My next one will be like this one .
I've had this meter for about 6 years now and it was the best bang for the buck when I got it. I needed a dc amp function and a Fluke meter with dc amps was $100 more at the time. One of my only issues with this meter was that it appears to zero itself every time you take a measurement. It's a 3 to 4 second process that really slows you down when doing multiple tests. The meter in the video takes measurements instantaneously. None the less, I'm going to purchase another 2237-20 to replace mine. It's still working but after extensive field use, the lead terminals are giving me trouble. Last night I discovered the brass tubes were broken away from the circuit board. That's 6 years of rough jobs site abuse. Rain, snow, wind, etc. I think it held up exceedingly well. A Milwaukee rep. told me it was designed by Fluke so I decided to give it a shot.

Great video, one thing to note, when discharging the capacitor, make sure the tool you use is to cross the terminals is Insulated.

You had me at capacitance!
I have a window ac model number LW1510ER 15,000 BTU and I plugged it in and press the power button and no power at all. Outlet is working, green light is on on the plug and the fuse in the AC is okay. When I stored it last year it powered up perfectly.

My go to meter for years was my Fluke 116 and still love it, it's true RMS and lightning fast response, but lacks the clamp function.
I've recently switched over to only carrying a diagnostics bag in with me on my initial trip in so carry my Southwire cheapy clamp meter from Lowes. It does about everything you want including capacitance, but I triple check my meter readings because it gives false negatives if the leads aren't left in just the right spot.
+Bill Newberry Great Job here!!! Me favorite meter at present is the Fieldpiece Multimeter. Has a K type slot so you can also use a temperature clamp. Great for air conditioning electrical testing, as well as measuring superheat and subcool. Nice Vid!!! ~ Hi Ya!!!!!
My go to meter is this exact meter..Milwaukee 2237-20. It has never let me down until this week when the lead terminals let go from the circuit board. 6 years of abuse IMO. Rain, snow, wind, dust, etc. It has performed exceedingly well for the money. It's $100 less expensive than the comparable Fluke 325 but most of my colleagues don't like it because it's not yellow. The Milwaukee rep told me it was engineered by Fluke for Milwaukee and it had a 5 year warranty so I thought I'd give it a shot. I'll be purchasing another 2237-20 this week.

This multimeter seems to operate a lot smoother than my Meterk but then again I guess you get what you pay for.
