I feel blessed to have been able to grow up in Ocean Beach in the 70s and 80s. Just not the same. OB is OK!

PB, La Jolla, Solana Beach.....my old stompin' grounds. I miss the beaches & killer Mexican food. But my fav Mexican food was in Old Town.
Edit : Now that I'm old, what I really miss is the Climate. Best in the Country.

oh my gosh, at 13:24 I see my old workplace that I worked at in 1986/early 87 as a teenager when that video was taken. That Shell Station was on Grande & Mission Blvd, across the street was a Jack-In-The-Box, which is hard to see as it is set back a bit, it is now the Taco-Bell.
At that Shell Station I bought my very first car for $600 cash- a 1976 Orange Ford Pinto, and I got my first Police-lights in my rear-view-mirror and my first ticket that very night when I drove it out of the parking lot without a drivers license or insurance, or even knowing how to drive. I had driven a go-cart before so I felt ready. It's amazing to see that image from that time period, It was a magical time in life. I ran-away from home on the east coast and landed in PB in 1985 at 17 and made it my home. To be living on your own as a teen in PB was a dream come true. I wrote my name in fresh cement on Mission Blvd in 1986 near Garnet and it's still there. The Spice Rack at that timestamp is where the Starbucks/Ralphs complex now is. I live in LA now but come down to PB every year, its like coming home. PB is in my soul

I almost drowned at La Jolla beach when i was 6 years old. I'll never forget that experience. My toes were cut from the sharp coral as I was bashed against the reef in a raging wave. Yes
in 1971 they did have lifeguards, just not outside the beach area. I asked my brother to help me. He was the first person ever to panic and runaway instead of helping me.
To this day I will not speak to him. I will spit on his grave.

I graduated from an Ivy League and came out to San Diego in 1989. I was working at UCSD School of Medicine lab in La Jolla when two San Diego Police Homicide detectives came into lab and in front of my co-workers asked me if I was the "Clairemont Unaliver". (even though I was 165lb and just 36% African American. I have had three OTHER blatantly racist incidents in La Jolla and I don't even spend much time there, the last one occurring in 2015. Good news I met my first girlfriend in Imperial Beach my very first day in California. She was from Berlin.
